Interaction with Guests
A farmer or farmhand is always available to answer your questions, make recommendations for off-farm activities and to make your on farm experience safe and fun.
The farm is one of three working farms on a quiet country road. The farm has a farm store and on-farm restaurant, Fable - gems in the middle of nowhere!
Horse or wheels (bike or car) needed to get around.
Other Things to Note
Unplug. Limited cell service. No television reception.
Two-night stay required on holiday weekends.
You are guests on a working farm with cattle, pigs, lambs, goats, ducks, geese, chickens, guinea hens, rabbits, border collies and livestock guardian dogs AND all the sights, sounds and aromas that go with a working farm. Please note that meals, including breakfast, are not included. Breakfast at Fable is included for additional fee.
No pets allowed on the farm. We love dogs (we have 10) but because the livestock guardian dogs work hard day and night to protect our livestock, your pet would be considered a threat to them and is not safe on our farm.
This cabin was a great treat. It is very clean and cozy. We were warm under the covers with the space heater cranked up. The real treat though was the breakfast cooked by Denise and interesting stories from Denise, Tom and the other nice guests that morning. A really fun way to experience upstate NY!!
We enjoyed staying in this cabin very much. If you enjoy animals- this is the place for you. We did visit during when the temperatures dropped a bit, and it did get pretty chilly at night. Check the weather and then visit!
The cabin is charming, beautifully organized and a pleasure to stay in. be sure to ask for detailed directions. (website hidden) maps is confusing both from 888exit 18 and from exit 16.
The place was awesome, everything we wanted and more! Farm store was extremely convenient as we were traveling light and needed additional supply. Everything we needed was waiting for us in the cabin! Coffee, tea, fire making supply, pots and pans, a bunch or blankets and pillows. Very comfortable and the farm was beautiful. Denise was extremely helpful and available and the farm hand was very nice. Thanks !!!
This place is a gem. We spend lots of time in the Catskills, and lots of time traveling outside of NYC, and this might be one of our best finds to date. Stone & Thistle is a wonderful, beautifully maintained working farm in stunning Delaware County (which reminds me so much of Vermont). The property is nestled on a quiet road, surrounded by rolling hills and colorful mountains. The farmhand cabin is set back from the barn, down a short road that is easily reached by car or foot. It is well appointed and deliberately designed, with electricity, a fridge with water, an electric heater, and just about everything else you could need for your time away. We also had a lot of fun walking the property, interacting with the goats and sheep, visiting the chickens, and spending lots of time with the couple's many working dogs.
The highlight of our visit was the incredible basket dinner that Denise (a kind, inspiring woman!) prepared for us, and Tom brought down to the cabin. For a bargain $35/person, we had three delicious courses, prepared almost exclusively from seasonal, farm sourced ingredients. Denise is a masterful cook, and old a cold night, her corn and bacon chowder simply cannot be beat. I will dream about her pumpkin pie until I return and demand some more ;)
My friends and I had an amazing day on Denise and Tom's cabin. Perfect place to disconnect—lots of napping in the sun, went to a nearby lake to canoe and swim for the day, and tried our hand at campfire grilled pizzas. Denise and Tom couldn't have been more accommodating (arrived super late and asked to leave late, too) and the farm and the surrounding area is a breathtaking place to spend a warm fall day. Thank you so much!!
My husband, our 20-month old kid and myself had a wonderful time at the cabin. The cabin is located in the middle of a prairie and is so peaceful. Our little one enjoyed the many animals on the farm. He had never seen a live pig (let alone cheerful piglets), lamb, goat, hen or goose. It was like a dream come true for him. We did enjoy the farm store on the premises, which carries many kinds of meat and other delicacies. We also enjoyed the jam, which tastes like my grandmother's! The cabin has everything you need for a combination of wilderness and yet comfort: electricity, a hot plate, a refrigerator, an electric coffee pot, a sink with running water, restrooms, an outdoor shower. The perfect combination with a young toddler. The cabin's size is perfect for two adults, with one or two kids. We just brought a portable crib that fits perfectly in the cabin without having to constantly fold it.
As far as sightseeing is concerned, we do recommend the Hanford Mill Museum in East Meredith, especially on a rainy day! The farm also has its own restaurant that is open on Saturday nights and offers Sunday brunches with local products of the farm. A farm tour is organized just prior to the brunch on Sundays.

Farm owner with husband Tom Warren and son Shane of Stone & Thistle Farm, a grass based livestock farm, Kortright Creek Creamery, a goat dairy and small creamery and Fable=farm+table - a seasonal on-farm restaurant. We are passionate about farming, great food and sharing with our community. Our busiest time of the year is May to October when we do farmers markets, farm tours, dinners and brunch and Fable, farm events, farm chores, projects, building, repairing, vetting, gardening - but we are never too busy to meet new people and learn something new and different. As a guest on our farm, you can participate in farm chores or relax on the farm, eat great farm fresh food, enjoy nearby hiking, swimming, skiing or shopping for books, antiques, visiting farmers markets, museums or state parks.
