The Space

This beautiful gem of a villa was recently renovated and completely furnished to top standards. The location is ideal -- just outside of Ubud and in the very desirable Sayan area (near the Four Seasons Hotel).

• two stories with a beautiful view and mature tropical garden
• one very large bedroom (queen bed, 180x200) and bath upstairs (rain shower with hot water) -- wrap around windows make it feel like you're sleeping in the treetops :)
• Large open deck, living and dining area downstairs overlooking the garden
• video room downstairs with fold-out spare bed, plus attached bath (shower with hot water)
• Wifi
• flat screen and DVD/CD player (but no satellite TV)
• fully equipped kitchen with stove & oven, large refrigerator/freezer
• a sitting/yoga bale in the garden
• air conditioning in the bedroom and TV room
• fans in all living areas

The house is suitable for a single or couple. The price includes daily basic housekeeping service and all utilities. Bedroom and TV room doors are lockable. There is a housekeeper/gardener/security person who lives in the complex. It is a very safe location, in a quiet complex of 4 houses. There is a local laundry nearby and we can help arrange that service. Covered parking. There is a good grocery store on the near outskirts of Ubud, two weekly organic farmers markets, and many excellent restaurants.

July and August are the peak months for visitors to Bali (and Ubud) for good reasons: the weather is gloriously sunny during the day, cool in the evenings, and there is very little rain. During these two months, the MINIMUM BOOKING IS THREE NIGHTS.

I will be happy to arrange airport pick up or drop off with a local driver. Their standard airport transport fee is Rp 300,000 (around US$30) each way.

Traveling with friends? Tropical Colonial Villa (on Airbnb) is located next door -- together they make a great pair!

  • This was our second 3-night stay; we went off to Amed for 3 nights in between (see Villa Aquamarine in Amed). So I refer you to my previous review and will just add a couple of things:

@ We had a very good tour of temples and rice fields in central Bali courtesy of the excellent guide/drivers that Jackie recommends.
@ We went on a cycling trip with Bali Budaya Tours (also known as Bali Eco Cycling), which was very good indeed, but not quite as good as the Lobong Cooking Experience mentioned in the previous review.
@ We had a fantastic meal at Bridges restaurant. The food is brilliant, the service quite superb and the ambiance is fantastic. Sadly the bill is also rather 'fantastic' by local standards - but it was about the same that we would expect to pay for similar dining in the UK (ie about £100 for two with PLENTY of wine!).

  • Jackie'a villa was a great place to rejuvenate our body and spirit. We really enjoyed the most beautiful garden, amazing sunrise every morning, and different ambience at every corner of the house. If you are a yoga person, I would recommend trying yoga on the deck. Location wise, It's a bit off from the central Ubud but transportation was very easily arranged. Wayan was very helpful and provided cleaning service that we didn't expect. Staying at Jackie's villa proved to be a great way to enjoy Ubud...

  • You will not be disappointed when you arrive at Jackie's villa! In the photos it looks amazing, and the reality is equally amazing. From the parking area you walk along a path that takes you to a magical, secluded jungle hideaway. There are a couple of other properties nearby, but they are very much obscured by the foliage, and we felt nicely isolated. It really is a very special place.

As I mentioned, it is just as good as the photos suggest, and has some nice extras such as:
@ Hand made soap in both bathrooms (yes, there's a bathroom downstairs too, not sure that was covered in the property description)
@ Bottles of water by the bed and in the main bathroom
@ Mosquito coils were lit for us by Wayan (our housekeeper/Gardner) around the outdoor sitting area at about 5pm each evening
@ A full can of insect repellent spray was available

This is not to say that mosquitoes were a big problem; in fact much less so than we had expected!

To get around you really need wheels. The roads are fairly busy, so hiring a scooter would not be for the faint hearted, and driver Dewa, is only a few minutes away. Dewa collected us from the airport for a very reasonable fee (300k) and his excellent English enabled us to learn a bit about the island as we drove. Dewa can run you to Ubud for just 50k each way, and if he is busy he can quickly organise a relative or colleague. They all drive very decent cars, air conditioned of course. One advantage of using Dewa rather than a random taxi is that you know what it will cost you and you don't need to haggle.

We highly (email hidden) School - more a day immersed in the every day lives of the Balinese people with a cooking slant and at the end some of the best food you are likely to eat in Bali. Read more about it in Jackie's restaurant list, and call the number to arrange it with Sang De (Sanday). He speaks very good English and you won't regret the experience.
@ Il Giardino - superb Italian food in a lovely setting
@ Lotus Cafe - this does not appear in Jackie's recommended list, probably because tag food is not great, but it is a great place to have a drink looking at a lovely temple across an enormous lily pond.

Just one minor inconvenience to report: the WiFi is 'challenging'. Very slow and occasionally drops out. But it does work!

That's all from me, but tomorrow we return to Jackie's for another three nights, so maybe I will add more after that....

  • I loved my stay ay Jackie's villa!! Beautifully located against the green backdrop of a tropical forest and a local river running through its doorstep. Filled with butterflies, dragonflies and tropical flowers it's certainly a thing of beauty to delight on. The actual house is lovely with a comfortable airconditioned upstais bedroom with its own onsuite and views of the forest to die for! Just 15 minutes from Ubud centre by motorbike while still maintaining a village feeling. Wayan, the kind amd gentle gardener went out of his way to make my stay great including guiding me through local beautiful trecks. Him and his young family are lovely and added to the magic of the place. Although Jackie was away, she made herself very available through email in a distinctively warm and helpful manner. I would definitely stay there again and will recommend it to my friends!

  • We thoroughly enjoyed our one month at Luxe Ubud Villa. The tropical garden and forest view never ceased to impress and calm us. Wayan faithfully looked after us and the villa and we greatly appreciated the presence of his charming family. The villa was extremely comfortable and the kitchen well equipped for preparing meals. We were completely spoiled by our one month stay, we miss it already! We definitely plan on a return engagement.

  • Great place, quiet and tranquil with all the trimmings. Had a lovely time

  • Great place to stay, outside of town in the most beautiful tropical grounds overlooking paddy fields with a stream running through it. Well equipped kitchen, internet and telephone and the first mornings breakfast was supplied for us. Comfortable, most helpful staff including a driver Dawe who will drive you wherever you want to go in town or all over the island. A respite from the hustle and bustle of Ubud centre, it is a 30 minute walk into town but past little shops and through rice fields. Dawe will drive you there and back for $10.00, especially good for dinner at night!

  • Jackies place was exactly what I needed. So serene, surrounded by amazing greenery of forest and rice fields in the distance. A little out of town, but you can hire a scooter from the locals that look after the villas and live directly out the front. It's really well looked after and was constantly kept clean on my return from a days outing, awesome entertaining area if you felt like a night in and there was an insect net over the entire (massive and comfortable) bed. Definitely recommended for those that are looking to unwind. Thanks for having me and I would definitely return again! P

  • We stayed at Jackie's villa on a friend's recommendation and we are so happy we did! From the beginning, Jackie was super helpful, sending us a tip sheet for Bali before we arrived and setting us up with transportation from our hotel in Seminyak to her villa in Ubud. While we didn't meet Jackie because she was away for business, her caretaker, Wayan and his family were lovely and very respectful of our privacy. When we wanted to stay an extra night, Jackie was super flexible and allowed us to pay for the night with cash. The villa itself is gorgeous and is set away in your own private jungle - it was so nice to come back home after a day of sightseeing in Ubud and the surrounding areas and enjoy such peace and relaxation. We highly recommend Jackie and her villa in Ubud and would certainly stay there again!

  • I highly recommend staying at Jackie's Ubud villa. It is the perfect way to have privacy and the feeling of seclusion and yet only be a short drive from the heart of Ubud. The pictures don't do it justice! The amenities are great and it is very clean and well-maintained. Jackie was very reponsive and provided a number of useful info packs from restaurants to general information. Also the caretaker, Wayan, was extremely helpful and a really delightful person.

I came to Indonesia over 20 years ago on a 1-year contract with 2 suitcases, and have been here ever since. I work with rural communities to help them develop better livelihoods. And I'm incredibly lucky to base myself in one of the world's most beautiful places.
