The only thing I didn't like was that we arrived so late in the evening that we missed an opportunity to spend more time with Fran. She was very understanding of a late check-in and it was easy to just slip into her world. You should love animals of all kinds- but, duh, farm. Do NOT skip the farm to table breakfast in the morning (be a risk taker on your choices) and definitely plan on staying through the afternoon to watch her loving and tender care of farm family. This is a perfect getaway for locals having a late day at Greek Peak, but not wanting to pay the $$$ to stay at the ski lodge. <3
Lovely place with lovely people. Stayed here for 2 nights in deep winter. Charming and warm room with a super comfy bed. Access to a private bathroom. The farm itself is beautiful and your heart is immediately won over by the animals (all incredibly affectionate). Fran is a fountain of information about farm life and a great conversationalist. I came here to snowboard at Greek Peak for a day and this was the perfect place to come home to. Would definitely go again!
Absolutely loved Fran and her lovely little farm! I only stayed one night while I was in town for a wedding, but truly enjoyed my time with Fran and her animal companions. Fran made a really delicious breakfast in the morning and then I accompanied her on some chores around the farm- meeting the goats, pigs and horses! this is truly a great escape from the rush of a busy life. I wish I could have stayed longer to enjoy some cross-country skiing or snowshoeing. Winter time in this area is just beautiful for all outdoor enthusiasts. I would definitely go back if life every brings me this way again!
What a great trip. The kids were in love with all of the animals, and the stories that Fran told us about the animals. In two days, they knew all of the personalities of the animals, and looked forward to seeing them morning, noon and night. Room was comfortable, and food was delicious. Thanks for a great experience!
I think I was a very annoying guest. I followed Fran everywhere, constantly asking questions. But there is sooo much to see, to explore, to do! What I first noticed was how Fran is managing her dear animals and in return, how they respect and listen to her - most of them, anyway :-) In addition to that, Fran has so many other things going on plus being a great host and serving breakfast! I've spent 4 very emotional and inspirational days and I genuinely recommend staying here. My personal highlights were MAKING mozzarella cheese and spending some time alone with Fran in Ithaca.
My husband, two daughters and I just returned from a wonderful stay on Fran and Hollis' farm. The second we arrived, we knew it would be a great stay... Both girls (8 and 11) would have spent the whole time with Fran's dog Sam Sam and kitten Sophie, but also adored the goats, Serafina the pig, and of course Benny and the other horses. Fran and Hollis were such kind hosts, and so patient with our girls, who had a million and one questions for them. Fran is a brilliant teacher, and adores her animals; this experience will stay with us all for a long time. Worth mentioning: my husband is allergic to cats and dogs, but the bedrooms were spotless and he never had a bad reaction while we were there. I joined airbnb in order to stay here, and am so glad I did.
Quite an experience. Great room, private bathroom. Great farm, goats, horses, and pig (soon to be more). Fran, Hollis, Joy (didn't meet Ray) all have great personalities and took good care of me. (And Serafina, too). Breakfast was made from farm and local ingredients.
I LOVED staying at Franny's! My daughter stayed w/ me the 1st night and also enjoyed the warm welcome. We awoke to the comforting smell of sizzling bacon and coffee drifting up the stairs to our clean, cozy room! We sadly were kept way too busy moving my student into her dorm! Imagine that! We wd rather have played w/ the animals and swapped stories w/ Fran and Hollis! I agree w/ the positive reviews everyone else has given Fran, but I would like to add that she was so accommodating when we hit a glitch in our arrival time. Wouldn't you know it, our first stop @ Cornell just HAD to be the health center, but Fran was understanding and very helpful. I was so appreciative of her warmth and help! I am looking fwd to staying here on another visit to enjoy her hospitality AND excellent breakfast! She even packed me a sandwich of DE-licious homemade goods when I was unable to have real breakfast! The soap she made and sent me off w/ is a nice remembrance I am still enjoying back here in Illinois!
We greatly enjoyed our time with Fran. The room and bathroom were very nice and felt secluded from the rest of the house. It was wonderful feeling that sense of privacy being 34 weeks pregnant and having to use the bathroom several times a night! Fran was amazing! Our 18 month old tripped and cut his head during our stay and Fran provided us with first aid supplies and toys to help distract him. I would definitely stay here again and recommend this farm to anyone looking for a room in the Cortland area.
I joined AirBnB simply to stay at Franny's! Whatever you read about the real deal is better, from sausage to cheese everything at the farm is the real deal. Everyone at the farm is incredibly kind and down to earth. Even taking the time to answer farming questions and give recommendations for our fresh veggies. The closest thing to a down side is coming home and being disappointed in the lack of variety in my grocery store after out amazing stay at Franny's
