The Space

Bright, comfortable, compact and cosy 1-bedroomed apartment with own bathroom, living-room with kitchenette, off-street parking & cable tv.
There is free (speedy!) wi-fi.
The apartment is attached to our home but has its own independent entrance ensuring your privacy, and we are just next door should you need help with anything, or advice on interesting places to visit & good local places to eat.

The living room has comfy leather furniture & a large flatscreen LCD TV with lots of channels and a dvd player, so if you're feeling a little tired after all your sight-seeing why not just sit and relax for a while....choose a dvd or a book from the collection available & recharge your batteries!
There are also lots of tourist information pamphlets & maps provided, to help you get the best out of your visit to Galway.

The bright and comfy bedroom has a double orthopaedic bed which is (I am told!) extremely comfortable, ensuring you get a good nights sleep after your travels & wake up feeling rested and refreshed.
The electric shower in the en-suite bathroom ensures a constant, plentiful supply of hot water. Shampoo & shower gel are provided so you don't need to bring these with you:)
All towels and bed linen are provided and the bed will be freshly made and ready for you when you arrive.
In the wardrobe you will find a hairdryer, iron & ironing board for your use.

The small kitchen area is equipped with a microwave, fridge with small freezer, kettle and toaster, crockery, cutlery and glasses: everything you need to prepare simple meals. Our tap water is perfectly safe to drink.
* Please note there is no hot plate or other oven.
**As there is a charge for shopping bags in Ireland, you will find a supply of re-usable shopping bags in the kitchen cupboard for your convenience.

I love to bake and make fresh homemade bread and scones every morning, and enjoy serving my guests with a breakfast tray delivered to their door. You just put the kettle on & make your tea and coffee (supplied) and I will drop the tray over to you at a time that suits. Included is fresh juice, butter, preserves, cheese & fresh fruit.
If you would prefer not to be disturbed, that is not a problem: just let me know before you arrive & I will make sure your fridge is stocked with your breakfast essentials before you arrive, so there's no need to rush off to the supermarket!

Guest Access

The apartment is your private space for you to enjoy for the duration of your stay.
You are welcome to sit out in our sunny and secluded back garden, weather permitting of course!
If travelling by car, you are welcome to park in our driveway, directly in front of the apartment.

If you need to do some laundry that can be arranged for you at a cost of €10 per load, for a wash & dry.
If you prefer to do your own, there is a clothesline in the back garden where you can hang your laundry out to dry: you will find an iron & an ironing board in the wardrobe in the bedroom.

Interaction with Guests

The apartment is attached to our home but you do have your own front door so your privacy is assured.
I have always lived in Galway and know our lovely seaside city & surrounding areas very well. I am generally on hand if you need any help or advice & love to chat, but am happy to leave you to your own devices if you would prefer not to be interrupted!

The Neighborhood

Our home is in a peaceful, leafy and well-maintained suburb of Galway City. We have great neighbours and there is a real sense of safety and community. I love living a little bit away from the hustle & bustle of the "city centre" and yet we're just a 5-minute car or bus ride into town, maybe 10 minutes if the traffic is heavy.

Salthill is also close by: Salthill (our "golden mile") is another suburb of Galway City. When the weather is fine this beautiful award-winning beach is packed with sun worshippers, swimmers and ice-cream vans!
Sun shining or not, it is also where hundreds if not thousands of Galwegians head to on a year-round daily basis to walk "The Prom".....the longest promenade in all of Ireland.
At the end of the prom you will see the Blackrock diving tower, which at this stage has acquired iconic status for many.
But do remember: if you do walk the prom you MUST kick the wall at Blackrock before turning back....its tradition!

A walk to either the beach or the city will take you approx 20-25 minutes from the apartment.

Getting Around

If you are travelling without a car, you will find the bus-stop for the number 411 "Red Bus" is literally 1 mins walk from the apartment, the service runs every 30 mins from early til late and will take you into the centre of Galway City at a cost of €2.10. You need to have the exact fare ready for the driver.
Alternatively, a taxi will cost €8-10.

If you have just arrived in Galway by bus or train & need to get to my place, you'll find the stop for the 411 bus at the top of Eyre Square, more or less under the clock on the Bank of Ireland building. This bus runs every 15 minutes past the hour, and 15 minutes to. Ask the driver to let you off at the stop for Cruachan Park (pronounced crew-cawn) and when you get into the estate take the second turn right & I'm the second house on the right.

If you DO have a car, please note you may park in the driveway directly in front of the apartment. Depending on traffic it is a 5-minute drive to the city or to the beach at Salthill.

If you are a cyclist & have left your bike at home its worth noting that the "Coca-Cola Zero" bikes scheme was launched in Galway towards the end of 2014. This initial phase of the programme has introduced 195 brand new bikes to Galway, distributed through 19 bike stations dotted around the city. A really great, inexpensive way of getting around and seeing more than you might do on foot!

Other Things to Note

There are a number of supermarkets and pharmacies within easy reach.
If you feel like a quiet drink without having to head back into the city, the Library Bar in the Glenoaks Hotel is just a 5-minute walk away.
Galway City itself is home to a host of award-winning restaurants serving a huge range of different cuisines. I'll be happy to guide you to the best "tried & tested" eateries:)
