Getting around

You can drive from San Jose to Manzanillo if you prefer to have your own rent a car. It's about a 4 hour drive, really beautiful through the mountains. The least expensive way to get to Manzanillo
is the Mepe bus(around $10.) that comes direct to Manzanillo. The bus stop is diagonally across the street from the house. . A taxi from the airport to the bus terminal is around $25-$30.You could also take the interbus(also two other companies) which is an airconditioned minivan for around $45. per person but they will not pick you up at the airport just a hotel. Another option is to have a driver pick you up at the airport or your hotel in San Jose and he will stop along the way as you please. We have a really nice guy who speaks English with a van who charges $180 no matter how many people. Once your in Manzanillo you can take the local buses which run back and forth to the laidback town of Puerto Viejo. You can also rent bikes, scooters or golf carts. The road in is lush and beautiful so nice to experience it being outside on a bike etc.

Other things to note

We ask that guests check in after 3p.m. and check out by 11 a.m.. Exceptions can be made but we need to know well in advance.

We stayed in this beautiful house for 9 nights and it was perfect. It is as described and in a stunning location. Very well stocked kitchen, great porch overlooking a practically deserted idyllic Caribbean beach. Our favourite was falling asleep to the noise of the waves and nearby monkeys in the open and breezy upstairs bedroom. Great reef for snorkelling within swimming distance. Host and caretaker were lovely and very helpful and informative. Can't recommend the place enough.

Great instant communication with the host and property keepers. Did everything they can to make our stay a great experience. Thank you to all. Great location, beautifully designed house but requires a major maintenance and up dates.

Diane's House in Manzanillo is just awesome. We stayed with our three kids for almost two weeks. We felt like in paradise. The house has many doors, windows and open walls which makes you feel like living outside in the jungle. We had almost every day tropical rain because it was the rain season. It was very nice to listen to all that nature sounds including the nearby waves of the Caribbean see, animals and sometimes reggae music from the neighborhood. This beautiful house with the beautiful porch was one of the best places we stayed during our one month travel around Costa Rica. We can deeply recommend Diana's House to all the airb&b community. Marilyn the Manager of the house and Cara and Matilda witch are living just behind the house are very lovely. Always there with a helping hand and good advices for all kinds of activities in the area. We felt very welcome and will definitely come back as soon as possible. Thank you all so much.

My nephew and I stayed in Diane's Manzanillo Beachfront home for nine days. Our experience was wonderful. Diane was very helpful answering questions and offering suggestions for our stay. The house is very spacious and comfortable, with an amazing front porch where we spent the majority of our time just enjoying the views and sounds of the beach and Manzanillo. The property is rustic and fits in perfectly with Manzanillo. Everything was very clean and well stocked with all the essentials we needed for our stay - fresh linens, towels, plenty of bottled water. The location is just perfect for anyone just looking to relax and enjoy the beautiful, quiet setting in Manzanillo. There are several sodas within easy walking distance as well as a small grocery store. We didn't have a car and never felt that we needed one. The Mepe bus stop is nearby and takes you anywhere you want to go up the coast. Cara is the caretaker who stays in the casita in the back and is very nice. He works at Bart's Dive Shop and can arrange several different tours as well as renting bikes, which we did and had a great time bicycling around the back roads and trails. We had a great time during our stay and look forward to returning sometime very soon. Thanks, Diane.

Diane's place was great! As close to the beach as you can get in Manzanillo, very close to a little market and some restaurants, and has some creature comforts (coffee maker, wifi, TV, hot water shower, bottled water to drink). Perfect place to get away from the hustle bustle of life and relax. The house has doors that open up to a beautiful porch, which I never left other than to run over to the ocean for a dip in the water. The master bedroom is more or less a screened in room so it lets all of the jungle and ocean noises in - fell asleep every night listening to the waves! Look forward to returning!

Our stay at Diane's lovely Oceanfront home was spectacular. The house is situated right across from the ocean - the location is the closest that the building laws in Manzanillo would allow it to be constructed. You can hear the ocean all throughout the day and all night, making for a very soothing and relaxing lullaby sound. Diane was very helpful from the beginning, whether it was providing us with directions from the airport to local knowledge on restaurants in and around Manzanillo. Excellent communication! The location is perfect for families or couples and is in the "quiet" town. Puerto Viejo, Cocles, and Playa Chiquita have more surfers and late nighters, so if that is your thing, then you can look there...otherwise, the drive to the farthest of the aforementioned towns is roughly 20 minutes. The house is absolutely awesome - in great shape, lots of space, and again, right in front of the ocean! The locals are oh so friendly, and you have a supermarket, a bike/snorkeling/surfboard rental shop right next door, and a bunch of sodas (cafes) a few steps away. This sounds as if it would be very noisy, but that is not the case. Our stay was great and would definitely stay again in the future! Thanks Diane!
