About This Listing
Wonderful Evanston farmhouse with main floor bedroom and full bath & an upstairs bedroom. Walk to downtown Evanston, catch either train to the city in under 30 min, & enjoy ultimate convenience in a luxury setting with short walk to NU or the lake.
My welcoming Evanston farmhouse is extremely comfy and as convenient as it gets. Walk less than a mile to the lakefront, a few blocks to either train going downtown and blocks to movie theatre, great restaurants and bars, It's also a skip away from Northwestern University and a great base camp when visiting the school. A front sunroom and a large back deck make the living space even bigger.
This main floor bedroom has a full private bath attached, along with an closet. Guest have full access to the living room, kitchen, dining room front sun porch and back deck. The backyard is quite spacious, as well and bright, sunny and fully furnished for your use. If you have other friends or family members, be sure to see the upstairs room, listed under Amazing Evanston Farmhouse, in case you need extra room. It's great for families or larger groups. There's also a private bathroom upstairs, down the hallway from this room.
Interaction with Guests
I'm an avid cook and will be thrilled to prepare a delicious breakfast for my guests each morning. I'm a veteran food and wine critic here in Chicago so will have lots of info to share with you on great places to go both in Evanston and the city. I live upstairs but share the kitchen with guest. Otherwise, you have quite a bit of privacy and an incredible space to relax and enjoy.
The downtown Evanston neighborhood is full of life, with bookstores, several gyms for workouts and lots of dining options. This is all a short 1/2 mile from my home. For those visiting NU, the house is just over a mile from campus, with a train stop 5 blocks away that takes you into the heart of campus.
We are located 1/2 mile from both trains; the "el" and the Metra Davis Street stop. There's also the Pace bus, which leaves Davis and goes to O'hare for under $2.00. You can find that schedule online. It take just about one hour, with the stops, but sure is easy and relatively inexpensive, compared to a $38 cab ride.
Other Things to Note
There are two separate bedrooms for rent- this is the main floor room with private bath attached. If you don't want to lug your computer, there's a large touchscreen with wireless keyboard in the room which you are welcome to use with my WiFi. I have two cats -- just an FYI. My backyard garden is very relaxing to lounge in, for those that seek a bit of an outdoor retreat while in the city.
I expect my guest to treat my home as they would their own, with respect, courtesy and cleanliness. I very much welcome guests in my home and hope the my friendly and "tour guide" nature will make you feel at ease, like a home away from home. I don't allow smoking indoors. Pet's are allowed, within reason.
Wonderful century old renovated farmhouse conveniently located in Evanston, with blooming perennial garden in front.
My husband and I had a wonderful stay in Evanston in Laura's spacious and comfortable home. She is a gracious and welcoming host and went well beyond the call of duty by offering us a delicious gourmet breakfast. The comfortable guest room has an attached bath and is on the first floor so it feels very private. Laura made sure we felt comfortable using her spacious deck and living areas as well. She is a knowledgeable host who made recommendations for area restaurants ( she is a food writer!). The area isan easy walk to Northwestern University and to downtown Evanston. I highly recommend a stay in this lovely home.
Laura was a very welcoming and kind host. She made sure I feel comfortable, prepared brakefast in the morning, and even took the time to show me around on my first day.
The room is exactly as described, and there's a lot of privacy for guests. The neighborhood is really nice and peaceful, and is 5-7 minutes walk from downtown Evanston and about 10-20 minutes walk from Northwesterm University (depending on the part of university you want to get to). I would recommend anyone to stay at Laura's place.
Although we did not get to meet Laura during our stay, she left instructions all over the house to explain the details, which made it a lot more convenient for us to stay there. The description was clear. The house was nice with a large living and dining area. She was nice enough to fill the fridge with breakfast food. The neighborhood was very residential, so quiet and peaceful. Overall, it was a pleasant stay.
I had a great stay at Laura's house. It was extremely spacious, had lots of light, and was conveniently located. Laura wasn't able to be there during my stay but she still made me feel extremely welcome with post it notes for everything I might have a question on (plus breakfast food which came in handy).
I'd definitely recommend staying at Laura's.
Laura was there waiting for us when we arrived. She was really helpful and answered all of our questions about where to shop locally. The room was bright and clean. The house was very large so we had lots of privacy. Breakfast was delicious and cooked to order. Coffee was fresh brewed. The neighborhood was very nice, and felt very safe. It was about a 10 minute walk to the center of town and to NWU campus. There was plenty of parking.

About the Host, Laura
Food and Wine journalist from Chicago who loves introducing small groups of friends to the wonderful area of food, wine and Chicago. I like to cook with and for my friends and guests. I'm a native Chicagoan and know the street, directions, restaurants, museums and events in fine details. I enjoy helping people find their way around and feel comfortable in my area. Love love meeting new people and sharing stories over food and wine, especially some fresh produce from my garden, a nice artisan cheese and a delish glass of Rose or sparkling wine.
