Rental car is needed. If you read the reviews, 4x4 is highly recommended, especially in the rainy season, but I have a front-wheel drive sedan and I've never had a problem.
Interaction with Guests
I have the airbnb app on my phone and am notified immediately. I live in Costa Rica and can always be reached easily by house phone, if I am not already on the estate.
Monte Grande is a gated community with just a few other residence at the moment. There is always someone onsite, it is very safe and secure. There are a few lots still available for sale if you decide to extend your stay, forever.
It is a 20 minute walk to taxis, or a bus that passes once and hour until 5 pm. Rental car is recommended.
-This is a destination retreat, so a rental car is required.
- Be green; turn off lights, fans, coffeemaker when you leave. Use your towels more than once, and don't waste water during the dry months.
I recently stayed in Daniel's brick cabin for a total of 27 days. It was a great experience overall - Daniel was really accommodating to my needs, and the property, which is located outside of the nearest pueblo on a farm, is peaceful and has a really good vibe to it. Mario and Betty, the caretakers, were very chill and amicable, and also super helpful when I needed anything. The cabin was simple, tasteful, and clean, with basic amenities, very cold A/C, satellite t.v., and pretty much everything I needed - though I had to put sheets on 3 of the windows because there were no curtains - a minor detail but I felt exposed without them. Machete and Loca, the incredibly obedient and hilarious guard dogs, were fun to hang out with and the property felt really safe there with them around - I already miss those dogs! I also spent a good amount of time hiking up the hill to see the view of the surrounding mountains and ocean, wildlife, and beautiful sunsets. Also, noteworthy: I left my passport in the cabin and Daniel went out of his way to have it found and delivered to me on very short notice - so I didn't have to come all the way back from San Jose, 6 hours on a bus, and miss my flight back home. All in all this was a really great experience for me and I would recommend this place to anyone looking for some affordable chill time in the Costa Rican Guanacaste hills.
Loved staying at Danny's brick cottage! It's the ultimate escape from the outside world. The cottage is very compact, cozy, and cute and we loved staying there. Would definitely go back for a future stay and by the end of our 3-day stay, we wished we could stay longer! (Plus, you really can't beat the price!! We've stayed in places before for a similar amount per night and this was WAY better - cleaner, nicer, more comfortable.)
The cottage is designed in a really unique way so that hardly any energy needs to be used to maintain a cool, comfortable environment. There's no hot water, but that was not an issue at all - it was so hot when we were there that it was perfect to have a cool shower. Also, the overhead fan kept us very comfortable at night.
The view is directly into the forest and the sliding door faces away from the other 2 homes on the property so there's a lot of privacy. Hammock on the porch for relaxing. There's a very cute bamboo table surface that also serves as a divider between the sleeping and living areas. The kitchenette was great as well.
Danny was very nice and helpful before and during our stay. He's a great host - just our speed, gave great advice for what to do and see, and we also love his sweet dog Machete!
The cottage is very close to a bunch of different beaches - too many for us to see all of in a few days! The local food is also excellent. Highly recommend.
Great mountain views and tucked away in the woods, which makes for great star gazing! We loved the little woodsy cabin. You should rent a car to get around, because it's packed away in the woods (like I said) and there's so much to see! Great value.
We stayed in Casa Bambu for a couple of nights and extended our stay by renting Daniel's little cabin. It's a great cottage in a lovely jungle area. It has everything you'd need as a couple, complete with a comfy bed and hammock. The place itself was equipped perfectly for our needs. It's modern and clean but allowed you to feel at home in the nature.
The property itself is huge, so plenty of space for nice, long walks. Machete, the guard dog, was our ever faithful companion for jungle walks and general laziness. :)
Daniel is an experienced host and Danise, our local contact whilst he was away, was the perfect hostess, giving us loads of tips and going above and beyond.
We would thoroughly recommend people stay here, as it's a great base to discover the surrounding area and something a bit different.
Thank you again for a great stay!
