  • Choosing Jonathan's place over a hotel was one of the best decisions I've made. It was a lot more than just accommodation. It was an experience (particularly since I'm foreign) and I've made new friends.

Jonathan and Mary Lynn were excellent hosts and went out of their way to make my stay (2 weeks) pleasurable. It was only after the 2nd or 3rd day I found out that Mary Lynn was parking on the road so that I could park in their drive way. Their two young kids and two dogs are so adorable. I felt completely at home.

The room and on-suite bathroom was very clean and comfortable. While the main living area is on the upper level of the house, the room is on the lower, providing plenty of privacy. Their house is located in an enviable neighborhood which is very safe, quiet and quite scenic.

Jonathan knows everyone in the neighborhood including owners of some good bars and restaurants in Manhattan, which obviously helps. We've had some interesting conversations about cultural differences, education, lifestyle choices etc during my stay. Will treasure the experience for a lifetime.

  • Jonathan was a great host and the room was perfect. Breakfast was also quite good.

  • This was our first AirBnB experience, and I have to say it was absolutely a fabulous time. Jonathan and his family are wonderful hosts, and made us feel like longtime friends as they welcomed us into their home. The room was pristine, and tastefully decorated, and had all of the amenities of a five star hotel. There was even a specially prepared snack basket for us suited to the tastes we mentioned to Jonathan when he asked about our breakfast likes. The house is a gem too - fully decked out in carefully curated mid-century modern decor with contemporary updates.

We could not have felt more welcomed and taken care of during our stay at Jonathan's, and we HIGHLY recommend staying here on your next visit to Manhattan.

  • I've had a lot of great AirBnB experiences, but I don't expect to find one that tops Jonathan and Mary Lynn's place on any available dimension.

If you are just an aesthete, seeking luxurious accommodations alone, you need look no further than this house. Though the house was of course comfortable and clean, Jonathan and Mary Lynn gave care and attention to every physical aspect of the experience. The room itself is quiet, with a lovely view of the flora and fauna in the backyard. I also appreciated the in-room snacks (cornucopia, really) and bottled water, as well as the access to great writing/thinking space in the downstairs living room (gigantic writing desk is a plus). Overall, the personal space in the house is really peaceful and private, which is ideal for the beginning and end of the day.

Moving upstairs, the aesthetic experience gets even richer. When I woke up each morning, Jonathan offered up some hot breakfast (breakfast sandwich!) and rich, tasty coffee (local roast, and expert brew). Since I was commuting each day I was here, Jonathan also had a to-go mug ready for me. On the last morning, Jonathan made me an even exquisite meal––a baked egg, surrounded by bacon, on top of some baked bread, topped with avocado and pico de gallo, with fresh-cut fruit salad on the side. To top it all off, the upstairs of the house is extremely well-appointed––and a great place to hang out over breakfast. The living room features a great selection of vintage furniture (loved the lamps), a fireplace, and a huge view of the surroundings. Gorgeous. Outside of the house, Jonathan acted as a great concierge for the town of Manhattan. Each night I was here, I had a fabulous meal (and some great cocktails) at bars and restaurants he recommended.

But great aesthetics alone are not half of what makes this my favorite AirBnB. To me, the element of the house that sets it apart is the family that owns it. Jonathan and Mary Lynn know how to live life, and their zest for living made my experience. I felt as if I were staying with friends. Words can't really convey how genuinely friendly these folks are and how they made me feel at home in a new place. I loved waking up and chatting with Jonathan each morning about music, the town of Manhattan, and any number of topics. When I came home, it was great to share and chat with these folks a bit about my day. The last night I was here was particularly special for me; I really enjoyed hanging out at a little house concert organized by Jonathan, and staying up late talking over drinks. This house presented me with the possibility that business traveling can yield joy, and to the idea that AirBnB can be a venue for building social connections rather than facilitating economic transactions alone. I really hope you get the chance to stay here.

  • Our stay at The Manhattan Home with Jonathan was just what we were looking for. Jonathan and his family were welcoming (and his two beautiful children were positively adorable!), while at the same time allowed us to have our space and respect our privacy. The space was exactly as described, with a private entrance and private bath. We were appreciative to find a bowl of snacks, waters, and even a local magazine-type guide of the area that was thoughtfully left in our room for us. While we already had dinner accommodations for the evening with friends, Jonathan was sure to let us know he was available to suggest good places to eat. The area was great; we took the very short drive out out by Kansas State and found an awesome selection of bars and local restaurants, just what we were hoping for. Not to mention, breakfast cooked up for us in the morning-- the best part about our stay! Bacon-wrapped eggs with fresh avocado slices, fresh Pico, English muffins, and freshly ground coffee. It was delicious, generous, and we enjoyed chatting as it was prepared right in front of us. Over breakfast we learned they sometimes even host bands for live music right in their home! We would have loved to be the lucky guests that get to book here for one of those intimate concerts! It looks like we'll definitely just have to try to come back the next time we pass through :)

  • I am grateful for people like the Mahorney family and a system like AirBNB that makes it possible to know them! My husband and I traveled to Manhattan for a weekend away and a show at the McCain auditorium. Jonathan is a thoughtful and gracious host, creating a perfect BNB experience. Their home is beautiful, comfortable and mindfully appointed for guests. The tips he gave us for enjoying our first visit to town, recommending a restaurant and a great coffee shop, were spot on. He is a good conversationalist and balances privacy and a welcoming friendly attitude very well. Additionally, he is an excellent cook! The food and time in the morning with their family, which includes two delightful young children, Kitty Cat and two well trained and orderly dogs, was a real highlight for us. I highly recommend staying with the Mahorney’s if you’re planning either a stopover or extended time in Manhattan, KS and if you are not yet, it still may be worth the trip! :o)

  • What a wonderful time we had with Jonathan and family. Everything was clean, welcoming and exactly as pictured. We enjoyed the little extras, like a bowl of treats and a candle.
The bed was comfortable and well appointed. We think the terrific breakfasts were much better than at the " Chef": We didn't have to wait an hour and the coffee was fantastic !!!
The family was so sweet and we fell in love with Alexander and Emerson, the little ones.. Mary Lynn and Jonathon were very interesting and they felt like family right away. The private entrance was great and the back patio felt amazing in the warm afternoon sun. We will stay with them again the next time we go to Manhattan ---a really nice town. Our Grandchildren are there and we can't wait to go back to see them....and our new friends....Kay and George Brown

  • I felt welcomed by Jonathan before I arrived when he not only invited my preferences for breakfast but also expressed how much he enjoyed providing interesting and creative dishes. And his welcome in person was just as warm. The room was very appealing, clean, with several nice touches. For example a new lavender-scented, sleep-promoting candle was accompanied by matches nearby, unspoken permission to enjoy it. He was also generous about the common areas in the house and included his family in the introductions and conversations. When my sister joined me, he did not hesitate to include her as well. He was tactful about being present when we wanted conversation and not intrusive when we wanted our own time.

His breakfasts were delicious and varied and, even better, the conversation about the area, his airbnb experiences, and personable manner made the breakfasts a time to look forward to!

This was an excellent first experience with airbnb and I look forward to more. I would highly recommend Jonathan's place if you are visiting Manhattan or traveling through Kansas.

  • What a treat to spend an evening and morning breakfast in the Mahorney family home. I was delighted with the ultra-clean and well appropriated interior surroundings and wished I had more time to enjoy the private exterior back porch that looked out upon an inner-city forest. Jonathan has been remodeling this 1950's home and applying his incredible design sensitivity, knowledge and skills as both an architect and craftsman to re-envision this B-n-B home.
Also, you will be delighted to meet the most precious little children and sweet animals that they have as well.
A truly wonderful family, generous breakfast offerings and great comfortable bed, I loved my stay there.

  • Johnathan and his wife Mary Lynn are exceptional hosts. They truly made us feel at home and very comfortable. The bed is very comfy and the room is decorated beautifully. We appreciated having a private bathroom adjoining the bedroom, and a private entrance. If you stay with Jonathan you are in for a real treat for breakfast. He is a fantastic chef and prepares a world-class breakfast. We highly recommend them and their home.
