About this listing
We own and live in a large, bright and airy 3-bedroom apartment with our pup, Foxxy, and love hosting when we're in town. We have a great spare bedroom and love to chat with guests about this wonderful city!
the bright and sunny spare bedroom...your room! - complete with a comfy, queen-sized bed, side tables and TV
HOME: We own and live in a large, bright and airy 3-bedroom apartment which is the bottom floor of our 4 unit house. We have two spare bedrooms for guests (we list one because one is currently an office for which we can provide a large, thick futon mattress), a great kitchen, a large living room, large dining room, a large shared bathroom, laundry, back porch, and a backyard. The spare bedroom has a new queen-sized bed along with some Indian and Southeast Asian inspired decor from some of our travels. We will provide towels and all the necessities.
DOG: We have one other roommate, our lab-mix pup - Foxxy Brown Cleopatra. She's a super sweet and well-mannered dog that we treat as another member of our family. She will most likely be at home (sleeping) during the weekdays when we leave for work. During the evenings, she spends her time relaxing with us :)
REQUESTING A ROOM: we ask that if you request a space from us, please have a filled out profile (with a picture) and your phone number and 'offline id' verified. Having friends and/or references is great as well.
OTHER SPACE: The kitchen is fully stocked (we like to cook) and we always have some local goodies in the cupboards and fridge to offer guests. As long as you clean, you are welcome to cook!
Interaction with Guests
ARRIVAL/DEPARTURE: We ask that guests not arrive after 10pm so that we have time to show you around the house and to relax before we hit the hay. Also, unless we have enough notice, check in will generally be after 5pm on weekdays (weekends can be more flexible). During weekdays, we generally leave the house around 8am for the workday but your departure can be flexible as long as you leave the key here when you leave.
NEIGHBORHOOD: Our home is in the Oakdale neighborhood of Portland, which is right near the University of Southern Maine (USM) campus. We're about a 15 minute walk to Longfellow Square (lots of great restaurants, bars, music) and about a 25-30 walk to Old Port (the 'heart' and tourist center of the city). Uber is also a good transport option. It's a nice and quiet neighborhood just off the peninsula with lots of trees lining the streets and easy spots to park! Deering Park is just a few minutes walk from our house, where you can take a quick stroll. We are also a 10 minute walk from the Back Cove 3.5 mile trail, a great spot for a walk/bike/jog.
We can recommend great restaurants, bars, or other activities. There is also a 'basket of informational goodies' to give you some maps and ideas.
TRANSPORTATION: There are some local bus routes that will take you nearby to our place. If a short ride is needed for a pick up / drop-off (and we are available), we are more than willing to provide a ride.
NO SMOKING: No smoking in the house - however, you are able to smoke on the front porch or back yard.
About the Host, Lauren And Joe
ABOUT US!: My husband, Joe, and I are an easy-going and active couple - always seeking out new adventures but also relish the time we get to spend in our comfy abode. We have always had the desire to travel (and to talk to people about traveling!), ever since we met each other nearly 10 years ago in Ireland while studying abroad. Ireland sparked our travel bug and we have been lucky to venture to a number of places since then. Our biggest travel stint was from April 2010 to December 2011 when we took off from our jobs and traveled around Latin America, Indonesia, New Zealand and the Western U.S. AirBnB doesn't allow outside websites to be listed here...so...if you'd like to check out our blog...it's at ...

Other than travel, we're always looking for a good place to kayak, hike, camp, etc. We always enjoy a decent brew or a good glass of wine, and love all company, including pets and our awesome pup, Foxxy Brown Cleopatra. Our vision is to start up our own B&B/brew pub near Sebago Lake or along a river on the coast of Maine.
We're kind of music junkies...love having music around us at all times and make it to many a concert in the summer time. In a nutshell, we like good music that isn't death metal or pop country. Some favorites: the band, wilco, pearl jam, radiohead, beck, ben harper, tom petty, my morning jacket, 311, avett brothers, cake...
Most importantly, we try to live by the words of Vonnegut: "we are here on earth to fart around. don't let anybody tell you different"
OUR SCHEDULE: we both work the 9 to 5 during the week but have somewhat flexible hours. weekdays we get to bed around 11pm and we wake up early (depending on the day, either 630 or 530am).
We have a car if a short ride is needed - although public transport is decent enough around the city.
