The Space

Our cottage is not only placed in extraordinarily beautiful countryside but is also a site of historical interest being part of the Witley Court estate. Our house and cottage used to house the engines that powered the fountains for this incredible stately home.
There are a number of walking and cycling routes close by and local amenities such as a pub, post office / shop, garage, seasonal tea rooms are all within a mile and a half.

Guest Access

Guests will have access to a private secluded garden complete with patio area for relaxing and enjoying the scenery. Guests will also be able to use our free parking, free wifi, DVD player, television and a wide range of television channels.

Interaction with Guests

We plan to leave guests to enjoy the property however we are always on hand to answer questions and make recommendations.

The Neighborhood

We are in a secluded quiet area however we are immersed in the surrounding history, and view our property as a peaceful and relaxing retreat while still maintaining accessible transport links.

Getting around

There is limited public transport, namely a 4x daily bus service to Worcester (our nearest city), and Tenbury Wells (a pretty and unique local town).
Thus we recommend that guests bring a car or their own form of transport.

    Hi Dirk,

Thank you! No, not yet; Mrs Duck is still sitting on her 6 eggs. I shall let you know when they are born! Best wishes to you and your lovely family. Jan

  • We had a great stay at the cottage. Jan and her husband Peter were excellent hosts and the place is immaculate and very restful. Lots of places to visit in the area. We used it as a base to visit family and friends in Birmingham and Lichfield. Highly recommended !

  • We had a fantastic stay here - what a find! Immaculately clean, fully equipped, comfy and cosy, private and secure. Even better than it looks on air bnb!! Jan & Peter made us very welcome and were most accommodating.

The engine keepers cottage provided a perfect base for my family (including children) to explore the beautiful countryside and visit family in Birmingham on a visit from Australia. The cottage is an easy (and beautiful) commute from south Birmingham & airport, close to motorway connections for London and the south east / wales. It is surrounded by stunning countryside : Worcestershire, Herefordshire and Shropshire and an easy drive to the Welsh border.

You can relax at the cottage if you don't feel like venturing out and children can explore the fields and garden freely. A short walk to explore Witley church, court and tea rooms is also an option.

We stayed for 9 days and could have easily stayed longer. We will definitely return - we chose this location as there wasn't much available for a family in the Birmingham area - this turned out to be a much better option. Can't recommend it enough - thank you.

  • The Engine Keepers cottage is a really great place to stay. The accommodation is self-contained and the standard is exceptionally high with everything you need for a very comfortable stay.

Great countryside for walking. We enjoyed having our breakfast sitting by the stream and watching the wildlife.

The owner, Jan, is very helpful and knows a lot about the surrounding area and where to visit.

We recommend this cottage very highly.

About
We live in the old Engine House in rural Worcestershire which used to house the engines which fired the fountains at Witley Court, a stately home currently managed by English Heritage. We have two children, one lives in London and the other in Cambridge, Massachusetts. We love the theatre, literature, poetry and consider ourselves fortunate to be so close to Stratford upon Avon for the RSC and Birmingham for the arts, theatre, shopping and restaurants. We have travelled widely and enjoy meeting people from anywhere and everywhere.
