Interaction with Guests
We are here to help you make the best of your trip!
We are very nice and friendly, but also understand that that travelers need their own space and privacy, so we try to offer that.
Our family has always been very interested in participating of intercultural experiences. Over the years, we have hosted over 20 exchange students from Europe and the USA through programs such as International Studies Abroad (ISA) and American Field Service (AFS), and now we have joined the wonderful Airbnb community.
My parents don't speak perfect English but they are pretty awesome at non-verbal communication! Also, my mom has a special talent to help people learning Spanish ( she is super patient and knows how to communicate well using simple words).
My dad is a civil engineer, my mom is his assistant, and I am an architect so we all work together. We work with several government institutions building low income housing programs. We work all over the country so we travel a lot. We are home sometimes during the mornings and most evenings.
Our home is in Montelimar. This is an AWESOME location because you will be less than 2 miles from the center of San Jose. However, it is also a very quiet and safe middle class residential area.
There is a supermarket 250 meters (820 feet) from our home and there is also access to 5 different bus lines going to San Jose, San Pedro, Moravia, Guadalupe and Heredia.
Montelimar is a QUIET suburban neighborhood. This is a SMALL and FRIENDLY community where you will discover what a TRADITIONAL Costa Rican neighborhood is like, while enjoying all the amenities of CITY life.
NEARBY you will find supermarkets, hair salons, a track and soccer field, and fitness centers.
HALF A MILE away (800 meters), you will find Guadalupe's Courthouse and many restaurants, bars, cafeterias, copy centers, convenience stores, a gas station, and the Clinica Catolica hospital.
1.2 MILES AWAY (2km) you will find one of San Jose's newest and largest shopping malls (website hidden) [starbucks, restaurants, cinemas, shopping, etc.]
On Saturdays, there is a farmers market in Guadalupe. Here you will find fresh produce from all over the country. This is a traditional fair and many Costa Ricans spend their Saturday morning shopping and enjoying typical food and beverages.
VERY convenient buses and several different bus lines. Also, we are so close to downtown, San Pedro, Moravia, and the center of Guadalupe that many travelers prefer to use taxis (they are quite affordable). You can get downtown for only 5 or 7 dollars depending on traffic.
There are 5 bus lines that connect our home to Guadalupe (downtown), San Pedro, San Jose, Heredia, and Moravia.
PLUS: If your schedule coincides with ours, we can give you free rides to San Jose or San Pedro.
If you want to rent a car we have free parking.
Other Things to Note
We also offer a light breakfast, COFFEE, CEREAL and TOAST.
You will be given a house manual upon your arrival.
There is not cleaning fee so please clean up after yourself.
It was awesome staying here. Very welcoming, friendly and helpful family. No issues with anything at all. The house is very large with a huge outside area. Would highly recommend, if you're looking for a good place near San Jose, as the center is few bus stops away. The room is good for one person. Neighborhood is nice and very safe.
Elsi and her husband were very welcoming and made us feel comfortable in their home. The room is small as shown on the photos and filled with a very comfy double bed. We spent much of our time out in the beautiful garden which is a great area for eating meals, working or reading.
While initially difficult to find, the location is very convenient. There is a large supermarket two blocks away, a scattering of restaurants in the vicinity, and frequent buses into the centre of San Jose (20 mins).
I would highly recommend this room to anyone looking to spend time in San Jose.
The reservation was canceled 31 days before arrival. This is an automated posting.
The room was very nice and clean, the bed a bit small for two people. The location of the b&b is good, although quite confusing at first as the public transports do not take you directly there. We did not get our taxi ordered even though we asked, which made us pay a lot more. Finally, the breakfast provided was very nice, but we had to ask for it and was not offered to us (a little awkward). The family offered to do our laundry for free, which was great. Overall we had a very lovely experience, everyone in the house was very nice, we felt very welcome and were greeted very well even early in the morning upon arrival. The family was very helpful with directions and information about San José, and showing us the local area. There is a supermarket very close to the b&b, and lots of restaurants to choose from (take note that they might close extremely early, even earlier than dinner time). The garden is as lovely as described with even a rare bird showing up.

Currently, I am a PhD. art history student at NYU. I was born and raised in Costa Rica but I have lived in the US for more than 5 years.
I love traveling and I have been both an Airbnb host and guest for almost 3 years. I love Airbnb because it is good, cheap, easy, and convenient. However, the absolute best part is the wonderful people you get to meet. I truly think believe this is a wonderful community of open, giving, kind people who are willing to open their homes and make someone's trip and unforgettable experience.
I also love animals and I hope to own a goat one day. :)
For those of you who are visiting my home in Costa Rica, your hosts will be my parents and my sister. Here is a bit about the three of them:
My mom's name is Elsie. She is a super woman! She raised 4 girls and now works with my dad. She LOVES her garden, so if you wanna see her smile just tell her you like it too. She is a great Spanish teacher. She speaks little English herself but she is very patient and has an awesome ability to communicate using simple words.
My dad's name is Clar. He is a civil engineer and works with the government in low income housing projects. He is quiet and a bit shy for the most part but he is a sweetheart. He LOVES FOOD. So if you wanna go with him to the Farmer's market, he will be super excited to show you all the weird tropical foods that you can only find in our region.
My sister Marianne: she is an architect and also works with my dad. She is 32 years old but she's a little girl at heart! Her English is very good so she can help out with any communication.
