About This Listing
This is a large, airy bedroom on the second floor of the house. It has oversized windows which look out into the gorgeously landscaped in-ground pool in the backyard. It has it's own AC unit so you can control your room temperature to your liking.
Expect to feel like one of the family while you are here. I have a beautiful home and love sharing it with people from all over the world.
The house is set in suburban Long Island neighborhood, and is quite large. The bedrooms that are available are on second floor of private residence. The very large bedroom is on the lower level, by itself and has a private bath. There are shops, restaurants, and attractions all over Long Island, and public transportation to all is available by either local bus or Long Island Railroad.
My place is unique in that you have lots of privacy, lots of space to spread out, and will enjoy all the comforts of home without all the hassle of hotel rules. The kitchen is large and can accommodate many people. I have a dining room, living room, kitchen and extra baths in the house if you need a little more space than what's already provided. Just want you to feel welcome and enjoy Long Island and my home while you are here. I LOVE MY HOUSE and you will too!
You will have access to your room, the kitchen, the dining room, your assigned bathroom, and the laundry room while you are here. The rooms that are for private family use are the office, my bedroom, and the other guest bedrooms in the home. You can also use the yard and pool, as long as I'm not having any of my own parties or family gatherings at the time.
Interaction with Guests
I see my guests daily. I follow their lead as far as interactions. Some want peace and quiet and a quick exchange of pleasantries. Others like to talk. I'm flexible and can accommodate both types of guests.
It's a beautifully landscaped area, with most neighbors using gardeners and private landscapers to maintain the beautifully large gardens and trees. My own home has plenty of shady spots, but lots of sunny ones too. I love the convenience of walking 6 blocks to the nearest bus stop and stores. There are pizza parlors, Chinese, Japanese, Italian, Thai, Indian, French, and American restaurants very close also. There is a small strip mall (Lake Success Shopping Center) with larger chain stores such as Sears, Bed Bath & Beyond, Gap, Barnes & Noble, Pier 1, FYE, New York and Company, Express, Children's Place and more. Within a short driving distance there is Whole Foods Market, Trader Joes, and natural health food stores.
Approximately 6 blocks away is the bus stop, which serves Long Island and NYC. There is a Long Island Railroad station about 2.2 miles away, with a large parking garage that charges only $5.00 a day for parking.

I had rented this room for my son who is working on Long Island. This was the second week he was at Geri's and he really likes it. Geri makes you feel right at home and everything was just a clean and comfortable as the listing stated. He has been so happy with staying there that we extended his stay for a month.
Geri was amazing! I booked this room for my son, who is now working on Long Island, until he finds an apartment. Geri is warm, friendly and very welcoming. My son says he feels very comfortable there and we extended his stay until the end of May. The house is very clean and just as the listing stated. Geri has gone out of her way to make my son feel like part of the family. I would highly recommend staying with Geri, it has been a wonderful experience.
It's really hard to explain in words the amazing hospitality of Geri and Tom.
The room is very convenient, looks great, clean, as well as all other spots in the house (Kitchen, Bathroom, living room).
The location is in a very beautiful neighborhood, and is close not only to main highways, but also to grocery stores etc.
But this is only the start. Geri and Tom are the nicest people you can expect. They love guests, most welcoming,
and I could easily describe this place as home away from home.
Awwww - thanks Amit - you fit right in. I'm very happy that you feel so welcome, and that you are comfortable here. I'm also happy that you have decided to make our home your home for the next several weeks. I am looking forward to sharing more stories, laughs, and meals together. I can't wait to meet your family when they come in January! Have a great day!
The host wasn't there when I arrived, but someone met me at the door and showed me around and to my room. I met the host later that evening, and her husband the next morning. Both were very friendly, warm and accomodating to have a number of guests in their home. The general atmosphere was extremely comfortable. For breakfast they even offered me cereal and fruit or to my surprise some of their steel cut oats one of them was eating, which is something I cook for myself. Too bad I had a brunch date the next morning because their offering was more elaborate and tempting. The house was very clean. I felt very safe in the neighborhood going out on my morning run.
Geri was such a gracious host to me this summer and her and Tom made me feel like a member of their family! The couple is very generous and the accommodations are more than comfortable. Close to work and I felt incredibly welcome, would definitely return! Thanks to you too for a wonderful summer!
Geri was a great host. She is a lovely person and her family is very sweet. They made us feel at home and everything felt very casual. Highly recommended!

About the Host, Geri
I'm originally from Indiana, and moved to NY when I was 7. I have been married to my husband, Tom ( a native New Yorker) , for 28 years and we have 4 grown children. We both love meeting new people, reading, skiing, traveling, and hosting guests in our beautiful home. I am a 4th grade teacher in Brooklyn, a borough of NYC, and my husband is a retired NYC firefighter who owns and manages a sign and awning business. (Mineola Signs and Awnings) I like to bake, decorate, organize, play piano, take photographs, spend time with my adult children, garden, read, and relax in the backyard. My husband likes to garden, swim, walk, watch the Yankees, BBQ, and spend time with family and friends. We have a great relationship and we are each others' best friends. Our motto is "Find work that you like, and you'll never work a day in your life." and we are both fortunate in that we love our jobs. Another motto that we have live by is to "Live beneath your means." and that has served us very well over the years. We are easy-going but hard-working people and we take pleasure in our home and surroundings. We started hosting on airbnb to help pay for our daughters' wedding (in October 2014) and our son's college (he graduates in 2016) but have loved the experience and meeting so many new people that we will continue hosting for many more years. We love our house, and you will too!
