Happiness House - sunny family home

House - Entire home/apt · Sicily Street, Morro Bay, CA 93442, United States

This is our lovely home that we make available to families looking for a place to get away. We have worked to make our home comfortable and open for guests. Six guests can sleep comfortably, but with a little creativity, 8-10 will work.

The Space

Welcome to our home! Summer has aptly named it "Happiness House" because, of all the homes we have owned, this is by far the most relaxing and enjoyable location. Morro Bay is the quintessential fishing and surfing village where the locals are happy and the guests are welcomed. This isn't the beach resort with the crowded beaches, but rather a wonderful get-away from the hustle and bustle of life. Whether you are taking a 1/4 mile stroll to the beach or enjoying a glass of wine on our rooftop deck, your blood pressure will dip to levels not seen since your youth.

This offering is for our entire home. Please only consider this only if you can treat it with the same respect you would your own. We make a mess from time to time, but we work to keep our place nice for ourselves and our guests. One of the reasons we love Airbnb is that the community seems to view the exchange as an opportunity to share the good things we have with one another.

We live in beautiful Morro Bay, gateway to the picturesque highway 1. Step onto the balcony and enjoy the ocean or have breakfast up on the rooftop deck with a full ocean and rock view.

We are a great home base for those wanting a relaxing and rejuvenating break from the busyness of city life or for those driving historic scenic Highway 1. We are a short drive from Hearst Castle, Big Sur, spectacular Montana De Oro, the happiest city in the U.S--San Luis Obispo, and the sands of Pismo Beach (maybe you can find Bugs Bunny). Most think our area is only for surfing and walking the beach, but there are amazing cycling rides, challenging rock climbing sites, and lots of hiking trails with ethereal destinations with tidepools of multi-colored starfish and sea anemones.

For those of you who are foodies and wine connoisseurs, the drive from our home through some of the most beautiful wine country is phenomenal. You can go wine tasting or even visit one of the newer microbreweries in the area. One group used our home for three couples to go wine tasting and take a harbor wine cruise in the evening. You might consider getting one of the limousine companies to chauffeur you with all the rich wine you will want to taste. We might even be willing to offer that service at a lower rate.

Some will simply want to stay home and enjoy the huge bed ;-), our large balcony and rooftop deck, or just enjoy the Morro Bay Embarcadero. The suite alone is 437 square feet of living space, but since much of the California lifestyle is based on enjoying the outside, add in the rooftop deck of 200 and the balcony of 120 square feet and you have over 750 square feet of liveable space just in the master upstairs with two more bedrooms, living room, bathroom and kitchen downstairs. If you would like, we can blow up the air mattress for you or your kids to sleep under the stars on the roof. The rooftop is also a great space for entertaining. There is nothing like ending your wine tasting excursions by sharing a couple bottles with your friends.

Private bathroom, TV (Netflix, but no cable) and sitting room with futon for extra guest(s). Short drive to Cambria, Montana De Oro, San Luis Obispo, Hearst Castle, or stay here in town! We love to share our life here. Short walk to the beach or the bus stop. For more pictures of Morro Bay and surrounding areas visit Happiness House on that social media site everyone likes.

We have three bedrooms--the master with a California king that everyone raves about, two downstairs with a queen in one and two twins in the other. Outside the master bedroom is a futon in the upstairs den that makes into a full size bed. All beds and the futon have fairly new mattresses that are very comfortable. You can also always take the air mattress up on the rooftop deck to sleep under the stars. We have a small house with all kinds of outdoor living spaces that make it amazing.

While our bathrooms are small, the upstairs is big enough for a jacuzzi tub for relaxing at the end of your day. The little ones love to turn on the jets with some bubble bath to make Santa Claus bubble beards. The downstairs is also a full bath that is a little smaller. Though small, you will always find it clean and comfortable. We all work very hard to take what we have and make it beautiful and tidy for our guests.

We are a small family who will work together to make your stay a pleasure. Faith-Marie cares for the chickens who provide the eggs, Summer (mom) makes our house a home, and Troy continues to do home improvement so your escape will get better on each return visit. Your stay helps fund our ongoing projects. Our other daughter, Gracie, just returned from a 6 month exchange in France so is able to welcome our French speaking guests. Gracie also helps Summer with the cleaning to get part of the cleaning fee for a return trip to France.

Since we have chickens who faithfully lay 4-5 eggs daily, you can enjoy the freshest eggs you can possibly eat each morning. Hard boil them, fry 'em up, or scramble them with bacon for egg burritos. However you choose to make them, they are delicious, free-range, organic eggs from well-loved pets.

Remember, this is our family's home. We want to continue to be gracious and inviting, so we only want guests who are going to treat our house as we would. So far, we have found the Airbnb folks are the right type of people! What we notice about most Airbnb guests is that they value being a part of the sharing community. When we visit other Airbnb hosts, we find that we get a great deal, stay in interesting places, and meet genuine people. This is what we hope to offer those who come to Morro Bay.

Guest Access

By renting the whole home, you get use of the kitchen, refrigerator, and all bedrooms. There are three bedrooms that sleep two in each, two full bathrooms, and an upstairs den with a double futon for extra guests. We also have a great rooftop deck for lounging, sleeping, or having breakfast or evening wine. It has views of the Pacific and the hills to the east. The only space that is off-limits is our garage. Ask in advance and we can make bikes and boogie boards available to your family.

Interaction with Guests

We are usually gone when guests stay in the whole house. We will make arrangements in advance for getting keys to you. We only ask that you do basic cleaning and care for our home as you would your own. We love sharing our space and want to be able to do so for many years to come. If we are in town during your stay, we may see one another, but if not, enjoy your stay and take in all the culture of our lovely village by the sea.

The Neighborhood

Our neighborhood is walking distance from the beach with a great view of the Pacific. We live on the east side of Highway 1, but still enjoy the beauty without the howling wind or sand of being right on the beach. We are exactly halfway between San Francisco and LA for those making that journey.

Getting around

We do have a city bus, but most guests either walk or drive the 2 miles into town.

Other Things to Note

We also offer just our upstairs so if you don't act early, usually the entire house is not available. If you are planning a family vacation, you need to book well in advance because, especially in the summer, our upstairs is taken. Also, don't forget that Morro Bay is wear the sun spends the winter. The best months for a long weekend of warm weather is September through December. Sometimes even New Years is warm.

  • We had a great weekend at the Happiness House. The location was perfect and the house was great. We especially loved the roof top patio and the chickens in the back yard!

  • My friends and I had a blast staying at Troy's place! The pictures make it look lovely, but in real life, its even better! The living room was cozy and the kitchen offered a lot of space to cook and enjoy each other's company. There were three beds downstairs, a very comfy couch, a futon, and a huge bed upstairs! We loved all the sticky notes that were left, the complimentary coffee, tea, and eggs from their backyard! Our favorite part was the crows nest on the roof. It was an awesome place to hangout in the morning and look over Morro Bay. All my friends raved about the place and we will definitely be back soon!

  • I was struck by the pictures in the listing at how beautiful their home is and if anything the pictures did not do it justice. The roof-top provides a gorgeous view of the sky by night and the seashore by day. Everything we could have wanted was immediately accessible including a great bonus in the form of eggs from the resident chickens. The bedrooms were airy and the top floor provide great views. The kitchen was modern and convenient.

My cellphone dies on arrival and Troy was incredible at getting back to me because my instructions for getting in were in an inaccessible text message :-).

The area provided great scenery and things to do. We were able to see what for me were the first wild otters I have ever seen including a mother floating on her back with her baby on her stomach, as well as numerous sea lions assuring everyone within earshot that they owned the place. A trip to Morro rock also did not disappoint and there is a local natural history museum well suited for smaller children (now if we can convince our grandchildren to visit..). Cannot recommend highly enough.

  • Overall, we enjoyed our stay. Morro Bay is a great place and this location worked well for us. We especially enjoyed stargazing (including meteors) on the roof deck.

  • Oh my Goodness - spent Thanksgiving at the Happiness House - it was everything and more than we could have possibly imagined. Seriously did not want to leave - so peaceful and refreshing - simply delightful! Troy and Summer put their heart and soul into every detail of this lovely home. Comfy and cozy and full of inspiration! We hope to return soon and highly recommend this location to others.

Educator. small business owner
We are a family of four who love living in Morro Bay. There is so much to do here and we enjoy it all. Summer and Troy are both educators who have taught in public and private schools. Presently we are branching out on a new venture starting our own tutoring business that focuses on working with young people to develop their strengths to help them successfully navigate school and future life. We believe that all students have strengths that, when developed, can make the learning process much more fruitful. We love the ideas that we are developing in this area, but we have a ways to go to make a living from it. We both enjoy reading, walking, drinking coffee and having lively conversations about important ideas. If you visit our home, you will find plenty of books that might spark some of these conversations. All books are here to be browsed and enjoyed. You will probably have to stay a week to finish many of them--you are welcome to do just that. Daughter Faith-Marie is the keeper of the chickens. They are her pets and egg producers for your hard boiled breakfast eggs. She loves the outdoors and playing on the computer (seem contradictory, but go figure). Gracie is our social butterfly. She presently is in France on a six-month exchange getting immersed in French language and culture. She will return in August (likely with an eternal travel bug). As a family, we love camping in our Eurovan, hanging out around Morro Bay, traveling, and meeting interesting people from around the world. Our family loves to pursue the timeless virtues of hospitality and gratitude. We think this makes us great hosts and visitors.
