At Maggie's Place, you'll be in an historic neighborhood near museums, monuments, shopping, waterfront, dining, & 25 minutes from VA's many beaches. The Wisconsin & Chrysler Museum of Art are blocks away. Here it's cozy, cool in summer, private, centrally located, with security monitors in this unique building. The space was renovated last spring & is well equipped with anything a visitor might need. Good for couples, solo adventurers, business travelers, families, & small, well-behaved pets.

The space
Cobblestone streets are a block away in either direction. It is the only white, two story building on the corner of Bute & Dunmore with black shutters & awnings. Diagonally across from the YMCA, it is surrounded by numerous gourmet restaurants. The NOAA boat parks at the end of the street.

Guest access
The entire downstairs apartment is available for use. The same code that unlocks the outside door works for the inside one.
There are benches on 3 sides of the building if you want to step outside to smoke (some folk still do that) or just sit and watch people. Smoking indoors is not permitted.

Other things to note
1) The top thermostat controls air conditioning/heat pump for the ENTIRE building. The bottom thermostat controls boiler-fired steam heat for the ENTIRE building. Please exercise consideration for all building occupants when you make adjustments.
2) In cold times, I encourage you to use the steam heat (bottom thermostat), but please don't turn the heat above 75.
3) The coffee pot is plumbed, so just load the basket, turn the machine on & push the Start button only once. Hot water will begin to flow. Just make sure it's plugged in (we unplug it between guests so it doesn't burn out).

I am Charles. I was once a Russian linguist in the USAF and am now a retired NASA engineer. I operate the Bute St apartment in memory of Maggie, my late wife, who grew up a rancher's daughter, joined the Navy as a cryptologist (that's how I met her), married me, got her degree in English, and started her own writing/printing business. She was always a cowgirl who fixed her own equipment. Besides creating countless resumes, assisting over 30 students with dissertations, designing logos, printing business cards or brochures, and writing business plans for start-up companies, she personally painted the windows and renovated the property on Bute Street several times. Maggie passed away August 4, 2017. Her friends and I plan to continue to operate Maggie's place in her memory.
