Private Guest Suite in a Sunny Home

House - Entire home/apt · Third Avenue, New Westminster, BC V3M 1R1, Canada

Our guest suite sleeps two people very comfortably, and four in a pinch. The kitchen is similar to what you'd find in a hotel suite, and it also has a large fridge. There's a spacious bathroom and all linens are included! Thank you!

The Space

We have an old character house on a corner lot in BC's original capital, New Westminster. The city has a lot to offer, with a gorgeous boardwalk, a community college, college of natural medicine, law courts, shopping district, etc. But if you want to get into Vancouver, you're only a 25 minute skytrain ride away, so you don't need a vehicle!

Our house cozy and recently renovated. Your suite has its own entrance, so your privacy is ensured. And, you're welcome to use our additional amenities such as our laundry and (for shorter stays) our upstairs patio.

We've equipped the suite with fun reading material, board games, and the traditional trappings of a hotel stay (french press coffee and tea to get up with in the morning). We also run a Southern BBQ joint at the nearby public market, and we're including a free meal for 2 in the rental price.

The bedroom has a spacious closet, double bed and a desk. The kitchen has a toaster, microwave, coffee press and all the plates, cutlery and glassware you need. It's not somewhere that you would cook fancy dinners, but it means you can enjoy take out meals or picnics in your suite without having to eat on the bed!

There's a pull-out couch in the kitchen/living room which can sleep an additional two people in a pinch. The suite is equipped with linens and kitchen wares for four guests if required.

We've got wifi, however the suite isn't kitted with a televison (so passe...), so come and enjoy netflix on your ipad or laptop!

Guest Access

You have access to our laundry, and driveway for your car. We have a lovely deck upstairs for the summer patio season, and if you're really interested in fancy cooking, our upstairs kitchen has a professional gas range and all the equipment you need. We might just ask for a bite!

We just finished a second suite in the adjoining part of our home. If you're looking to accomodate a family of 4, the pair of rooms might just be great for you! Check out our other listing.

Interaction with Guests

We're pretty busy with our nearby shop, but we're always in and out of the house. We've got two cats (who have never been in the suite) and some chickens in the back yard. Friends are often over, and we welcome company.

As for you, you're welcome to be as private or as social as works for you. We'd love to help you navigate the city and we're always available if you need advice about your stay or if there's any issues with the space.

The Neighborhood

NEWSFLASH! Not only is there a local, urban winery 500 yards from our house, friends of ours are building a craft brewery just down the street! Steel and Oak should open in spring 2014 and we are VERY EXCITED!

Right now, our neighbourhood is a mix of family residential and some industrial. We're near a river walk, dog park, shopping and restaurants

Getting around

We are very central for transit in and around the entire Lower Mainland. Use the Skytrain to get into Downtown Vancouver and all points West. The Trans-Canada highway is an easy corridor to get wherever you want by car.

The average transit fare is $4.00 into the city for an adult and less for students.

Gas is hovering around $1.30/L as of February 2014

  • Me and a buddy were in town for the weekend and we couldn't have had a better stay in Vancity. Lindsey and Michael were quite friendly and accommodating, including some great tips about a few local music stores for my friend and some local restaurants (Disclaimer: they are owners of a New Westminster eatery). Would highly recommend to family and friends.

  • Staying in the private guest suite at Lindsay and Michael's was a great experience. I would recommend it to anyone looking for cozy apt with a perfectly themed decor while having the feel of staying with a family friend. Lindsay stayed up late to warmly welcome us in, pointed out the criticals (wifi password, space heater, etc), and even went so far as to send us a list of recommended restaraunts tailored to our visit & interests while in Vancouver! Very conveinently located near the highway and train, and only a short trip to the grocery, starbucks, etc. We would definitely stay here again when near Vancouver!

  • Lindsay and Michael were wonderful hosts! The place was just right for us - light and airy with good space. There was good highway access to UBC which was our prime destination. Although we didn't end up using it, the nearby access to rapid transit into the city is great to have. The BBQ chicken at their restaurant is not to be missed. We'd go back any time. Highly recommended.

  • Michael and Lindsay were great hosts and engaging conversationalists. They gave me excellent directions to the apartment and to local shopping. The unit is quite spacious and very thoughtfully appointed. Recommended!

  • Lindsay and Michael were a delight to stay with and went the extra length to make us welcome. The suite is cozy, spacious, functional and environmentally friendly. Be sure to take advantage of their Re-Up BBQ southern food offer. Delicious! Do take a taxi or an offer of a ride from the train station unless the day is nice and you are up for the hill.

  • The stay was excellent. I loved the neighborhood and found it easy to use public transit. Was a nice and relaxed environment to stay in.

  • We had an awesome experience with Michael and Lindsay. Both of them are very kind. The day we arrived michael surprised us with a great selfmade bbq. The best we ever had. Don't forget to visit their bbq restaurant (website hidden) by the way. The breakfast is as fantastic as the lunch or dinner. Don't miss that!!! The accommodation is very lovely. Big, clean and you have everything you will need. There's a microwave a toaster a little stove and a kettle. You can use Michael's and lindsay's kitchen at anytime, and it's great because Michael is a great cook and he will give you some very good and interesting advices.
From New Westminster you can reach vancouver downtown in only 20 minutes by skytrain. It's a good starting point for trips to mount Seymour grouse Mountain many bc national parks, whistler or vancouver island. We enjoyed our stay very much and so we can highly recommend this lovely place!!! :-D

About
My husband Michael and I live and work in New Westminster. We're transplants from downtown Vancouver and we'd never go back. We're busy people and we love it. Cooking and hosting are some of our favorite past-times, and we've spent most of our lives working in the hospitality industry. Mosty when we travel, we head on road trips down the West Coast of the US, but we're hoping to head back to Europe one day and do a train trip across Canada. OF course, we'd love to hear stories and travel tips!
