Getting around

You can drive from San Jose to Manzanillo if you prefer to have your own rent a car. It's about a 4 hour drive, really beautiful through the mountains. The least expensive way to get to Manzanillo
is the Mepe bus(around $10.) that comes direct to Manzanillo. The bus stop is diagonally across the street from the house. . A taxi from the airport to the bus terminal is around $25-$30.You could also take the interbus(also two other companies) which is an airconditioned minivan for around $45. per person but they will not pick you up at the airport just a hotel. Another option is to have a driver pick you up at the airport or your hotel in San Jose and he will stop along the way as you please. We have a really nice guy who speaks English with a van who charges $180 no matter how many people. Once your in Manzanillo you can take the local buses which run back and forth to the laidback town of Puerto Viejo. You can also rent bikes, scooters or golf carts. The road in is lush and beautiful so nice to experience it being outside on a bike etc.

  • Diane was a great owner, she responded to all our questions quickly and gave great directions to the house. Jennifer, who lives behind the house and takes care of it, was awesome! She was there to welcome us and had invaluable tips about the area and fun things to do.
The location of the house is amazing, just across the beach and walking distance to multiple stores and restaurants. The house was clean and spacious and well equipped. Our kids had a blast with the bed above the kitchen! The power & water went out more than once, but always came back on within a day.
We enjoyed our week at the house and who knows - we might be back one day :)

  • The best aspect of this home is the caretaker, jennifer! she has lived in the country for several years, and has a vast knowledge of the area. she also has an wide knowledge of many "alternative" healing modalities. she helped our stay in manzanillo become more of a retreat than just a vacation. she is fabulous.
the house is definitely a "rental" where the pluses outweigh the minuses. even with all the lights on, the house is dimly lit. there are a couple of standing lamps that can be used for proper reading lamps. the front porch is the best. the divan is ultra comfy for 2 people. the outside dining table is equally as comfortable. the kitchen is very well equipped, if not well lighted. the living room furniture could be more comfortable. the bathroom is small with a tiny shower, again, dimly lit. the center room really doesnt seem to have a purpose (we used it as a catch-all) and the back bedroom is quite sparse although the double bed is comfortable. the upstairs bedroom is fantastic. the roar of the ocean waves is quite the lullaby. the makeshift king-size bed is again, very comfortable. the beach is literally across the street and is very suitable for swimming. long walks can be taken on the beach.
all in all the house is as advertised. we liked it and probably will return.

  • Perfect location in quiet Manzanillo with some of the most beautiful beaches of Costa Rica nearby. The house itself has a frontyard and only one street separates it from the beach. The architecture of the house is very unique, especially around the upper bedroom, which gives you the impression of being right in the jungle. Only the bathroom could need some improvements.
If you have any questions about the house or the area, Jennifer will help you out in a very friendly way and can organise tours for you.
I would highly recommend staying here if you are looking for perfect paradise in a quiet surrounding.
