AIR stands for "Artist Inn Residency" and a tropical homestay. We offer living & working space for any kind of creatives, yogis, and appreciative human beings!

Location? In deep nature. BUT, only 3 minutes away from town by scooter/motorbike. The rooms are designed with lots of love, complete with large tables for you to work on.

Feel free to have a walk through the neighboring rice paddies and soak up some inspirations for your next project when you need a break, and let the journey unfolds!

The space
Note: Long-term stays (7 days or longer) are preferred to keep the rotation as slow as possible. This enables people to build a community with less ever-changing dynamics. We accept short-term bookings for the periods in between longer stays though, but you just have to book max. 2 weeks beforehand.

The house is located next to a river, near the rice paddies, close to the town center. By walking, around 15-20 minutes walk. By scooter, 3-5 minutes!

The rooms we have are a mixture of New York warehouse, Berlin's rawness, and the richness of Balinese materials plus its ability to integrate with nature. You will be surrounded with red bricks, custom cement tiles, steel frame windows, teak wood and lots of greens framed by your windows and doors.

This room in particular is very cozy, tucked at our lower compound and the level of comfort here is as delicious as a perfect coffee with a touch of morning dew! Also carefully designed with attention to detail and features very large steel frame windows and original artworks from the artists who took their residencies here. You will have a large media center (fancy word for TV because we don't have access to a real TV channel) with carefully curated documentaries and films to keep you inspired on rainy days. The sound of the jungle and a gentle river stream will be surrounding you as well as a bamboo forest right in front of your door.

Although just a heads up, this room does have a dehumidifier and called the "Riverview" for a reason. The level of humidity in this room is slightly higher than the other rooms we have. With that said, do think carefully about how important humidity is for you. The bathroom roof is little bit leaking but we will fix it in low season. Be realistic about it and check our other listings if you are not able to compromise :)

You will also have a 240cm wide table to work on. If the table is not big enough and you need an extra studio space for an art project, then you will have to apply for it with a PDF of your portfolio and a proposal of what kind of project would you like to achieve. This is only possible for long-term stays in the duration of 2 weeks or longer.

Guest access
We have a bonfire space to host a communal dinner if necessary, a yoga shala with all types of bells, and a small river if you ever want to learn how to fish with Wayan :)

Our brick Sauna cube and cold water Jacuzzi are currently **not working**. But you can always climb above the Sauna cube (since that’s why we installed a sturdy ladder next to its door) to see the whole view of the river and the bamboo forest! Meditating above it can also be a great experience but don’t forget to bring a mat to sit on since you know, nature ;)

We also have a little kitchen upstairs that you can cook easy recipes on or to boil your Indomie (or any instant/cup noodle you’ll prefer).

Oh and water cooler! We do have a water cooler nearby our little kitchen so save your plastic bottles and fill it up upstairs!

Other things to note
***PLEASE READ THIS CAREFULLY***
(really tho, don’t skip this part for your own good)

Our residency is tucked deep in an alley near a panoramic rice fields, so the last 400-500 meters are only reachable via motorbike/scooter or by foot if you have light luggage. Even the narrowed-down street that you have to pass to go to our place have this sign that says “NO CAR from here on”.

This ensures that we have complete tranquility in our little tropical paradise but the Taxi drivers won't drop you off in front of our door. That's why we highly recommend you to arrange transport with us at least A WEEK BEFORE YOUR ARRIVAL in case you'd like to get a smoother journey into our compound.

As we live in the middle of nature, we do have dinosaurs, giant elephants, geckos, unidentifiable bugs, frogs, etc. Well okay, the first two is a rare sighting. Our point is: let’s be realistic. You will be living in a forest, and we have no 5-stars-hotel kind of luxury or a 24-hour concierge (at least not yet). If any of the AIR family is there, we will probably be able to help you fight a giant spider and throw them out back to their habitat. But if it’s off-hours (after 4 PM) and there’s nobody there, you can only rely on yourself and the facilities we provided for you, which is actually quite a luxury to have in the forest.

If by now you’re already scared reading these notes, we suggests you to book a place that suits your character and preferences better, and they’re usually more nearby to the city center. There you go, we just helped you even before you booked us ;)

Also in case you didn’t know, the tropics are HUMID. Ubud is especially more humid compared to other areas in Bali during rainy season. We do have dehumidifiers in some of the rooms but just know that this is how it flows here. We can’t change the climate nor do we ever want to. You gotta be OK with this when you come to Ubud.

Clear enough? Deal? Book us then! Woohoo!

We also live with Rudi and his local Balinese family and they will be happy to rent you some of their scooters, or teach you a bit about the local culture :)

Location

Ubud, Bali, Indonesia

Ubud's main street is about 3 minutes away by motorbike/scooter and 10-15 minutes by walking. AIR itself is in a rare area where panoramic rice fields still exist with all of its mind blowing green beauty. You can relax and unwind here and have a walk amongst the rice paddies or head into town where there’s access to a bunch of amazing restaurants, cultural happenings, world class yoga studios, dance classes and our (upcoming) community cinema.

    During your stay
I’ll be there most of the time sitting at the kitchen table (if not running around giving tours) during check-in and checkout time for sure ;)

I will be there whenever you need me and always available through WhatsApp text/call and direct calls. I will also make sure that the AIR staff will be able to help you during their work hours.

When you do see me, let’s not hesitate to interact with each other, especially if you wanna talk about Indonesian food or have any sudden inquiries. Or even if you think of any stupid jokes, or need a friend to talk to, I’ll try my best to be a good listener.

We welcome independent travellers that enjoys finding their own path, artists that have their own workflow figured out already, yet also open to meet other guests and open-minded enough to new experiences.
