Interaction with guests

We are here to help you make the best of your trip!

We are very open and friendly and we love to spend time with our guests. However, we also understand that travelers need their own space and privacy.

Our family has always been interested in traveling and meeting people from different countries. Over the years, we have hosted more than 20 exchange students from Europe and the USA through programs such as International Studies Abroad (ISA) and American Field Service (AFS), and now we have joined the wonderful Airbnb community.

My parents don't speak English but they are pretty awesome at non-verbal communication! Also, my mom has a special talent to help people learn Spanish (she is super patient and knows how to communicate well using simple words).

The neighborhood

Our home is in Montelimar. This is an AWESOME location because you will be less than 2 miles from the center of San Jose. However, it is also a very quiet and safe middle class residential area.

There is a supermarket 250 meters (820 feet) from our home and there is also access to 5 different bus lines going to San Jose, San Pedro, Moravia, Guadalupe and Heredia.

Montelimar is a QUIET suburban neighborhood. This is a SMALL and FRIENDLY community where you will discover what a TRADITIONAL Costa Rican neighborhood is like, while enjoying all the amenities of CITY life.

NEARBY you will find supermarkets, hair salons, a track and soccer field, and fitness centers.

HALF A MILE away (800 meters), you will find Guadalupe's Courthouse and many restaurants, bars, cafeterias, copy centers, convenience stores, a gas station, and the Clinica Catolica hospital.

1.2 MILES AWAY (2km) you will find one of San Jose's newest and largest shopping malls [starbucks, restaurants, cinemas, shopping, etc.]

On Saturdays, there is a farmers market in Guadalupe. Here you will find fresh produce from all over the country. This is a traditional fair and many Costa Ricans spend their Saturday morning shopping and enjoying typical food and beverages.

Getting around

FROM THE AIRPORT:

(12 miles / 19.3 km)

The best way to get to my house from the airport is just to take a taxi.

The ride from the airport to our house should be between 30 and 45 minutes depending on traffic and no more than $25 - $ 35.

TO and FROM SAN JOSE:
(Distance to downtown San Jose: 1.8 miles / 3 km).

VERY convenient buses and several different bus lines. Also, we are so close to downtown, San Pedro, Moravia, and the center of Guadalupe that many travelers prefer to use taxis (they are quite affordable). You can get downtown for only 5 or 7 dollars depending on traffic.

There are 5 bus lines that connect our home to Guadalupe (downtown), San Pedro, San Jose, Heredia, and Moravia.

PLUS: If your schedule coincides with ours, we can give you free rides to San Jose or San Pedro.

If you want to rent a car we have free parking.

Absolutely perfect place!! The layout, attention to details (so many hooks for towels, clothes, and more plus lots of outlets), and the cute kitchen was a lifesaver, along with the coffee this morning. Gracias para todo, Marianne!

The place is exactly as advertised. Not really in the center of San Jose, but you get there very easy and not being in the center also means that the area around the house is very quiet. You get to downtown with Taxi and Uber very fast so it`s not really a problem that the apartment is a little bit outside. The place is very clean, the checkin is super easy and overall it is a place I would suggest as a great price / value accomodation.

This lovely room is amazing value for money. I have also not come across a more genuinely kind host as Marianne, who was impeccable in her communication-timely & thorough. We were only in San Jose one night, but the house seemed secure & in a safe neighbourhood with a decent supermarket only a few minutes walk away + Uber's operate at all hours of the day, so easy to access other parts of the city (though be careful where precisely once nightfalls!) The only downside was the wifi, which did not seem to work in our part of the house. That said, we were there for so little time, we did not complain, so perhaps it could be rectified if the issue was brought up. Otherwise, this place was absolutely perfect for a short stop in San Jose.

We only stayed here one night and it was a quick stopover but it was perfect. Very clean, and very comfortable. The area seemed totally safe, we walked to get some food. Marianne was very helpful in explaining everything. If we were back in San Jose we would stay here again for sure.

In this place it is soooo easy to feel at home! Do definitely book this place blindly. For sure one of the best and affordable rooms in San Jose! Priscilla's parents are also very kind. They do respecting your privacy... and help you when needed. What can I say... I did not use the kitchenette much. Maybe i missed a water boiler to make tea? Oh and i had some minor problems with the internet connection (it was quite slow and I needed to work online). TIP: One nice restaurant is close by, called Entre Migas (a tip from Priscilla). About the location: I was not attracted to San Jose city center at all, so it is much better to stay in this neighbourhood and explore other neighbourhoods from there... (the room is in Montelimar close to Calle Blancos). Again I want to point out that Priscilla's family is very trustworthy and kind and this room comes totally recommended in case you want to be in San José!

Our stay here was wonderful. Everyone was so friendly and went out of their way to be helpful! The room was very clean and comfortable and we enjoyed the private entrance if we were going out or coming home late so we wouldn't disturb anyone.
