About this listing
This bright, cheery room will be the highlight of your visit! Birds chirping in the morning, the beautiful views, a country respite for those used to the hustle and bustle of the city! Dreamspard and C'town All-Star Village friendly. Wifi & Verizon
The Green Room is downstairs. It has a double bed, dresser, closet, two comfy chairs, and is decorated in not-your-typical-upstate decor. Piano in dining room. Basketball hoop in drive, gym in barn, running routes, pond. Beautiful area, close to many venues: Unadilla Raceway (Zombie Run), Fly Creek Cider Mill, Cooperstown Hall of Fame, The two Cooperstown Dreamsparks, Ommegang Brewery for concerts, and Butternuts Brewery is right down the road. Beautiful place to relax.
Keycode entry. Code will be texted after payment arrangements have been made. Guests in my home are welcome to use it as their own. I ask that any computer usage be limited to not downloading and going to various inappropriate sites. Cook as you like, clean up after yourself, and if you empty something, refill it. I can be talked into yummy food creation, just ask!
Interaction with Guests
To their liking. I have a studio above my barn, and can disappear completely should whole house privacy be needed. I am very friendly and would love any piano players to engage the house in song! Communication is key I have found. I can "serve" the guests should they require it, offering suggestions on the area, at an additional charge.
I love that I can walk or run a 1.5 mile circle, and hop in the creek on my way back! I also love that when you stay with me, you can "meet your meal." I use meat, eggs, milk, veggies and cheese from local producers, compost all leftover food, and always stop to see Esther the local Amish woman who makes and sells the breads I use for French Toast. She also makes a yummy blueberry pie.
Yes we have transportation. It's called your feet. We are 20 minutes from any real life (WalMart), but you can get "quickie" things, gas and cash at the store down the hill. If a cow gets out of her pen, I guess you could saddle her up and ride her "into town?"
Other Things to Note
I make every effort to make my home a "destination location." I enjoy cooking and serving at an extra charge. I compost, grow my own herbs, lemon balm, American and German Oregano, Parsley, Cilantro, Basil, and Dill, and raise my own chickens for eggs. As one guest stated, "It's not the Taj Mahal," but it's my home and I'd love the opportunity to share it with you!
Respectfully and communicative. Please smoke outside. Please don't take food into rooms, in the sticks, critters don't like the cold and food draws them in. BYOB and drink responsibly.
Melissa’s home on High Street was a great introduction to Airbnb for my husband and me. Her location worked very well for us, less than half an hour out of Cooperstown, Lake Otsego, and the Ommegang Brewery (for a Bonnie Raitt concert). The house is surrounded by rolling hills and beautiful farm country.
We stayed in the Green Room which is a good size for 2 people. At night, we opened the window and enjoyed sleeping with the cool night air filling our room. The bed was very comfortable, as evidenced by the fact that we each slept until about 9:30 both mornings. The bathroom is located next to the Green Room on the first floor, and that was a plus for us.
Melissa is a funny, outgoing person who is a very welcoming and generous host. We had a delicious breakfast both mornings with eggs fresh from Melissa’s chickens, juice, bacon, toast and Melissa’s own blend of coffee. She is very knowledgeable about the local area, and made a recommendation for dinner at an Italian restaurant in Fly Creek that we would never have found on our own. (The dinner was very good.)
There were also two guests in the other rooms during our stay. The conversations over breakfast in the morning, and in the evening as people returned from their day’s activities, were a nice addition to our stay.
At times during our local travel, our GPS had no service, but it was fine most of the time. (The GPS on our phones, instead of paper maps, is our first choice for our trip navigation these days.) Melissa was very helpful in providing printed maps and directions when needed. Having free Wi-Fi in the house was a nice amenity.
So, if you’re going to be in Cooperstown, you should stay at Melissa’s home on High Street. You get both a good price and the real life, people to people experiences that you generally don’t get at the Marriott’s and Holiday Inns of this world.
Melissa is the absolute best! Very gracious, accommodating and sweet. She was in a rush to attend to some personal matters the next day but still went out of her way to take me in and even provide a few recommendations. The surrounding area is very quiet and lovely if you want to escape from the noise of the big city. The room was clean and just as you see it in the photos. Would definitely stay again!
Melissa planned a welcome cookout for all of our Cooperstown Induction Weekend attendees which was lively, fun, and a bit of a comedy of errors, but it was a comedy. We all laughed and eventually got it all together. It's a busy time, with lots of conflicting schedules, so having a way for everyone to connect was a great way to establish memories and have a blast for a fun weekend. The room was comfortable and Mel lives up to the "mi casa es su casa" mindset. This is an affordable, centrally located space with low light pollution, clean air, and mighty fresh eggs. Thanks for making it a cool weekend! Totally would book again for next HOF weekend, aside from shifting my stay duration a bit so that I'm not so mentally fried on the day of induction.
Great company, casual atmosphere, nice breakfast. Melissa took us last minute and let me bring my dog along -- it was great to arrange an easy place to stay last minute. Thanks Melissa!
We chose this place for our trip to the Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown, New York. It's about half an hour away by car.
Staying at Melissa's house was a great experience. Her house is in the country side, very quiet and peacefull area. Roosters and chickens will wake you up very early if you have a light sleep :-)
Melissa is very welcoming and corteus. Very communicative and greated us with a smile eventhough we arrived very late at night.
In the morning she treated us to a delicious breakfast with eggs from the chickens that she has in her back yard!! You cannot get more organic and natural than that :-)
Thank you Melissa, it was a real pleasure to meet you and stay at your lovely home!
Thank you so much for your kind words Gisselle! You and your hubby were a pleasure to have. I really enjoy welcoming people to my little piece of imperfect heaven here. Can't wait to get your flax tortilla recipe! Those darned country birds always think that 5 a.m. is the perfect time to sing their sweet songs--ugh! (Ear-plugs provided :) Another wonderful experience without leaving my home!
Very pleasant host, good conversation. Room was clean and comfortable. Property shows it's age.
We would stay again.
I had a terrific stay at The House on High Street. Melissa had a few guests staying at the same time (Hall of Fame weekend) and she organized a welcome barbecue so that we could all get to know each other. We were all open, adventurous types so conversation was easy. My room was comfortable and thoughtfully appointed. Coffee was available most mornings and one day unexpectedly, Melissa made eggs for everyone. Very tasty! Located about 30 minutes from Cooperstown, the drive through the countryside was a pleasure each morning and night. It gave me a break from all the baseball and reminded me that this was my vacation too.
Melissa herself though was the highlight. She 'adopted' my son and I for the week, attending baseball games at the Cooperstown Dream Park when she could to support him. She played baseball and basketball with him that first night when he stayed with me which he really enjoyed. Throughout the week, she offered recommendations to help me make the most of my stay in the area and even loaned me a power strip when she heard that we were all having a terrible time keeping our phones charged at the park. All of the parents on our team were so appreciative of her thoughtfulness.
Staying with Melissa met all of my expectations for a first Airbnb experience. A clean, comfortable room was provided that gave me a place to get away each night. Melissa and I talked about some improvements that can be made to the bathroom, and she was on it before I had even left. In the end, booking with Airbnb is about the people you meet. I hope that my next Airbnb experience lives up to this one.

About the Host, Melissa
Kids are gone & I'm left in a big house in the country. Won't you share it with me? Rolling fields, creek down the street, central to numerous venues. The Baseball Hall of Fame, Cooperstown Dreamspark & the Cooperstown All-Star Village, Glimmerglass Opera, Brewery Ommegang & their concert series as well as the Foothills Performing Arts center. The Unadilla Motocross racetrack, is down the road, and the Fly Creek Cider Mill, Butternuts Brewery & the Beverage Trail. Relaxing country setting, with a non-traditional decor. I love cooking & would love to make you a meal or breakfast made from my own chickens eggs! Wi-Fi & cell service, so you can stay I touch if you need to. Come hop in the creek! You won't regret it! I can get by with some Spanish & even remember most of my finger-spelling letters!
