Experience turn of the century charm in this cozy studio space. Separate from other living areas in this multi unit home, provides privacy. Has attached private bathroom, microwave, fridge, private entrance (separate from living spaces, but shared), and sleep number bed. The house was featured in the annual Heritage Hill tour of historic homes in 1996, and again in 2008. Walk to popular downtown attractions in 5 to 15 minutes. License #HOB-0002.

The space
The 1 room studio is on the 2nd floor of a 2 story multi unit home. Consists of a room containing the sleeping/living area, which includes a microwave, fridge, and tableware. The room has exclusive use of an attached full bath. There is no kitchen included or accessible.

The setup is similar to a hotel room, in that you enter the house via the common entryway - also used by my tenant, and go up the stairs to the studio, which is off the 2nd floor landing. There are two other apartments in the house - one occupied by my tenant, the other by me. The studio space is one of 3 units in the house, and is therefore separate and inaccessible from the 2 other units. Guests will have access to the studio and common areas of the house, which consist of the entryway, washer & dryer in basement, back deck (until 10 PM), and front porch.

The room has a queen size sleep number bed that allows firmness on each side to be independently adjusted. If you've never slept on one, you are missing out!

Amenities include (in studio, unless otherwise noted)
- queen size sleep number bed (either half of the bed has adjustable firmness)
- refrigerator with separate freezer
- microwave
- plates, utensils, and cups
- power strip with 2 usb ports
- luggage rack
- lighted mirror (regular & magnifying)
- ceiling fan
- chest of drawers (in closet in studio)
- iHome clock radio with Apple connectors
- Keurig coffee maker (in entryway)
- Coffee, tea, hot cocoa (in entryway)
- A/C unit (in room when warm out)
- 2 padded chairs
- in-room console table that can be used as a desk
- clothes bin (collapsible)
- new LG 5G TV (as of 8/2016)
- Comcast cable TV (digital starter pkg - 140 channels incl. TNT, ESPN, MTV, Bravo)

The house is an 1892 American Craftsman style home, that was reborn following a tragic fire in 1994 that destroyed two-thirds of the home. Rebuilt over a two year period, by two craftsmen, who meticulously matched new woodwork to old, and crafted new crown moldings and ornate leaf designs, restoring it to its former glory.

The house is located on a bustling (during peak travel times) 2-lane avenue, which the room overlooks. There are storm windows with screens on all windows in the room and bathroom, which helps to reduce traffic noise.

For bookings made after 7/12/2020, breakfast is no longer included in the stay.

Guest access
Entry to the house is via a key code in the front door. Entry to the studio is through the entry way, up the stairs, and also via a key code lock. In addition to the one room studio and attached bathroom, guests will have access to the washer and dryer in basement, and shared entry way. There is no access to the other two units in the house.

Includes off-street parking for 1 car. There is also parking on the street in front of the house.

Other things to note
There is a Keurig coffee maker in the front entry way. Coffee, creamer, and sugar are also available. My 2nd floor tenant uses this entryway, so it is shared, but you can feel reasonably comfortable heading downstairs in the morning - or whenever - in casual attire (perhaps jammies?) to make a cup of Joe. Note that the entrance is private in the sense that it is not part of either of the living quarters of the 2 main units.

The cleaning fee of $10 is charged once per stay. If you are staying longer than a week, the room will be cleaned once a week.

There is off-street parking for 1 vehicle.

Grand Rapids, Michigan, United States

Heritage Hill is a National, State, and Local Historic District in Grand Rapids, Michigan. It is one of the largest urban historic districts in the country. The district contains over 1,000 houses dating back to the19th and early 20th century, representing nearly every style of architecture. The original occupants were lumber barons, teachers, judges, and legislators, who shaped the city’s future. Today it is home to a diverse population of 4,000 households. Bordered by Crescent Street (north), Union Avenue (east), Pleasant Street (south), and Lafayette Street (west), it covers an area of about 3,500 acres. Heritage Hill was designated by the American Planning Association as one of 2012’s Great Places in America.

It is a 5 minute walk to the downtown area, which hosts a diverse collection of dining establishments, bars, entertainment venues, medical institutions, universities, and retail outlets. You may want to find a spot on a bench in Rosa Parks Circle, and take in a free outdoor concert in the summer - or ice skate in the winter. Perhaps you’d like to take a stroll along the river. If you like breweries, there are numerous to choose from. These are a few of the many activities this lovely city has to offer!

Hi, I’m Julianne. I’m a native of upstate New York, and moved to the Grand Rapids area 20+ years ago. I lived in the suburbs of GR until recently, when I bought a historic multi-unit house in Heritage Hill. I’m thrilled to be in this wonderful neighborhood, and the downtown area. A friend suggested I rent a studio in my house on airBnB, which I thought was a great idea, so decided to do it! I’ve worked with technology for most of my career, until recently acquiring a nursing degree, and becoming an RN. I have a great job that combines my technical and clinical experience. On occasion, friends lovingly call me geek or nerd. I like to workout a lot. My favorite place to workout is the downtown Y or the Mary Free Bed Y on the southeast side of town. You are welcome to join me as my guest (the Y charges a visit fee - as of 12/9/16 it is $10). I also love to ride my pedal bicycle - and my motorcycle - when it is warmer out. I also like to eat, cook, and bake. I like to meet new people and hear their stories. I am looking forward to providing whatever assistance may be needed to help people have an enjoyable stay in this wonderful city!
