At the end of a quiet gravel road, down a winding dirt driveway, secreted away among the pines and along the cool waters of the Crooked River, you’ll find a house…

This *highly* secluded off-grid eco-retreat is the only development on a 480-acre peninsula of property bordered by the Crooked River, home to landlocked salmon, trout and Southern Maine's drinking water supply. A quiet seasonal getaway for solitude seekers. Available for booking May through November.

The space
The 200-square-foot Crooked River Tiny House is truly at one with nature, nestled on a 3.5 acre piece of land cut from the Western Maine woods, the nearest neighbor is about a mile away. Somewhere in the space between camping and glamping, this unique property is admittedly not for everyone, but those who do come always leave in awe of the peace, coziness and ingenuity that defines their stay.

Please note that there is no electricity or running water anywhere on the property, although we do maintain a small solar setup inside the house. Guests are expected to bring their own water for drinking and cooking, and sheets and pillowcases (we can provide linens for a small additional washing fee). All other water can be gathered from the river, a short hike down a trail from the house.

Other amenities include:
- Sleeping loft with queen-size memory foam bed
- A variety of pillows, comforters and blankets
- Full-size sofa bed on ground floor
- Solar battery for charging devices and powering our single electric light
- Various lanterns, flashlights and headlamps
- Three-burner gas cooktop
- Sink basin (remember, no running water!)
- Cooler (please provide your own ice)
- Woodstove for cold Maine nights (wood is provided)
- Seasonal outdoor hand-pump shower (collect river water to fill)
- "Guesthouse" with additional full-size futon bed, about 50 feet from main house
- Clean, non-smelly outhouse with composting toilet in the guesthouse
- Elevated screen house custom built from reclaimed screen doors
- Chair and table, hammocks and solar light in screen house
- Fire Pit (we provide the wood!)
- Tubes to use on the river and nearby lakes
- Dry goods, oils, spices, dishes, cups and mugs, silverware and cookware
- All the quiet, rest and relaxation you can handle!

Please note that May through September in Maine can be very buggy, with mosquitos and black flies being the main offenders. As we are situated in the middle of the woods, ticks are also a reality. Please bring bug spray (we have some at the house), stay on the paths and trails, and do a tick check when you come in!

Guest access
When you book the Crooked River Tiny House, the entire property is yours and yours alone. We can guarantee total privacy during your stay! We technically have an address, but it cannot be found on Google Maps. A few days before your scheduled arrival, I will send an email with specific directions to the property and everything you need to know and bring for your stay, including information on my favorite local hikes, lakes and hidden swimming holes.

Other things to note
There are games, puzzles, books and magazines tucked into every nook and cranny. A few bird feeders outside the large picture window provide countless hours of Bird TV. That said, in choosing to stay here, you are responsible for yourself and your own quality of experience; if you need to be entertained, this space is probably not for you.

There is a store, Melby's Eatery, two miles away with excellent diner food, sandwiches, homemade pizzas and more. Owners are gay-friendly, and own a small gas station just before the store. There's also a pretty cool bison farm just beyond Melby's that is owned by some great progressive types that we've come to refer to as neighbors. Marta's bakery--next door to that--is the real European deal (and mostly just open in the summer). 76 Pleasant St. in Norway has probably the best Portland-caliber food in all of Western Maine. And Norway Brewing Company is not to be missed for their great craft brews and food – and their amazing outdoor patio in the summer. A little further out in Oxford, you'll find the Oxbow Brewery tasting room, where you can sample their delicious beer and wood-fired pizzas. Pietree Orchard in Sweden, owned by Tabitha King (aka Stephen King's wife) is another great spot for fresh produce, cider donuts and, yes, amazing wood-fired pizzas. Basically, there are things to do and places to explore if getting shacked up makes you antsy, or you just desire to hit up some local flavors. Most people arrive at the house with bigger plans but just end up staying in...
