Downtown Private Room With a View

Apartment - Private room · Fannin Street, Houston, TX 77002, United States

This clean, comfortable, and safe room comes with it's own private entrance. Enjoy a hotel-like feel without paying hotel prices! Private bath, personal climate control, wireless internet, and Direct TV package allow you to make the room "your own" while staying. The best deal in downtown!

The Space

This 16th floor “room with a view” is located in a building formerly known as the Texas State Hotel and the San Jacinto Hotel, and has a history that dates to 1929. In 2005, a $17 million restoration project brought back the grandeur of the Spanish Renaissance landmark. Wonderful examples of Art Deco tile, lighting, and crown-molding were all preserved in the Main Lobby area.

The room has private access, Queen Size Bed w/nightstand, dresser, reading chair w/side-table, recliner, 45" flat-screenTV , WiFi, small fridge, private bath/shower, and small closet equipped with spare towels, linens, and iron/ironing board. The room has it's own climate control to keep it the temperature YOU like it to be! Vending/Ice, Laundry Room, and a Gym are available on-site, as well as, a great place to eat or drink called TABLE 7 Bistro. It is open from 6:30a - 10:00p each day. Many other restaurants deliver to the lobby of the property. (Please note that the windows in this property do not open for safety reasons.)

Several surface lots and parking garages immediately adjacent offer varied parking from daily, weekly, and monthly fees. However, you can get around downtown for FREE on the brand new GREENLINK BUSES. The route spans 2.5 miles with 18 stops and connects major office buildings along Smith and Louisiana streets to METRO transit, the convention corridor, hotels, restaurants, shopping and entertainment. Popular downtown destinations along the route include the George R. Brown Convention Center, Main Street Square, Discovery Green, Macy’s, Houston Pavilions, Phoenicia Specialty Foods, City Hall and the Central Library. GREENLINK runs Monday – Friday from 6:30a – 6:30p every 7 – 10 minutes.

If you need information on parking locations and rates, I can provide that. On-site parking is available via the hotel-side of the property and is billed 24-hour period. It is all valet and one can come and go as much as desired for $20.00 per day. While not the most expensive in the downtown area, there are other options one can seek out once they are hear - surface lots, garages, etc. Street/Meter parking is available and it is FREE from 6p - 7a Monday thru Saturday and all day on Sunday. The Front Desk of the property can answer your parking questions easily.

Staying in the heart of the city means you won't have to travel far to find activities to keep you entertained. Whether you decide to walk, hop on the Metro Light Rail a block away (runs to Reliant Stadium area and Med Center), ride a cab (only $7 fare to anywhere in Downtown), or easily access any of Houston's major freeways nearby, you'll never find yourself bored. Within walking distance you can go see a basketball, baseball, hockey, or soccer game, see a movie at new Sundance Theater, visit Discovery Green Park and join their daily activities, go bowling at Lucky Strikes, see a concert at House of Blues, hit the museums or dine at any of the dozens of restaurants available. There are also several late-night Pubs and Bars that are a short walk from the building. There's something for whatever mood hits you!

Guest Access

Guests will have access to the room via a private entrance. Doors can be locked from the inside for added safety. Although there is no access to the rest of the apartment, I do seek to be as accomodating as possible. If there is a special need...just ask!

Guests have access to the lobby and hotel areas to meet, relax, work-out, and dine. Wireless access is available throughout the property, with complimentary coffee, snacks, newspapers, washer/dryer, and work-out room available 24-hours a day.

Interaction with Guests

I am generous with my time as my schedule permits. Will handle short rides and longer sight-seeeing trips, as well. It all depends on my schedule. I usually enjoy sharing a meal out with some good conversation. I allow the guest to set the tone for what they want or need from me. I work out of my apartment during the day, for the most part, so I am accesible for any questions you may have.

The Neighborhood

I love being in the heart of the city and you will too! Houston has such a vibrant arts community - professional world-class to amature. Only Broadway offers more theater seats for patrons than Houston. Award-winning Opera, Symphony, Ballet, Muscal Theater, and Classic Plays of every taste and kind are available every day of the week and many within walking distance from this room! You are also within walking distance to the underground tunnel system that connects all of the downtown area. While below, you will find places to eat and shop, and professional services from dry cleaners, hair and nail salons to doctors of various practices...and all climate controlled! (That's a good thing in Houston!) Tunnel access is available during daytime business hours. Go exploring!

Getting around

The location in the heart of downtown Houston allows one access to the city via light-rail and bus, as well as, walking distance to the Mega-bus stop. The location is ideal for the traveler who does not have a car to park and is free from the worry of paying for downtown lot, garage, or street parking. For those who do drive, several surface lots and parking garages immediately adjacent offer varied parking from daily, weekly, and monthly fees. Once parked you can get around downtown for FREE on the brand new GREENLINK BUSES. The route spans 2.5 miles with 18 stops and connects major office buildings along Smith and Louisiana streets to METRO transit, the convention corridor, hotels, restaurants, shopping and entertainment. Popular downtown destinations along the route include the George R. GREENLINK runs Monday – Friday from 6:30a – 6:30p every 7 – 10 minutes. One can also easily catch METRO BUSES to anywhere in Houston one cares to go. One block away are pick-ups and drop-offs for Houston's LIGHT RAIL. This runs through the heart of the city connecting downtown to the Museum District, Zoo, Medical Center, and Reliant Park and Stadium and once a day there is a Metro Bus that goes to Johnson Space Center (NASA).

Other Things to Note

If you need a ride or would like some sight-seeing in a personal way around town, I am happy to accomodate as my schedule allows. Just ask! Should you need any personal services such as out-goin(website hidden), package delivery, or dry-cleaning sent out...I can arrange for that through my Front Desk. Coffee, Latte, and Cappacino is available 24/7 in the Main Lobby. During the weekdays until 10p, soft-drink, snacks and fresh fruit are always on hand, as well. Enjoy!

  • Glenn was the host with the MOST !! He far exceeded any expectations!! ~ i was in Houston, traveling solo in a foreign city (to me) on a business trip. Glenn was very supportive in my journey, answered any of my questions about the city, gave me very useful travel tips, and even helped me get around the city! Not to mention the accommodation was very warm/comfortable/inviting! I would definitely recommend staying here :) !!

  • OK, this is my third time to stay at Glenn's fabulous place ..... and it won't be my last! He continues to upgrade his space and just make it nicer and nicer for the business traveler or visitor wanting to experience Downtown Houston Life. The latest upgrade is a very cute small red fridge, which he has stocked with water and drinks, with room for your own fruit or veggies. Very Nice. Book it if you can -- Glenn is getting more and more popular, deservedly so!

    Response from Glenn:

Thanks Chrissi...You are very kind and a great guest whom I would host anytime.

  • Once again my stay with Glenn was perfect: perfect location 2 blocks from my office, perfectly appointed room, perfectly hospitable host. Oh, and for the first time I tried the Bistro 7 downstairs in the first floor of the building -- perfectly delightful. The second day of my stay I immediately booked Glenn's place for two future trips.

  • This is the place to stay in downtown Houston! Engaging host who added extra touches to make it a wonderful experience.....private accommodations in a grand "old hotel" setting. What a value!

  • Glenn was a FANTASTIC host -- warm and welcoming, and I will definitely look forward to staying there again in the very near future. The room and private bath were lovely, basically like your own little hotel room, except better, and had everything I needed and wanted, including nice tv, lots of towels, clean uncluttered beautiful space, cool books, info on nearby cafes and sites, cool view, flowers, fresh fruit, chocolates. Very comforting to know Glenn was in the adjacent apartment if there were any problems. Which there weren't! But still nice to know, you know? There is also the downstairs staff and the downstairs excellent lounge with espresso bar, fruit, munchies, cozy chairs, wifi. Really perfect home away from home if you are in Houston for business or whatever.

  • Our stay was very nice. Glenn was very generous, accessible when needed and mindful of our need for privacy. As with all the reviews we read prior to our stay we strongly recommend Glenn's "private room with a view"

    January 2014
  • A hassle-free stay with all things as promised. I would stay again.

    January 2014
  • Glenn was a fantastic host with a perfect place. Basically a small hotel room, it had a comfortable bed and a nice bathroom (and a nice TV, which I didn't use). It has all of the amenities of a hotel without the usual cost! Convenient to downtown locations as well. I would definitely stay again.
