Wonderful Evanston farmhouse with main floor bedroom and full bath & an upstairs bedroom. Walk to downtown Evanston, catch either train to the city in under 30 min, & enjoy ultimate convenience in a luxury setting with short walk to NU or the lake.

The Space

My welcoming Evanston farmhouse is extremely comfy and as convenient as it gets. Walk less than a mile to the lakefront, a few blocks to either train going downtown and blocks to movie theatre, great restaurants and bars, It's also a skip away from Northwestern University and a great base camp when visiting the school. A front sunroom and a large back deck make the living space even bigger.

Guest Access

This main floor bedroom has a full private bath attached, along with an closet. Guest have full access to the living room, kitchen, dining room front sun porch and back deck. The backyard is quite spacious, as well and bright, sunny and fully furnished for your use. If you have other friends or family members, be sure to see the upstairs room, listed under Amazing Evanston Farmhouse, in case you need extra room. It's great for families or larger groups. There's also a private bathroom upstairs, down the hallway from this room.

Interaction with Guests

I'm an avid cook and will be thrilled to prepare a delicious breakfast for my guests each morning. I'm a veteran food and wine critic here in Chicago so will have lots of info to share with you on great places to go both in Evanston and the city. I live upstairs but share the kitchen with guest. Otherwise, you have quite a bit of privacy and an incredible space to relax and enjoy.

The Neighborhood

The downtown Evanston neighborhood is full of life, with bookstores, several gyms for workouts and lots of dining options. This is all a short 1/2 mile from my home. For those visiting NU, the house is just over a mile from campus, with a train stop 5 blocks away that takes you into the heart of campus.

Getting around

We are located 1/2 mile from both trains; the "el" and the Metra Davis Street stop. There's also the Pace bus, which leaves Davis and goes to O'hare for under $2.00. You can find that schedule online. It take just about one hour, with the stops, but sure is easy and relatively inexpensive, compared to a $38 cab ride.

Other Things to Note

There are two separate bedrooms for rent- this is the main floor room with private bath attached. If you don't want to lug your computer, there's a large touchscreen with wireless keyboard in the room which you are welcome to use with my WiFi. I have two cats -- just an FYI. My backyard garden is very relaxing to lounge in, for those that seek a bit of an outdoor retreat while in the city.

  • My wife and daughter enjoyed a lot their 2-week bed-and-bike stay. Laura was very considerate and knowledgeable hostess, shared many tips and cats:) Morning bike to NW University was one of the favorite activities and a great way to start a day. We would totally recommend it.

  • Laura is a gracious and generous hostess who cooks delectable breakfasts. Comfy, cozy room and bath in a sprawling farm-style house with large, open common spaces in an historic turn of the century Evanston neighborhood proximate to Evanston's downtown, NWU, and Chicago transportation. Much enjoyed our stay.

Thanks so much again, Geff for your help and great advice on the room. I made all of the changes and even placed the bed in a different position, on the r-side wall, after removing the furniture, and the room feel so much more spacious. I greatly appreciate all of your suggestions and the help with hooks, the closet and everything. best to you both and hope to see you again one day! Laura

  • I spent 6 nights with Laura in her lovely home located close to Northwestern University and downtown Evanston. For the first four nights, my husband stayed with me--and for an extended stay I have to say that the room and adjoining bath were a bit too small for the two of us. It was perfectly adequate when it was just me. Laura made delicious hot breakfasts throughout our stay and let us do laundry. We had the use of her spacious front room, and were able to sit out on her deck overlooking the lush garden. The WiFi signal was strong, and I was able to attend class at a Dharma yoga studio just a block from the house. Overall, a very nice place to stay when visiting Evanston: Thank you, Laura!

  • I stayed at Laura's Evanston Farmhouse for two nights. Laura was a gracious and attentive host. Her property is spacious, clean, and very close to downtown Evanston and Northwestern U.

I will definitely seek to stay at her place when I visit Evanston again.

  • Laura was perfectly attentive to our needs from the moment we arrived when her friend Scott earned Hero points helping Shirley up the stairs into the house in bitter cold, to the 'foodie' exquisite omelette and artisan toast she whipped up at the last moment before our departure. On our middle day we got to enjoy the whole house, an amazing portmanteau of 100 year old farmhouse and 30' by 30' open design kitchen dining living space with tech/gaming center. Laura is a food and wine writer, so it isn't just a hobby for her to create a 'living experience' for people. She is in that top tier of Airbnb's founders' RISD sensibility, where the finest experiences of affiliation and sensual refinement extend. Imagine just a little bit of wine country in the north suburbs of Chicago!

  • I really enjoyed my stay so very much. The location is great and central to everything, yet pleasantly tucked away. The room I stayed in was perfect for me, the private bathroom and access the dining room, sitting room and kitchen was great! A little breakfast in the morning that was always laid out for me was the perfect way to get started. Great and very helpful host. I will stay here again when I return. I look forward to visiting again!

  • Laura was an excellent, friendly, helpful and generous hostess. She fixed a delicious breakfast every morning from gourmet egg dishes to outstanding marble coffee cakes. She also gave us the run of the house, including the kitchen, which made out stay in Chicago so much more affordable. The beds are comfortable and well kept. I look forward to going back some day.

  • My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed our two night stay at Laura's farmhouse while in Evanston for a reunion visit to NU. Conveniently located near trains and campus (10-15 minute walk to campus), the house is comfortable and inviting and Laura is a wonderful and welcoming host. Even before we arrived she provided perfect restaurant recommendations for our pre-reunion stay in Chicago. Upon arrival, she met us and gave us a tour of the house and our room, inviting us to also make use of the living room, porch and backyard deck. She made two delightful breakfasts, accommodating our departure schedules, and even set out a bottle of wine and wine glasses for us. We felt right at home during our stay and truly appreciated Laura's hospitality.
