You'll love Pennysworth's ambiance of re-purposed post & beam barn/house, the large stone terrace, indoor and outdoor fireplaces, & huge firepit with an endless supply of wood. There is a huge open kitchen that can easily accommodate multiple chefs. The 2 bedrooms & loft combined can sleep up to 8. Thistledown Farm's location offers fresh & saltwater activities, walking preserves all on our dead-end road. It's a quiet getaway, yet close to all there is to do in mid-coast Maine.

The space
The massive granite fireplace, cathedral peaked ceilings, floor-to-ceiling windows, spacious kitchen and living room, private guest rooms, loft, and private bathroom will make your stay memorable. The reconstructed 1850's dairy barn home features beautiful wide-planked walls and floors, antique furnishings, and old farm decor at every turn. You'll enjoy the rustic elegance in cozy comfort.

Your host Penny shares a portion of the space, however, she spends as much time as she can elsewhere. Penny has a private, self-contained suite off the first floor. Other than her personal suite, the downstairs is an open configuration. When in the common area, she spends time in her office right off the living room. Guests have the entire upstairs to themselves. The whole space is very large and airy.

Where you’ll be

Waldoboro, Maine, United States

Our neighborhood, if you want to call it that, is a 3 mile long dead-end road that runs right down the middle of our own little peninsula. It juts off the much larger and popular Pemiquid Peninsula here in mid-coast Maine. The residents are a mix of year-rounders and summer people.

We are blessed with saltwater swimming, kayaking and boating as well as one of the best little freshwater swimming holes you will ever experience. Well hidden and practically unknown, its granite cliffs are great for jumping off or use giant blocks for stepping in. Two land trust preserves on our road add to the surrounding natural beauty. Several neighbors offer occasional Yoga classes. An old schoolhouse/community center and 1800's seasonal church sometimes offer public suppers and concerts.

I am an inveterate collector of antiques and unique old barn finds. As a self-taught designer, I love to create structures, furniture, and what have you, from my years of collecting. When I retired, I designed and built my farm on the Dutch Neck peninsula located in mid-coast Maine where I host guests. It is a group of 1850's hand-hewn post and beam barns and sheds, one of which is my home. Adding a yurt and two safari tents I also designed a small quiet oasis in the woods on my property where one can go glamping – camping with style, and yet have access to all there is to see and do nearby in this beautiful part of the world. Finally, I am now making a private preserve where guests can walk through deep evergreen woods or kayak from the shores of a hidden cove and paddle to the sea. Come join us!
