IN THE AREA:
There are some great eating places and pubs locally (within walking distance), and further afield you will find even more to entertain you.
In Gosforth itself you will find the Norse Viking cross and Hog Back stones at Gosforth church, Blengdale Forest and Gosforth Pottery. The beautiful Wasdale Valley, with Scafell Pike and Wastwater is only three miles away, boasting what was voted 'Britains Favourite View' over the lake towards the Scafell mountain range.
Seascale, with its beach and golf course is also only three miles away, and Ravenglass, with its famous narrow-gauge railway is only 7 miles.
There is plenty to do for cyclists in the area, whether mountain biking or road cycling.
The Hadrian Cycle Way starts 5 miles down the road at Ravenglass, you could come by train and get off at Seascale. The cottage is also on the route of the famous "Fred Whitton" cycle sportive for the Roadies.
For Mountain Biking my husband can supply routes and local knowledge so you can get the most out of your stay. There are routes for all abilities comprising country lanes, forest tracks, open fell and single track. From the cottage, there are enough routes without having to drive for at least a week. There is also the Whinlatter MTB cycle centre a 45 min drive north.
There is a secure bike shed for guests.
We want you to relax and enjoy yourselves, but would appreciate you leaving the cottage in a tidy state. Many thanks !
Around a week before our trip, we received a lovely message from Diane and David, which included very clear, comprehensive directions to the village/cottage. Upon arrival, we were greeted, and provided with a tour of the property, as well as shown a wide variety of maps and pamphlets detailing the amenities on offer in the surrounding areas. The cottage itself was presented beautifully, with the fresh flowers being a particularly nice touch. Facilities were excellent, with a well appointed kitchen (with eggs and milk!).
Would highly recommend and will be looking to return one day (and play another game of fetch with Dash)!
Quiet, simple and understated yet very informative and pleasant, just what we wanted a very pleasant introduction. We found the cottage very clean neat & tidy with all the amenities we needed. The river at the bottom of the garden was oh so relaxing, the inquisitive chickens in the kitchen can't fail to put a smile on your face. All together with pubs, shops & eateries in the village this was a lovely relaxing week away from the mad world we live in. Wouldn't hesitate to recommend to family and friends and indeed to you reading this review.
David and Diane made us feel very welcome and were very helpful. The cottage is lovely, spotlessly clean and has everything you could need. Perfect location for lovely walks. Nice quiet garden where we could sit with a cold beer after long walk.
We were welcomed on arrival, the cottage was better than described on the website. Very quiet private and peaceful, pretty friendly community and the cottage is well situated to make the most of the Lake District.
It was our honeymoon and our hosts left a card, flowers, sparkling wine, biscuits and eggs, much appreciated! Thank you Diane and David.
Look no further for a stay in the Lake District! The cottage is absolutely charming and beautifully renovated with a really nice kitchen, huge bathroom, log/coal fireplace, and lovely small backyard with a babbling brook. David and Diane couldn't have been nicer and more helpful. The location is just minutes from Gosforth Hall (good place for pies) and the center of the village, plus a 10 minute drive to Wasdale Lake which is surrounded by fells and is the home of British Climbing. David and Diane provided detailed maps of the area - essential for hiking - and books with recommended walks. Not too far away is a great walk to Loweswater Lake. We tacked on lunch at the ancient Kirkstile Inn which is a five-time winner of West Cumbria Pub of the Year and has a selection of home-brewed real ale. Loweswater Gold is the 2011 Champion Golden Ale of Britain. Bottom line....Blengside Cottage provides a peaceful and relaxing authentic Lake District experience without the madness of the tourist towns.
We had a lovely stay at Blengside Cottage.
The setting is lovely and quiet with only the sound of the wildlife and a stream to keep you company.
The cottage itself is so lovely! Lovingly prepared and we were welcomed with home cooked cookies. It had everything we needed and hoped for.
The local village of Gosforth has some pleasant pubs that do superb food and local ales etc.
We really enjoyed using this as a base to explore locally and wider a field over the lake district and really hope to return again one day.
Dave, Diane and family were superb hosts. Very welcoming and great for local knowledge, Dave helped put us on to some great local cycling trails too.
They even gave us a bottle of bubbly as it was our honeymoon!
We would recommend this spot to anyone.
We had a fantastic few days at the cottage and in Cumbria. The owners were most welcoming leaving a welcome few gifts of eggs, milk and cakes. Having never been to Cumbria and many weeks trawling through websites for an ideal location to enable us to trek up Scarfell Pike, by far we picked the best in Blengside cottage.
The cottage is attached to our house, so you are assured a warm welcome. We have renovated the cottage and fully equipped it for guests and offer weekend breaks, long breaks and full week bookings. Our changeover days are friday or monday.
This is a wonderful area to explore and we can give advice on walking / biking and places to visit on the west coast of Cumbria. We are a 10 minute drive from the beach and 10 minute drive from Wasdale valley - Britain’s favourite view, with Scafell Pike and Wastwater.
Look forward to meeting you.
