Interaction with Guests
The apartment is attached to our home but you do have your own front door so your privacy is assured.
I have always lived in Galway and know our lovely seaside city & surrounding areas very well. I am generally on hand if you need any help or advice & love to chat, but am happy to leave you to your own devices if you would prefer not to be interrupted!
Our home is in a peaceful, leafy and well-maintained suburb of Galway City. We have great neighbours and there is a real sense of safety and community. I love living a little bit away from the hustle & bustle of the "city centre" and yet we're just a 5-minute car or bus ride into town, maybe 10 minutes if the traffic is heavy.
Salthill is also close by: Salthill (our "golden mile") is another suburb of Galway City. When the weather is fine this beautiful award-winning beach is packed with sun worshippers, swimmers and ice-cream vans!
Sun shining or not, it is also where hundreds if not thousands of Galwegians head to on a year-round daily basis to walk "The Prom".....the longest promenade in all of Ireland.
At the end of the prom you will see the Blackrock diving tower, which at this stage has acquired iconic status for many.
But do remember: if you do walk the prom you MUST kick the wall at Blackrock before turning back....its tradition!
A walk to either the beach or the city will take you approx 20-25 minutes from the apartment.
If you are travelling without a car, you will find the bus-stop for the number 411 "Red Bus" is literally 1 mins walk from the apartment, the service runs every 30 mins from early til late and will take you into the centre of Galway City at a cost of €2.10. You need to have the exact fare ready for the driver.
Alternatively, a taxi will cost €8-10.
If you have just arrived in Galway by bus or train & need to get to my place, you'll find the stop for the 411 bus at the top of Eyre Square, sortof under the clock on the Bank of Ireland building. This bus runs every 15 minutes past the hour, and 15 minutes to. Ask the driver to let you off at the stop for Cruachan Park (pronounced crew-cawn) and when you get into the estate take the second turn right & I'm the second house on the right.
If you DO have a car, please note you may park in the driveway directly in front of the apartment. Depending on traffic it is a 5-minute drive to the city or to the beach at Salthill.
If you are a cyclist & have left your bike at home its worth noting that the "Coca-Cola Zero" bikes scheme was launched in Galway recently. This initial phase of the programme has introduced 195 brand new bikes to Galway, distributed through 19 bike stations dotted around the city. A really great, inexpensive way of getting around and seeing more than you might do on foot!
Other Things to Note
There are a number of supermarkets and pharmacies within easy reach.
If you feel like a quiet drink without having to head back into the city, the Library Bar in the Glenoaks Hotel is just a 5-minute walk away.
Galway City itself is home to a host of award-winning restaurants serving a huge range of different cuisines. I'll be happy to guide you to the best "tried & tested" eateries:)
Well, you are on your holidays so I'll try and keep this one short...;)
Earliest check-in time is 3pm & latest check-out is 11.00am.
The apartment accomodates 2 comfortably: no other overnight guests please!
My home is a smoke-free zone and so please do not smoke in the apartment: there is a door from the bedroom into the back into the garden for the addicts among you!
No pets allowed.
Please, please note, if you intend using a hair dye or bleach treatment while you're here, please don't use the towels provided...just ask me & I'll be happy to provide an extra towel suitable for that purpose :)
Other than that, relax....after all, you're on your holidays!!
Thank you :)
Liz was so great! She was very kind and welcomed us with cookies and milk. Her apartment was fantastic! It had everything we needed, and we felt at home. Bed/bathroom were great- very clean and comfortable. The breakfasts she provided included fresh ripe fruit and the best scones! We enjoyed the walk into town and the ease of finding her place after a few Guinness at the pubs!
Liz's communication with us prior to and throughout our stay was outstanding. She made us feel very welcome, with great advice and information for our time in Galway. The flat was spacious and very well appointed for comfort and safety. We very much appreciated the extent and quality of the breakfast provisions. The location is easy reach of a 10 minute bus ride to the City Centre or a 35-40 minute walk. Highly recommended.
Although my girlfriend and I only stayed for one night, we both found Liz and her apartment very welcoming. Liz was an amazing host who answered our many questions. We sadly had to leave earlier than we had planned so we couldn't stay for the lovely breakfast she provided us, but we did get to enjoy her scones on our bus out of Galway.
We enjoyed the privacy and coziness of the apartment. It was just as we had hoped when we found the listing online and my only wish was that we could have stayed longer.
WE HAD A VERY GOOD TIME AT LIZ HER B&B. QUIET AND GOOD NEIGBOORHOOD A FEW KILOETERS OUT OF TOWN. YOU CAN TAKE THE BUS (DOESN'T GO VERY OFTEN IN THE EVENING) TO THE CENTRE BUT WE EXPERIENCED A TAXI COST ONLY 7 EURO. THE APARTMENT IS VERY GOOD, COMPLETE AND CLEAN. YOU GET A LOT OF PRIVACY FROM LIZ AND THE BREAKFAST IS GOOD.
About the Host, Liz
I was born in Galway, and have a large family with just the youngest 2 still living at home. I love travelling to new places and meeting new people, and Galway city in itself is a great place to get out and about and meet people as there is (nearly!) always a gathering or festival of some description taking place! I love to cook and find it therapeutic: sharing a good meal with family & friends has to be one of life's great pleasures :-)
Dunnes Stores has a great selection of food, toiletries & clothing. You'll find whatever you need here & its open late every evening. In the same complex you will find a pharmacy, Next clothing etc.
At the end of "Salthill Prom" (longest promenade in Ireland btw!) you'll find Blackrock: it has become something of a legendary place to swim, but the top diving board is not for the faint-hearted!
