The Space
Discover Martin House, a thoughtfully reimagined farmhouse sanctuary designed for a restorative escape. Set on a private acre, this property offers a unique blend of early 1900s charm and contemporary, modern living. The synergy of the iconic, historic barn and the newly constructed main house creates a space that is at once tranquil and full of life.
Inside, the home is an exercise in classic, uncluttered style. The chef-ready kitchen, featuring a large farmhouse sink, new appliances, and a gas cooktop, is designed for creating nourishing meals. The space comfortably sleeps six, offering a serene queen bedroom with a private soaking tub, a guest room with two twin beds, and a sun-drenched open loft with a daybed and trundle. The main floor bathroom features a large, rejuvenating shower.
The Grounds
Step outside to your personal acre of serenity. The grounds feature an aromatic flower garden and a fire circle designed for intimate, evening conversations under the stars. For moments of play and connection, a detached private game room offers a bespoke recreational space. Your stay includes seamless, open access to the TART trail, inviting you to start a morning run or take a scenic bike ride just steps from your door.
The Experience
While the property feels like a private world, it is perfectly positioned just a fifteen-minute drive from the curated shops, artisanal restaurants, and theaters of downtown Traverse City. Martin House provides year-round access to the best of Northern Michigan’s intentional lifestyle—from sun-drenched shores to snow-covered slopes.
Within a five-mile radius, you can curate your own wellness journey: find your center at a local lavender farm, sip organic wines at a nearby vineyard, gather hand-picked berries, or indulge in cider and doughnuts from a local orchard. This is more than a stay—it's a chance to unwind, connect, and nourish your senses.
Guest access
When renting Martin House you have access to the entire property, except the interior of the barn and the small Michigan basement.

Please leave house in general condition that you found it.
-Not leaving any dirty dishes
-Wiping down counters and putting any items you may have taken out back where you found them
-Closing and locking all doors & windows
-Turning off all lights
-Place all dirty towels in bathroom on the main level
-Place dirty linens in laundry room
-Put trash from your stay in waste bin behind barn
Trash & Recycling Instructions:
Please use white bags (under the sink) for trash. For recycling use white crate under sink for recycling of all plastic, glass and cans, please rise out before placing in crate.
Other Notes:
-We supply bed linens and bathroom towels only. Please bring any beach towels. Linens and bath towels are not to be removed from property.
-Firewood for the fire pits is available down the road
(for a small fee) and sometimes at the the head of the trail near the home. Please replace any wood that you use for the next guests.
Pets:
No pets allowed at this time.
Smoking:
There is no smoking permitted on either of the properties. If you must smoke please do outside and dispose of butts properly. An additional cleaning fee of $300 will be charged for any smoking inside the home.
Maximum Number of Guests:
As listed in rental listing each home houses 6 guests comfortably. Any additional guest need to be pre approved and are an additional $25 per night/per person. These are old homes and were built for a small family. Please respect our sewage situation.

Neighborhood highlights
Martin House sits directly on the Leelanau Trail (Tart Trail) and minutes from Cedar Lake, DeYoung Natural Area, and South Lake Leelanau. Be sure to bring your bikes and helmets because you are a 4 mile bike ride from downtown Traverse City. If you decide to head North on the trail you will arrive in Suttons Bay in no time. A public boat launch is located within 2 miles both North and South of the house. Be sure to pick up fire wood at one of the roadside stands because we have a lovely outdoor fire pit ready for use.
