Centrally located on Portland’s Eastside, The Clay House is an enchanting 1 bedroom, 1 bath home that’s perfect for couples and business travelers. Freshly updated in spring 2024, the house features a luxurious bathroom, full kitchen, 2 office desks and a secret garden. From here, you can easily walk to Portland’s best restaurants and entertainment. We are one mile (1.6 km) east of the Willamette River, which you can cross via the Tilikum Crossing or Hawthorne Bridge to enter Downtown Portland.

The space
The Clay House also has a designated driveway parking spot, and a shaded garden with a fountain and pond in the backyard. Originally built in 1891, the house is a dynamic and vibrant fusion of classic meets modern, with high ceilings throughout, and walls finished with clay and natural plaster. New engineered-wood floors have just been installed in spring 2024, and all of the windows and doors are modern, offering excellent insulation and noise reduction.

If you need to park your vehicle in the driveway during your stay, please let me know when you request to book. The driveway cannot accommodate extra-long vehicles or trailers. The avenue leading to the driveway is a South-bound ONE-WAY, don't forget!

Bedroom: The queen bed is made with breathable cotton sheets and pillows of varying sizes. Thick curtains block out daylight almost completely. There is an empty dresser, plenty of hangers in the closet, and lots of free space to accommodate your belongings. This room is also equipped with an office desk if you need to work during your stay.

Bathroom: The walk-in shower feels luxurious, with both handheld and overhead faucets and a daylight window. The vanity has a large, well-lit mirror and is stocked with toiletries and plenty of new towels. The toilet is enclosed in it’s own private room within the bathroom, which enhances overall bathroom cleanliness and functionality.

Kitchen: The kitchen has everything you need to prepare meals, including a blender and instant pot. Although you may prefer to eat out for most of your meals because many of Portland’s best restaurants and cafés are within walking distance.

Living Room: The sofa and loveseat are so comfy! There’s a wall mounted tv with an Amazon firestick—as of this writing I don’t provide streaming services, you’ll have to log in and out of your own accounts. There’s also a soundbar that connects to your phone via Bluetooth. The upright piano is in tune, but the sustain pedal is broken as of this writing. There’s also a small guitar.

Bonus loft: To be perfectly clear, this space is not accessible to all guests due to the unique staircase. Each guest must determine for themself if they can safely ascend and descend the staircase, and as such all guests are 100% responsible for themselves on this staircase. That being said, the bonus loft has another desk and chair for remote work, plus yoga mats and stretching bands.

Guest access
Guests have access to the entire house, driveway, and backyard during their stay. The backyard is shared with my 2 neighbors who are very rarely in the backyard.

Neighborhood highlights

We are in the middle of a gastronomic smorgasbord, in every direction within walking distance you can find great food, coffee, and other treats. There is a liquor store across the street, and several marijuana dispensaries in the neighborhood. There are beautiful rose gardens in Ladd's Addition, and we are close to the Willamette River, where you can hop on the Springwater Trail, which goes down to a wetland wildlife refuge. Or you can walk north along the river on the Eastbank Esplanade. If you're visiting during the weekend, be sure to check out Portland's Saturday Market via a pleasant walk over the Tilikum or Hawthorne bridges to the west side.

For guests, I always: provide a clean, safe, convenient stay.
I've just resumed hosting in Summer 2024 after taking a much needed break to repair and rejuvenate my place, The Clay House. My partner Joshua has put a lot of love and elbow grease into modernizing the necessary features of our classic home, which was originally built in 1891. We love hosting on Airbnb because it allows us to share our unique place with guests who appreciate creativity and convenience. We also love to travel as much as possible!
