Extra spacious

Guests love this home’s spaciousness for a comfortable stay.
Our compound includes both a one-hundred year old adobe farmhouse and a separate historic adobe guest house. Located in the Upper Canyon Neighborhood, it is 1.5 miles to restaurants and galleries on Canyon Rd.

Both the home and guest house have been beautifully restored with custom woodwork. The home has 3 bedrooms, a modern kitchen with an open ceiling, and French doors opening to garden areas.

The space
The home and casita were built from stone and adobe in the late 18th century and in the 1920s. Both were recently remodeled using a fusion of Japanese and Southwest styles.

The main home includes:
• 3 bedrooms: 1 upstairs with queen bed and views of the valley and hills; 1 upstairs queen bed with shoji doors and beautiful views; 1 ground floor with queen bed and French doors opening to the rear garden. All beds have brand new bedding and the queen beds have 500 count linens and goose down comforters.
• 2 bathrooms: 1 recently remodeled with sunken stone shower on ground floor and 1 full bath upstairs with beautiful views. Both have amenities including shampoo, conditioner, soap, towels, etc.
• Kitchen: large and open with fireplace and a central island with granite counters, Viking range and oven, dishwasher, and full fridge. All new white Scandinavian plates, bowls, utensils, and knives. Keurig coffee maker, toaster, microwave and many cabinets and pantry for storage of food and snacks.
• Open living area as part of kitchen that includes sofa and two chairs.
• Beautiful custom woodwork from recovered old growth Cypress trees.
• Dining room with table and chairs in a lovely sun room adjacent to the garden.
• Living room with built-in lounge beds, three comfy reading chairs, a cozy woodstove, and a flat-screen TV with Netflix. Sorry but we do not provide cable television.
• Wifi
• Washer and dryer.
• Purified drinking water.
• 2 car driveway (no garage).

The guesthouse or "casita" includes:
• An open studio with kitchen, dining area, and loft.
• Unique custom remodel blending Japanese and Southwestern styles.
• A lofted queen bed with ladder stairs from the studio.
• Two twin beds in a ground floor bedroom that was originally built as a root cellar in the 1780s with hand-hewn wooden vigas (beams).
• Kitchen with two electric burners, sink, half-size refrigerator. All new white Scandinavian plates, bowls, utensils, and knives. Keurig coffee maker, toaster, microwave and cabinets for storage of food and snacks.
• Closets and drawers in both the studio area and ground floor bedroom for clothes and belongings
• One bathroom with sunken shower. Amenities including shampoo, conditioner, soap, towels, etc.
• Radiant floor and baseboard heat.
• Wifi
• Roku TV with Netflix

The property has:
• Beautiful gardens with two sitting areas perfect for enjoying breakfast, lunch or dinner.
• Mature raspberry bushes and cherry, peach, apricot, apple, and pear trees - some of which are descendants from the fruit trees imported to New Mexico by Bishop Lamy in the 1800s.
• A functional acequia (or small stream thru the backyard) that has been part of the valley's irrigation system for several hundred years.

Guest access
The property is located along the hills of the Santa Fe River Valley and consequently there are stairs leading to the main house (22 steps) and to the lower back yard areas. The stairs in the house and to the backyard are a bit steep. Also the the stairs and loft ladder in the guest house are narrow and steep. Ascending and descending the stairs in the guest house could be challenging for children and older adults. It is not recommended for children less than six years or for older adults with balance difficulties or other health problems that would make climbing stairs difficult.

Other things to note
Our home is located in the Santa Fe River Valley, and although it is only 1.5 miles from Canyon Road galleries and restaurants, it has a very rural feel. The home is about a $5-7 Uber ride to the Plaza.

Our compound is fantastic for larger or extended families as well as groups of friends coming together. It also is great for travelers wanting to stay in a peaceful place near the mountains but still close to Canyon Road and the Plaza.

We have high speed fiber internet in both the main and guest houses (speed 300Mbps). The cell phone coverage, unfortunately, in the valley and at our home is often limited or not available, and it is dependent on your cellphone company. We do have phone lines with an Ooma phone, which can make local and national calls.

As noted in the Guest Access section, the stairs to the lower room and the ladder to the loft in the guest house are narrow and steep. Ascending and descending the stairs in the guest house could be challenging for children and older adults. It is not recommended for children less than six years or for older adults with balance difficulties or other health problems that would make climbing stairs difficult.

Neighborhood highlights

Located in the Santa Fe River Valley, the property is about 100-200 yards from the Dale Ball trails, the Upaya Zen Center, and the Santa Fe River Nature Preserve. It is also a short walk to the Randall Davey Audubon Center, "Two Mile Reservoir", and Picacho and Atalaya Peaks. It is about 2.5 miles or a $5 Uber ride to the Santa Fe Plaza.

It is a perfect location for quiet relaxation and nature but still is very close to fabulous restaurants and other sites in Santa Fe.
