Peace and quiet

Guests say this home is in a quiet area.
This spacious studio apartment is located in the former Swedish Congregational Church in historic Swedeville, a secluded hilly neighborhood built by Swedish immigrants in the 1800's. For years it housed Rick and Liza’s stained glass studio, which they have now lovingly and creatively transformed into a residence.

The rental is minutes from the interstate and one mile from downtown Brattleboro, but the neighborhood has a rural and somewhat European flavor to it.

The space
This 20x20 rental has ten foot high pressed tin ceilings, arched windows, stained glass, a comfortable queen sized bed as well as a twin sized day bed which converts to a king sized bed. The space offers a private subway-tiled bathroom with shower.
The kitchenette is equipped with a sink, fridge with freezer, induction hot plate, toaster oven, microwave, french press coffee maker, coffee grinder, tea pot, dishes and utensils. We provide the fixings for coffee and tea for your use.
We have a lovely vegetable and flower garden. You can expect to be greeted by roses or peonies or morning glories depending on the season. The October foliage is outstanding in this area and this neighborhood has some strikingly brilliant trees. During the winter when it snows, the neighborhood looks wonderful coated in sparkling white!

Please note that there is a long term rental apartment above this space. You may on occasion hear footsteps on the stairs above. We soundproofed the space recently so any sound is minimal.

Other things to note
We use insulated window quilts in the room to keep the room cozy at night in the winter - and cool during the hottest of summer days. Please let down the quilts when the room is dark and, in the summer, let down the quilts when you are away during the day to keep the room remarkably cool.
We ask that guests keep the noise level down after ten pm. There is a tenant in the apartment above so we ask that guests are mindful of noise at night.
NOTE: We now have heat pumps/ie. mini-splits which gives you control over how hot or cool you want the place.

Your hosts Liza King and Rick Neumann are retired architectural stained glass artists and long time Brattleboro residents. They closed their studio a few years ago, and spent the next year making the former church into a beautiful, comfortable and functional living space (where we now reside). They have made a point to pay homage to the building's architectural details and its Swedish past. Rick and Liza love taking long walks, gardening, traveling and playing ping pong, among other things. We love living in Brattleboro, a wonderful small town that is both cosmopolitan and a little funky, with a vibrant arts culture and surrounded by the natural beauty of the Connecticut River Valley and the Green Mountains. We look forward to hosting Airbnb guests.
