Fairly spartan accommodations, but a good value for the money. We got a double room with private bathroom for $50 in San Jose. The neighborhood is OK but not great. The room was clean and had a TV. The private areas are attractively furnished. Three computers are available for patrons' use, as is wi-fi (we brought our own computer). A nice breakfast is included and available from 7 to 10 a.m. The staff is friendly, helpful, and speaks fluent English. Karolina is happy to set up tours and transportation, at better prices than we found on the Internet.
We had a very great stay here! Karla is extremely friendly, open and helpful and same goes for her maid Esperanza, who is always there to asist you with anything and prepares a great breakfast in the morning.
Karla runs a guesthouse right around the corner but the two rooms on AirBnb are actually part of her own house and you can use the family kitchen and living room. We stayed in family room #1, which has two comfortable beds, a big cupboard and nice table + tv. The big bathroom is shared with the 2nd family room. Location is good - near downtown and in a safe area.
Again, can only recommend you stay here!
So amazed at how friendly the staff is here. I really enjoyed my time here and was super impressed at the quality of the rooms. Cleanliness and comfortability are on the top of the staffs lists
It´s a really cosy & friendly atmosphere in this house. My son and me were happy to stay there.
It was such a great time with Karla and we loved the room plus breakfast.
Kaps seems to be a nice place to stay. We got in late, and left early, but Daniel (despite it being his first night working) got us set up, and then spent some time chatting with us about San Jose. The private room was very nice, and comfortable. The hostel was very quiet.
We stayed here just after we arrived to San Jose and we also stayed just before we left Costa Rica. It is a good place to be, good location, nice staff and affordable price. In many ways it reminded me to the hostels in the UK. Our first room was good, the second one would have needed some airing.
Very good experience. We were having dental work on West side of town and had tests (colonoscopy) done at Hotel Catolica. This location was perfect between both, only a short walk downtown, and a Walmart easily walked to. The accomodations were clean and comfortable. The staff was helpful and caring. The breakfast was great. The other guests were fun to talk to and interact with. All in all, we enjoyed our stay and will "su casa" our casa when we stay in Costa Rica again. I would recommend their lodging to my best friends.
Fine place, ideally located if a bit hard to find at first (but the website does its best to facilitate it. We spent five days, had full use of a well equipped kitchen which guests generally leave nicely cleaned up. The hosts speak excellent English and are very helpful. Try not to arrive after 10 p.m., as this is not a hotel with 24-hour staffing. Our room was clean and decently equipped. You are asked not to to put paper into the toilet., and there's a good reason for that. A plumber's friend may be found in the maid's supply room.
For walking downtown (a bus gets complicated, though public transport is great for the cognoscenti) ask to have the very logical street numbering system explained to you, in case it's not clear to you from the map. Do not try to go to Walmart for your groceries, which by the way cost as much or more than in the USA.
