This is one of the few places in the area with free parking.
The “Researcher’s House” is a spacious, cozy cabin in the middle of the Arlequín Reserve, deep in the Ecuadorian cloud forest. Although it typically serves as field station for the Khamai Foundation’s team of biologists, it is now also available to other friends of the foundation. Being in a remote forest, the area is home to more than one hundred bird species, twenty frog species, and dozens of mammals, including the Andean bear. Reservations help fund the census of the Mindo Harlequin Toad.

The Arlequín Reserve, a 5-hectare protected area managed by the Khamai Foundation, hosts over 100 bird species, 22 amphibians, and 19 reptiles. Situated at 2,000 meters above sea level, the reserve is typically cool and cloudy year-round, with occasional morning sunshine. It is remote, with the nearest town, Mindo, located 12 km away (about a 19-minute drive).
