Lots of storage - 12 drawers, 4 cabinets, oversized countertop, comfy full size bed with super soft bedding and brand new wall to wall carpet (Jan 2014). Large windows give plenty of natural light. Your own AC/heating unit makes YOU comfy. Love it!
The bedroom is large, airy, and spacious. It contains lots of storage space (has 12 drawers and 4 cupboards) that has been custom built to fit underneath the large custom dresser top. There is a large 6 foot closet right outside your bedroom door if you need additional closet space! The bedroom is located on the second floor a split-level home, which contains a den, living room, dining room, and eat-in kitchen.
You are free to use the kitchen if you clean up after yourself. I don't really cook that much, so it's readily available for you to use.
You will have your own bathroom if you are the only guest on the second floor, or if you choose to rent two rooms. Else, you will share the bathroom with another houseguest. Please clean up after yourself each day if you share the space.
The neighborhood is suburban in nature, which means there are lots of restaurants and shops, with the nearest mall only about 1.5 miles away. The nearest bus stop, which takes you to Manhattan, is about a 10 minute walk from the house. You can also take the Long Island Railroad into the city, which is about 1.1 miles from the house and also just a quick 15 minute walk from the house.
My home is beautiful, warm, spacious, and meant to be lived in! Look at the pictures and decide for yourself. You will love it here. The pool alone makes this place THE place to stay while you are here in the summer. In the fall, the foliage is fantastic. In the winter, the scene out the large picture windows will be appreciated when you are sitting in front of the gas fireplace, which is easily turned on by remote control. I love my home and you will too! Welcome to Long Island living!
Guests will have access to their bedroom, a shared bathroom on the same floor, a full size eat-in kitchen, dining room, living room, and den. Guests may also use the yard and pool when the hosts are not entertaining their own guests (which we usually have once a week in the form of a family and backyard BBQ)
Interaction with Guests
I am home daily and follow my guests guidelines as to interactions. Some like to chat and some like to be left alone. Either is okay with us. It's your decision as to how much you want to interact with us. We are friendly and always willing to engage in lively conversations but if you've had a long day at work and want to sit and read quietly, that's okay too.
I love the cleanliness, the coziness, and the convenience. The house is in the suburbs and all of my neighbors maintain their properties extremely well. Landscapers and gardeners maintain common entrances and private homeowners maintain front yards. The neighborhood does not get much traffic as it only consists of four streets once you enter Hamilton Park, a subdivision of Roslyn. It's a great place to walk or jog around, with plenty of sunshine and lots of friendly people who walk and clean up after their dogs. FYI - we love dogs and cats but don't allow them as guests because of allergies. We are conveniently located to public transportation, small malls that include everything from pharmacies, pizza places, grocery stores, and shoe shops to bowling, movies, and ice skating rinks. All of these things are within 10 blocks of the house. Our home has a pool, BBQ grill, outdoor ping pong table, and plenty of lounge chairs and picnic tables around the property. It's a very relaxing place in a very relaxed neighborhood.
There is a bus stop 6 blocks away. The buses takes you around Long Island and to NYC, as well as to the LIRR. The Long Island Railroad stations nearby are Mineola, Manhasset, and East Williston. They will take you to NYC for about $10.00 - $15.00 roundtrip. The bus takes longer but is much less expensive (about $3.00-8.00 roundtrip)
Other Things to Note
If you want to cook your own meals, you can buy and store your food in the pantry or refrigerator. It's extremely large and can usually accommodate a few days worth of food.
I want you to feel welcome! Please treat my home, and other guests, with respect. Clean up after yourselves in all the common areas of the house - bathroom, kitchen, laundry room, den, dining room, and living room.
Keep your belongings in your room please.
Hang up wet or damp items in the bathrooms.
If you have any questions or concerns, please communicate them in a timely fashion so that I can make you more comfortable. Enjoy my home! Thanks for coming! Welcome!
I’ve stayed at Geri’s place for over 4 weeks and I felt like I was part of the family.
Geri and Tom are extremely nice people. . I could have not been in better hands then theirs. What lovely people.
The location was perfect; there are ton of restaurants, grocery and shops nearby and most of all it was walking distance to my office.
Last but not least they have the most beautiful and cozy house, it truly makes you feel like at home.
I stayed home most of the time. Looking forward to see them again during summer.
I really do enjoy having the comforts of home while away. This is a very warm and comfortable home with an awesome atmosphere.. We break bread together most nights and have a lot of stimulating conversation along with some hearty laughs. The location is excellent allowing me to get from one area to another with ease, the close proximity to major freeways is perfect. All in all, it's been a very nice experience.
Really enjoy staying here, its a nice environment with beautiful surrounding's and so convenient to the highways and LIRR. And where else can you get homemade pumpkin pie.
I guess it's time to make another pumpkin pie, now that Halloween has passed. Get those pumpkins off the front porch and let's start baking them today!!!! We love having you Mike, and are happy that you have decided to make our home your home for the next several months. You feel like a member of the family (and I mean that in a good way) and I love the shared meals and dinner conversations we have.
You really can't go wrong by choosing to stay with Tom and Geri. I felt welcome in their home the minute I stepped inside. Geri made sure the room was comfortable and beautiful for me by the time I moved in. There's air conditioning in each of the rooms, so don't worry about the summer heat. It's been so much fun getting to know Tom and Geri and the other housemates. I've really enjoyed spending time with each and every one of them.
I have been staying with Geri for the past few weeks and I could not be happier! Everyone in this home is warm and kind. Her home is clean, comfortable and inviting. I'm here on Long Island for work and the room has been quiet and allowed me to study and do my work. Her home is near the main highways and close to any shopping you may need. If you are going to be going into the city, this is the perfect location. Its just far enough from NYC to enjoy some peace and quiet, but close enough to get into the city without hassle. I will request lodging with Geri whenever I come to Long Island and highly recommend her as an airbnb Host!
This was our second stay with the Sheas. They make it extremely easy and comfortable, welcoming us like family. Whenever we are in the area, we will stay here.
Tom and Geri accepted us to stay on short notice and were generous hosts. They have a very nice, clean home, which they opened up to us for coffee, snacks, and even pancakes on our day of departure. They and the other guests were friendly and respectful, and it was a great place to rest and recoup during family visits during the holidays. They also provided a place to weather the snow storm, and even got help to dig out our car before we left!
P.S. - In a strange coincidence, we were in a Starbucks in Manhattan near Penn Station prior to arriving at Tom and Geri's. While we were there we chatted to a young couple who were also from California. When we heard they were staying on Long Island we offered them a ride in our rental car, but they declined as they had plans in 'The City.' Later in the evening after returning to Geri's from our own activities, we learned that the other guests staying there was the young couple we spoke to at Starbucks!

I'm originally from Indiana, and moved to NY when I was 7. I have been married to my husband, Tom ( a native New Yorker) , for 28 years and we have 4 grown children. We both love meeting new people, reading, skiing, traveling, and hosting guests in our beautiful home. I am a 4th grade teacher in Brooklyn, a borough of NYC, and my husband is a retired NYC firefighter who owns and manages a sign and awning business. (Mineola Signs and Awnings) I like to bake, decorate, organize, play piano, take photographs, spend time with my adult children, garden, read, and relax in the backyard. My husband likes to garden, swim, walk, watch the Yankees, BBQ, and spend time with family and friends. We have a great relationship and we are each others' best friends. Our motto is "Find work that you like, and you'll never work a day in your life." and we are both fortunate in that we love our jobs. Another motto that we have live by is to "Live beneath your means." and that has served us very well over the years. We are easy-going but hard-working people and we take pleasure in our home and surroundings. We started hosting on airbnb to help pay for our daughters' wedding (in October 2014) and our son's college (he graduates in 2016) but have loved the experience and meeting so many new people that we will continue hosting for many more years. We love our house, and you will too!
