Comfy 4 bedroom country cottage recently restored. Drop dead sunset view over private lake. Located on Litchfield's largest private parcel of land-700 acres of fields, forest, trails, and lakes
. Located 5 miles from the Town of Litchfield, the property is in a very private area and is in the midst of a 700 acre grass fed beef farm. The Town of Litchfield is a short drive away and features numerous bars and restaurants, museums, nature preserves, antique shops and general sight seeing opportunities.

The Cloud Cottage is wonderful - a beautiful location in the Litchfield Hills. People who love going for long walks and sitting by a fire when you return will love this place. We were there over New Year's Eve and so weren't able to use the pool, but we hope to return sometime in the summer to do just that. John came over and showed us around and was very helpful in telling us about the area. There was lots of firewood to burn and the kitchen was well-stocked for cooking. Great restaurants in town, too. If you happen to be here in April, be sure to check out the famous daffodil plantings down the road at Laurel Ridge. (Google it to find pictures.) We'll be back!
We arrived at Cloud Cottage and were mesmerized by the beautiful view. However, after a quick walk through the house with my 4 and 6 year old, I found an almost dead mouse in a trap sitting on the bathroom floor—gross. I was glad neither one of my kids picked it up and hoped for the best with respect to other rodents.
We then went to put our groceries away in the kitchen and found mouse droppings on all counters, in drawers and bowls. Upon further inspection we found mouse droppings all over the house—everywhere. Clearly the house had not be recently cleaned. In fact, I emailed the owner twice before our arrival asking that the house be dusted and vacuumed prior to our visit because my little boy has allergies. No response.
When we found the trapped mice and droppings, I let the owner know that we had a problem. He seemed annoyed by the imposition, but agreed to come by. He set only two more traps and two more mice were caught. We then bought quite a few traps ourselves and set them in the basement and other rooms—additional mice were trapped and removed by us.
A mouse can invade any home, but this was more like a rodent invasion, with very little done to remedy the situation. Because the owner made us feel like it was an imposition to set more traps and take away the dead mice. There were other issues with this experience that I won’t get into here, but after paying $3500 for a week’s stay we expected a rodent free environment and a sympathetic response to a serious problem. We didn’t ask for a refund, but should have.
In short, the view is spectacular, the house is disgusting.
John's house was really beautiful and a fantastic house for a group. The pool is lovely, and we loved all the lush grass in the garden- especially as we are New Yorkers!
John greeted us upon our arrival which was very helpful.
Litchfield was a pretty town with nice shops and good coffee. We really enjoyed our experience at Cloud cottage
Cloud cottage is immaculate, comfortable and well maintained. The grounds are gorgeous and the pool is delightful. The owner, John, is easy to deal with, helpful and responsive to all questions and requests. Overall, it is a perfect air b and b experience.
We absolutely loved the Cloud Cottage. Pictures don't really do justice to the landscape and how beautiful the farmland and surrounding areas are. And there's a lake near by, with a walking trail to it too. This could just be because I live in NYC, but there was so MUCH sky! Beautiful views out of every window of the home. No wonder it's called Cloud Cottage.
John was a perfect host. He met us when we arrived to give us the key, walk us through the checkout process and fill us in on the restaurants and shops in Litchfield. The location was great as well, as it was close to many things, including different wineries on the CT wine trail.
The house was beautiful and clean, pool was lovely and we had a fantastic long weekend staying here. Would definitely come back.
The Cloud Cottage was lovely, truly a perfect place for our company retreat. It's clean, spacious, and nicely furnished, with a great kitchen, plus a huge deck, lawn, and pool for relaxing outside. John left very clear checkout instructions and was responsive to questions the whole time. The town of Litchfield nearby has very nice restaurants and shops, too. I highly recommend the Cloud Cottage for anyone looking for an idyllic and peaceful getaway!
Cloud Cottage is absolutely perfect for a weekend or week-long get away. The cottage is spacious and tastefully furnished, but the best thing by far is the deck, the pool, and the view from the backyard.
In addition, John, the owner of the cottage, made the whole booking process exceptionally easy because he was so friendly and responsive in answering any and all questions.
We had an absolutely perfect weekend here and will definitely be back.

I grew up on this farm, spent 30 years on Wall Street, and moved back here full time in 2006. In addition to managing this property (and 7 other longer term rentals), I'm a full time farmer with 160 grass fed cows, some pigs, and some chickens on the farm.
