Welcome to the Saigon Bay Caribbean Mansion!
We had an amazing stay at Casa Istmito. The accommodations were very comfortable and kid friendly. Our 16 month daughter had a great time playing on the balcony and was safe upstairs with the children's gate. The guest room outside was a perfect little escape for our nanny traveling with us. The house was conveniently located near the beach and a descent bar/brewery plus close to the action in town and well stocked grocery store. Eating breakfast on the table outside was wonderful while watching the sunrise. I highly recommend this house to all travelers, especially those with children. Our host, Jenny, was also very nice and helpful and maintained good communication.
The house is fantastic. Very well set up and comfortable. It's also great if you are traveling with kids. I would definitely recommend staying at Casa Istmito. Communication with the Jennifer and her team was a bit difficult. I had to alter plans a bit and sent a couple of emails with no reply and the phone number given also wasn't working. However, when we got there they seemed aware of everything and there was no problem so not sure what the issue was. Outside of that, the experience was great and the house was great. I would recommend staying here.
The place was relaxing. Better for families. We were a group of four guys, everyone had a bed. Bars are across the street. Over all experience was awesome.
The house is very nicely designed. It is very quiet, on the sea water and very spacious with many small useful details. You can even dock your boat or ask tour operators to pick you up straight from there. Is about 10 mins walk to the downtown.
Bocas is such an experience! Staying in Jenny's properties was no different. We started in John's Place and then moved onto La Casa de Istmito over the sea when our friends arrived. Since this review is for La Casa, I'll stick with details on that location.
The name of the property changed between the time I booked it and the time arrived. As Jenny was out of the country when we were vacationing in Bocas, we had a hard time getting reception to understand where we were to be staying. I'm sure the language barrier contributed, but it took me describing the distinctive Octopus mural shown in the photos to get someone to understand. They called it "Janine's place."
The house itself was very nice. The entrance in the back is deceiving - it's very run down looking. But don't let that discourage you - the house is clean, spacious, and has great features (even a little AC unit in the upstairs bedroom)!
As a whole, I wish the experience moving to this location was a less stressful, but it was a very nice place to stay once we got past that hurdle. So many hammocks and porches! It's a bit of a walk from the main reception so be prepared to haul your luggage/packs down the street a bit. If you are trying to describe to a cab driver or someone else where it is - we found saying "across from Bocas Brewery" to be very, very helpful. Of course, check in with reception when you first arrive!
