Interaction with Guests
The apartment is attached to our home but you do have your own front door so your privacy is assured.
I have always lived in Galway and know our lovely seaside city & surrounding areas very well. I am generally on hand if you need any help or advice & I love to chat, but am equally happy to leave you to your own devices if you're craving a bit of peace & quiet!
Our home is in a peaceful, leafy and well-maintained suburb of Galway City. We have great neighbours and there is a real sense of safety and community. I love living a little bit away from the hustle & bustle of the "city centre" and yet we're just a 5-minute car or bus ride into town, 10 minutes if the traffic is heavy.
If you feel like having a quiet drink in the evening without having to head back into the city, the Library Bar in the Glenoaks Hotel is just a 5-minute walk away.
There are also a number of supermarkets and pharmacies within easy reach.
Salthill is also close by: Salthill (our "golden mile") is another suburb of Galway City. When the weather is fine this beautiful award-winning beach is packed with sun worshippers, swimmers and ice-cream vans!
Sun shining or not, it is also where hundreds if not thousands of Galwegians head to on a year-round daily basis to walk "The Prom".....the longest promenade in all of Ireland.
At the end of the prom you will see the Blackrock diving tower, which at this stage has acquired iconic status for many.
But do remember: if you do walk the prom you MUST kick the wall at Blackrock before turning back....its tradition!
A walk to either the beach or the city will take you approx 20-25 minutes from the apartment.
If you are travelling without a car, you will find the bus-stop for the number 411 "Red Bus" is literally 1 mins walk from the apartment, the service runs every 30 mins from early til late and will take you into the centre of Galway City at a cost of €2.10. You need to have the exact fare ready for the driver.
Alternatively, a taxi will cost €8-10.
If you have just arrived in Galway by bus or train & need to get to my place, you'll find the stop for the 411 bus at the top of Eyre Square, more or less under the clock on the Bank of Ireland building. This bus runs every 15 minutes past the hour, and 15 minutes to. Ask the driver to let you off at the stop for Cruachan Park (pronounced crew-cawn) and when you get into the estate take the second turn right & I'm the second house on the right.
If you DO have a car, please note you may park in the driveway directly in front of the apartment. Depending on traffic it is a 5-minute drive to the city or to the beach at Salthill.
If you are a cyclist & have left your bike at home its worth noting that the "Coca-Cola Zero" bikes scheme was launched in Galway towards the end of 2014. This initial phase of the programme has introduced 195 brand new bikes to Galway, distributed through 19 bike stations dotted around the city. A really great, inexpensive way of getting around and seeing more than you might do on foot!
Other Things to Note
Galway, known as "The City of The Tribes" is a buzzing cosmopolitan city on Ireland's western seaboard.
It is also known as "The Gateway to Connemara" and makes a great base from which to head further west to explore the raw, natural beauty of Connemara or alternatively head south a little to witness the splendour of the Cliffs of Moher.
If you're a fan of festivals, you just have to put Galway on your list of "must see" places. With a bit of advance planning you can enjoy
The Food Festival in March,
Cuirt Literary Festival in April,
Galway Arts Festival in July, followed by our
Horse Racing Festival at the end of July/early August,
rounded of by no less than 2 Oyster Festivals in September.
Galway is also home to a host of award-winning restaurants serving a huge range of different cuisines, all the way from delicious but inexpensive fresh fish with homemade fries courtesy of Hooked on Henry Street, to our 2 Michelin starred restaurants for that extra-special occasion: Loam and Aniar.
For brunch, you'll find it hard to beat the quality of the fantastic food served in The Kitchen, which is housed in the beautiful Museum building, right beside our historic Spanish Arch.
I'll be happy to guide you to the best "tried & tested" eateries & help with reservations if necessary:)
Well, you are on your holidays so I'll try and keep this one short...;)
Earliest check-in time is 3pm & latest check-out is 11.00am.
The apartment accomodates 2 comfortably: no other overnight guests please!
My home is a smoke-free zone. I ask you please: do not smoke in the apartment. If you really must have a smoke there is a door from the bedroom into the back garden to facilitate you!
Please, please, if you intend using a hair dye/bleach treatment while you're here, I ask you not to use the towels provided...just ask me & I'll be happy to provide an extra towel suitable for that purpose :)
Finally, I know holidays can be expensive and so, in an effort to keep booking fees down for our guests, you may have noticed that I don't charge a cleaning fee. In return, I ask you to treat the place as if it were your own: on departure it is much appreciated if you tie up your refuse bags, wash up your dishes & generally leave the place reasonably neat & tidy.
Other than that, relax....after all, you're on your holidays!!
Thank you. I'm looking forward to meeting you :)
