You can drive from San Jose to Manzanillo if you prefer to have your own rent a car. It's about a 4 hour drive, really beautiful through the mountains. The least expensive way to get to Manzanillo
is the Mepe bus(around $10.) that comes direct to Manzanillo. The bus stop is diagonally across the street from the house. . A taxi from the airport to the bus terminal is around $25-$30.You could also take the interbus(also two other companies) which is an airconditioned minivan for around $45. per person but they will not pick you up at the airport just a hotel. Another option is to have a driver pick you up at the airport or your hotel in San Jose and he will stop along the way as you please. We have a really nice guy who speaks English with a van who charges $180 no matter how many people. Once your in Manzanillo you can take the local buses which run back and forth to the laidback town of Puerto Viejo. You can also rent bikes, scooters or golf carts. The road in is lush and beautiful so nice to experience it being outside on a bike etc.
