About this listing

Welcome to our West Virginia mountain cabin, situated high on a ridge within the Cacapon River watershed. Our 2-bedroom vacation cabin is perfect for couples or small families looking to get away and is located in the rolling hills West Virginia’s Eastern Panhandle--a 2 hour drive from D.C. Enjoy tranquil mornings surrounded by our 5 acre woods, curl up with a book in front of our wood burning stove, or walk only steps to the old logging road for an easy to moderate hike to beautiful vistas.

The space

Welcome to Seldom Seen Cabin--our definition of "cozy" and your escape to comfort and relaxation. We trust you’ll feel completely at home and grounded in nature at our secluded West Virginia cabin with mountain views.

Stunning landscapes, pristine river swimming, steaming Berkeley Springs mineral spas and the Paw Paw Tunnel are a few good reasons to visit Seldom Seen Cabin this summer. In the fall and winter, guests of our WV cabin rental say how much they love the sight and feel of a fire blazing in our wood burning stove and the coziness of the cabin environment. We think you'll agree!

Get ready to be obsessed with our porch! Guests of Seldom Seen Cabin all say just how much they love our mountain view, making your stay a unique one. We are located at the top of a mountain ridge, at approximately 1200 feet in elevation and the views from our covered, screened-in porch are to die for. During fall and winter, the leafless trees open the view to magnificent star gazing and on clear nights with absolutely no light pollution around, the sky is teeming with shooting stars.

In spring and summer, guests of Seldom Seen Cabin enjoy swimming, fishing and paddling on the nearby Cacapon River—known for excellent angling, beautiful scenery, hunting, plentiful wildlife, canoeing and kayaking. It’s one of the most pristine rivers to feed the Potomac and Chesapeake Watershed! Cabin guests have access to the Cacapon River for tubing and launching kayaks, canoes, or floats. Families and friends can also enjoy a slow and scenic float down the river, or wading and swimming at the nearby low water bridge during summer months. There are numerous alternative public stream access points nearby, perfect for launching small boats.

We extend many comforts of home at Seldom Seen Cabin. Our cozy, open-concept living area features an extremely comfortable Lazy-boy sofa with dual powered recliners, a second recliner for additional seating, Chromecast-enabled WiFi to stream your favorite shows, and a selection of DVDs for the entire family to enjoy. The farmhouse table seats 4, with room at the breakfast counter for more. Dual sliding doors open to spectacular mountain views, while the fully-stocked kitchen provides generous counter space for meal preparation. You will also find a gas grill with propane for grilling.

Our cabin comfortably sleeps 4, but we also provide a single Aerobed for your convenience. A pack-n-play and high chair, toddler-appropriate toys and games can also be found at the cabin.

Additional hiking and Potomac River fishing are just a short drive away. We are close to all that Berkeley Springs and West Virginia’s Eastern Panhandle have to offer:

0.4 miles to clean, natural swimming on the Cacapon River
10.1 miles to Eidolon Nature Preserve
10.3 miles to Berkeley Springs State Park
20.7 miles to Cacapon State Park
21.5 miles to Morgan County Observatory
27.4 miles to Paw Paw Tunnel

Interaction with guests

We'll interact with you to provide directions and access to the cabin. Cabin access is self-service through a lockbox, allowing for flexible arrival times.

Other things to note

Please bring your own sheets and towels for the beds. We provide down alternative comforters with clean duvet covers and pillows as well as many extras to make your stay a special one.

During the winter, the cabin's primary source of heat is the wood stove. (There are also baseboard heaters in the bedrooms and bathroom). We provide all wood, kindling, and instructions on how to get a roaring fire built in no time.

Archery season starts on Sept. 23rd and so begins hunting season in WV. Although we do not allow hunting on our land, we do recommend that you wear blaze orange or bright colors when you venture into the woods or on hiking trails.

Wildlife viewing is part of the joy of staying at our West Virginia cabin, however, please do not leave food or trash outside as it will attract wild animals (bears included!)

I almost don't want to say how great this place is so we can keep it to ourselves! :) The road was a bit steep getting in but our sedan made it just fine. The host made it easy with great directions and tons of helpful information about the area. The house is very well stocked, we felt right at home. Hands down - the best view anywhere from the cozy screened in porch!

My partner and I had a wonderful weekend at the cabin. Miranda and Wendy provided a wealth of information about the cabin and surrounding area leading up to the trip. The cabin was clean, comfortable, and well-stocked. I recommend either printing directions or downloading the map for offline use on (SENSITIVE CONTENTS HIDDEN) Maps, because we lost cell service 30 minutes before we got to the cabin. Also, you definitely don't want to do the drive up in a tiny car -- as the other reviewers noted, the mountain road is steep and windy. We didn't have any issues getting to the cabin or when we were there. Highly recommend, and we definitely would stay here again!

Thanks so much for your kind review! We are pleased to hear that you enjoyed your weekend getaway in the woods. We understand that the last stretch of road leading up to the cabin is quite different than the roads we're used to in the city - we think it's part of West Virginia's rural charm! The good news is, no one has had any problem driving up the hill in a small car in over 25 guests (even in poor weather). If anyone has any doubt, there's a secret-squirrel-y entrance that may be more appealing. Just ask!

Miranda's cabin is a wonderful getaway overlooking a scenic, forested valley. The cabin has a modern kitchen, great space, an easy-to-use woodstove and much more. Check out this cabin, it is well-worth your stay! I really enjoyed how Miranda made sure to address things with me before the stay began. She was on-call whenever I needed her and was patient through the whole process. She included sweet treats for smores and even a bottle of wine since it was our honeymoon! The cabin felt like home and was more than adequately equipped for the most adventurous or homebody type person. Thank you Miranda!!!

We had a wonderful stay at the cabin. It was as advertised: comfortable, well stocked with an absolutely incredible view. And yes, we're glad we took our SUV as our little Mini would not have made it :-). Communication with Miranda was very prompt and helpful. Would definitely stay there again!

Stunning views: check. Communicative/helpful host: check. Prefect balance of rustic with modern amenities: check. Fireplace: check. Secluded (even if that means getting the car a bit dirty on a steep dirt road): check. This was truly everything my 8 mos pregnant wife and I, celebrating her birthday and 10 years together, could've hoped for. We will be back one day 100%.

I almost don't want to write this review because I don't want the cabin to get so busy that I can't book it in the future lol! The cabin is perfect if you are looking for a secluded spot to disconnect (which I was). I turned off my cell phone, didn't connect to wifi, and enjoyed the 3 days of peace and quiet without distraction. The view from the screened in porch is amazing, I loved the wood burning fireplace, the kitchen had all the cooking tools I needed, the bathroom was clean, and the bed was comfortable. There was nothing more I could ask for on this trip! The road up the mountain to get to the cabin is very steep and unpaved so I would recommend driving a car with good clearance (SUV or truck would be even better). Communication with the hosts was great! They were there when I needed them and otherwise left me alone to enjoy my R&R. Miranda emailed a welcome packet in advance which was very thorough and explained exactly what to expect, things to do, what was provided, what I needed to bring with me, etc. Everything was exactly as described and I would absolutely stay again!

Since I was a young girl digging for crawdads in the unspoiled creeks of rural Ohio, I’ve found my true north in the woods. My partner and I purchased our cabin in 2014 as a place where we could get away from the crazy of the city and to foster our young daughter’s appreciation for nature. We’re thrilled to offer this special place for you to unwind and reconnect.
