Sunny and peaceful Cottage in the heart of everything NEW and AWESOME in the happening Inner Mission neighborhood. This is an ideal launchpad for your San Francisco experience and you'll even enjoy a quiet night's sleep!
We are Gabe and Catherine, a married couple in our early 30's who run a custom wood marquetry map art business and are involved in hosting public gaming community events throughout San Francisco. We own this home, dubbed "The Cottage."
The Cottage is a single-family flat front Italianate Victorian-era house with a white picket fence (seriously!) on an adorable tree-lined street. The house is over 100 years old, full of charm, flooded with light, and features hardwood flooring and high ceilings. We have cats, but they will stay out of your room (and spend most of their time outside). The house has an air filter, and your room is outfitted with an additional air filter. Most people with allergies fare well. Free wifi as well.
Your private bedroom includes a queen bed, fluffy bedding, loads of pillows, a desk, a lounge chair, shelving for your items, a Bose speaker with bluetooth and aux connections for your MP3 player, and various San Francisco books. Your private bathroom is right next door and features soft towels, a full shower/bath, hairdryer, soap, etc. (we have our own bathroom upstairs). In the morning, you can relax with a cup of coffee or tea on our deck, overlooking our zenlike garden that attracts hummingbirds and butterflies most of the year. In the afternoon or evening, you're welcome to use our gas grill to cook up your finds from the Ferry Building.
The Cottage is along the 20th Street Corridor ((URL HIDDEN) and mere steps from many of the best restaurants in the city like Universal Cafe (brunch!!), Flour & Water (put your name on the list then come back for a pre-dinner nap while you wait!) and Central Kitchen (go for the tasting menu!), bars like Trick Dog (cocktailes!!), Southern Pacific (beer garden!!) and Dear Mom, and great coffee shops like Atlas Cafe, Stable and Coffee Bar. Walking distance to ALL the action along Valencia, BART, and many convenient bus lines that take you directly to favorite sightseeing spots like Haight-Ashbury, Golden Gate Park, Chinatown, The Embarcadero, and Powell Station.
We look forward to hosting you!
Guests will are invited to enjoy our internet, books, board games, laundry, garden, deck, and kitchen.
All areas downstairs are accessible. Upstairs is off-limits - our own bedroom and own bathroom are there. It makes for a nice arrangement!
We also provide plenty of towels, shampoo, conditioner, soap, and lotion!
Interaction with guests
We love it when we get to know our guests, even though we rarely have enough time to. And when we make coffee, we make enough for everyone!
Our neighborhood is one of the most up-and-coming in the nation. It has amazing new cafes, restaurants, and bars opening up every week. There are also fun quirky things to do nearby like hipster bowling and minigolf!
15 minute walk to BART, steps to several convenient bus lines, including the 33 which takes you to Haight-Ashbury / Golden Gate Park (another popular area of town!)
Other things to note
(1) We have cats! They stay out of the room, they spend a lot of time outside, and we have some major air filtration in place, so most folks fare just fine. However, if you have serious allergies (or anxieties), we're not the house for you.
(2) We used to operate our business (Woodcut Maps) out of our home, but as of July 2014 the maps are in their own studio in The Bayview. This means our house is quieter than ever!
(3) Please no infants or children. We love them but are unable to host them.
You are welcome to use our kitchen but please remember to clean up afterwards. You'll have a shelf in the refrigerator where you can keep your food.
Our cats are allowed outside, but only through the back door. Please help us keep them from getting out the front door.
No smoking inside the house.
Quiet hours 11pm-7am.
Cancel up to 5 days before your trip and get a full refund, including service fees.
Hi! We're Gabe and Catherine. We run Woodcut Maps (custom wood marquetry map art) and Come Out & Play (a street games festival in NYC and SF). We've worked in games and tech for companies like Gamelab, Electronic Arts, Sifteo, Go Game, and more. We work a lot. But we also play a lot!
We love hosting dinners at our cottage - it's a special place! When we're not home, we tend to seek out live music, participatory arts, theater, urban exploration, and hiking.
We are laid back hosts and love meeting new people - we'll make sure you're 100% comfortable and won't make you hang out with us (unless you want to!).
