About this listing
Most Airbnb hosts and guests are aware that many Airbnb accommodations are not authorised by the councils of the cities in which they are located. My apartment is now fully authorised by the City of Sydney Council.
Please send me a brief personal profile (eg number of people, ages, type of work you do, reason for trip) with your enquiry before you make a reservation. I just like to know a little bit about you if you're going to be sharing my home! Feel free to ask me about special weekly and monthly prices. These vary depending on the time of the year so are not listed on my page.
This fabulous designer apartment with high speed broadband internet is located in the heart of the inner-west area of Newtown, less than 5km from Sydney city centre and 8km from Sydney International Airport. It's available for short-medium stays).
Originally a church building, it was converted about three years ago to three apartments. My apartment consists of three levels and the top two levels can be booked for groups of up to 4 people. I live in a self-contained apartment on the ground floor and I share the laundry and the front entrance (on the ground floor) with guests.
The apartment is more suitable for adults on holidays or business trips than for families with small children. I'm close to Sydney university so the apartment is also perfect for visiting academics for seminars or conferences.
The middle level is a beautiful light-filled space with a large living area and north-facing windows. It contains:
* a large (47") flat screen LCD LED TV
* a dvd player and stereo system with iPod deck
* sofa and easy chairs
* dining table (seats 6-8)
* Heat & Glo gas fireplace
* adjustable, remotely-operated external blinds.
The kitchen is fully equipped including:
* smeg oven and gas cooktop
A small deck on this level provides further entertaining area with a weber barbecue, pot plants, Ikea stackable stools for extra seating and a hammock (in summer).
The top level has two bedrooms and a bathroom. One of the bedrooms has a very comfortable queen-sized bed and the other has a double bed with firm mattress. The ceilings are the original timber church ceilings and some of the original beams and arches are featured throughout the house. There are lovely views from the top floor – district views including large trees and terrace houses from the bedrooms, and treetops from the bathroom.
Newtown itself is a very funky area with lots of cafes, an arthouse cinema, pubs, galleries, parks and fashion shops. Nearby Erskineville (5 minute walk) is also very popular for its cafes, pubs, gourmet deli and award-winning flower shop. It has more of a village atmosphere than Newtown and is a nice contrast.
Beaches are about 20 minutes away by car and there is a direct bus route to Coogee Beach which is not far from the famous Bondi Beach or the beautiful little Bronte and Tamarama beaches.
A popular weekend farmers' market is held at Carriageworks every Saturday 8am - 1pm (cash only, no ATM on site)
243 Wilson Street, Darlington (near Redfern Station). You can walk there in about 20 minutes.
A trip into Sydney CBD is just four stops away by train (13 minutes). There are three train stations (Newtown, Erskineville, Macdonaldtown) nearby, each about a 5-minute walk from the apartment.
There is so much to see and do in this area. You may never even get to the Sydney Opera House!
* in-house laundry facilities, iron & ironing board, hairdryer
Guests have the top two levels of the apartment for their sole use. I live on the ground level. Shared access areas are the front foyer and the laundry on the lower level. The bathroom and living area on the lower level are off limits to guests.
Interaction with Guests
As I live on the lower level I am generally available to help guests with information or to have a chat. The amount of interaction is determined by my guests. Of course I love to get to know my guests but understand that they are staying here for reasons other than meeting me!
My neighbourhood offers a vibrant café/shopping/cinema/winebar strip (King St, Newtown) and a slightly quieter, village-type atmosphere in Erskineville Rd, Erskineville. I love both. Walking around the area is easy and interesting as there are many lovely old terrace houses, parks and street art, not to mention the people you may meet!
There is usually no need to hire a car to get around Sydney if you stay at my place. Public transport to the city is fast and convenient. You can hop on a train to the city from either Newtown or Erskineville Station and be there in around 15 minutes. Buses from King St will take you to the city, Broadway, Glebe, Coogee Beach and more.
I know that if you're staying at my place you're probably on a holiday but there are still a few rules!
1. First and foremost, please consider my neighbours who may be slightly anxious about living near an Airbnb home. Little things like not smoking outside their homes, not being overly loud especially after 10pm and being friendly if you run into them will be appreciated by all and will help to maintain Airbnb's good reputation.
1. No smoking. If you're a smoker or one of your fellow guests is a smoker, please take advantage of the park across the road where you're least likely to upset anyone.
2. No loud parties (small dinner parties and gatherings are fine, but remember that you have neighbours who are more than likely not on holidays and may have to get up and go to work the next day)
3. Children under the age of 16 are not to be left at home without parental supervision as I'm not insured for any damage caused in these circumstances.
4. Please be careful when you’re bringing large travel bags into the house and up and down the stairs. Try to avoid dragging them if possible as some bags leave scratches on the timber floors and marks on the walls. I’m happy to help you carry them if I’m home when you arrive.
5. Before you check out, please strip the bed/s and put all the laundry (sheets, pillowcases, towels, bath mat but not doona covers or blankets) outside the laundry on the lower floor.
6. When you're leaving please don’t leave dirty dishes/glasses/cutlery etc in the sink. Wash them by hand or pack the dishwasher and turn it on before you go.
7. No extra guests staying overnight unless you've discussed this with me prior to your visit and I've agreed.
The house is so nice to stay and it is the same as its photos show on the website. Just a few minutes walk to the train station. Located at a quiet street. It was warm in bedrooms at night with window closed even without heaters. Closed to restaurants and bars and the popular watermelon cake in Black Star Pastry. Not far away from city centre. Lynn is so kind to help.
Lynn's home was perfect for what we needed. I live in the area, but required a larger place to accommodate friends and family who were travelling from Adelaide and Melbourne. We decided to rent a place on AirB&B in order to stay somewhere with a bit more character and charm than your standard hotel.
The house was beautifully presented and contained everything you need for short term rental. Excellent location too, within walking distance to the Newtown area and train station.
Lynn’s apartment is in a word….FANTASTIC!!! Perfect, perfect, perfect location when visiting Sydney!…Photos of rental are very accurate. The apartment is very spacious ,very bright and airy, and tidy!
Lynn was very friendly and welcoming! Every detail was taken care of , before we even arrived. Very detailed instructions for everything!…She even provided us with fresh fruit, milk and Nepresso coffee upon arrival (this was definitely appreciated after our 15 hour flight!). She was readily available for any and all questions if need be. I found her to be very charming and delightful!…Glad I had the opportunity to have met her!
Just a side note….Newtown has a cool, funky, artistic vibe to it. It reminded me of Soho and Greenwich Village (NYC) before the gentrification.. It’s close to EVERYTHING! There are A LOT of dining options around the area, really cool cafe’s and lounges, bars etc. (King street)….It is also super close by train into Sydney’s center. I couldn’t have asked for a better location! I would definitely rent this again if I had the opportunity to.
Lynn was a great host as always. I've stayed there previously and it was as good as last time. Place is easy to get to from the airport, and everything in the house is very well maintained. A really comfortable and enjoyable place to stay.
We had a great stay at Lynn's place in Newtown. She was there to greet us and was flexible with our arrival time. Her space was as advertised, very cool and contemporary in a very hip section of Sydney. It was perfect for us as we were working and it was a great place to come home to in the evening. We highly recommend staying there and we would definitely return if we make it back to Sydney.
Lynn was a great communicator & her instructions to find the house were very clear. Our experience in Newtown was lovely. We were very comfortable & as Interior Designers were particularly impressed with Lynn's quirky/cool taste. The house is also close to public transport & lovely restaurants and shopping. (not too close to be noisy though). We felt like we had all of the privacy we needed although Lynn was always available to help. Overall a really good choice to stay with Lynn & we would certainly be happy to stay there again for business or pleasure.

About the Host, Lynn
I'm an illustrator, graphic designer, Airbnb host, mother of four wonderful adult kids + one fabulous daughter-in-law, and the proud owner of a beautiful, light-filled apartment which was once a church and has now been converted into 3 apartments.
Sharing my home with Airbnb guests is one of the best things I've ever done. It's given me connections with many amazing people. I've found that the kind of people who choose Airbnb are adventurous, friendly, warm, intelligent, curious and often have fascinating stories to tell about their own lives.
When I travel, I stay at Airbnb places and each place I've chosen has been unique, full of character and has offered so much more than a stark and sterile hotel room. Meeting my hosts has been another benefit - they are all wonderful people.
I'm just back from a trip to Japan, the UK, Spain and Bali. I stayed in eleven fantastic and diverse Airbnb properties, and met some wonderful hosts and their families and friends.
Now I have a Lagotto puppy Mucca who shares my space downstairs. She is very friendly and lovable and is classified as 'hypoallergenic' so should not be a problem for guests with allergies.
