The Space

Note: if you make an instant booking, drop me a line to say hi and talk about your schedule with me. Thanks.

Small studio house, artistic and colorful, very centrally located on a quiet side street in East Austin. Full kitchen, WiFi, lots of light, hardwood floors, beautiful art, great vibe. The couch folds out into a sofa bed if you're not staying with someone you're sleeping with. Close to 6th Street, Rainey Street, the Convention Center and the Hike and Bike Trail. Perfect for a romantic weekend getaway in town, events, conferences or family visits. Located about 10-15 minutes from the airport. You can walk to many restaurants and bars and not have a huge Uber/Lyft ride home at the end of the night. If at all possible, I strive to be flexible on arrival and departure time (nothing is worse than having a fun night on the town and having to be out by noon). The space and I are definitely LBGTQA friendly!

Price will be higher during major events.

I've been hosting on Airbnb for four years now, and absolutely love it. I will do my damnedest to equip you with enough information and bug repellent to thoroughly enjoy your stay in ATX. There is coffee and half-and-half available, and beer in the fridge if previous guests were kind enough to leave it.

The fine print:

The bathroom door has a curtain instead of a solid door. For most people, this is no big deal, but if this is something that will make your stay unpleasant, awkward and uncomfortable, please take this into consideration prior to booking. Thanks.

There is no off-street parking, but street parking is never a problem. As with any urban area, it's not a good idea to leave your iPhone on the dashboard, but generally it's pretty darn chill.

There is no TV in the space, but there is wifi available for you to access your music and movies.

The bed is double size. If you were excited about the bondage possibilities of the bed frame, be warned that I've changed it and it's no longer suitable for rope tying. ;)

The City of Austin has asked that short-term rentals register and pay hotel taxes, as well as paying hotel taxes to the State of Texas. (Permit #V(phone number hidden)) This runs 15% of the price. Accordingly, I have decided to split the cost, and will pay half and the guest will pay half. Thank you for understanding.

Interaction with Guests

Interaction with Guests: That totally depends on what you want. I'm happy to leave you completely alone or engage in witty repartee about any number of topics if I'm around. When I'm in town, I usually try to say hi at some point during your stay and make sure you have everything you want/need.

If you're planning a romantic getaway and need help with setting the place up as a den of love, or making restaurant reservations, etc., holler at me and I can put on my concierge hat.

The Neighborhood

78702 is the second-fastest gentrifying zip code in the country. The little pocket I live in (either the East Cesar Chavez or Holly Street neighborhood, depending who you ask) is a mix of folks who have been here for 20+ years, artists, families, etc. I love if for its proximity to lots of stuff, but it's also quiet and chill (except, of course, for the sound of hammers and saws on weekdays as bigger, better homes are being built). While this isn't the city's main entertainment district, you can find decent breakfast tacos and cocktails and iced coffee within walking distance of the house.

Getting Around

15-minute walk to the Convention Center and Rainey Street. 20-minute walk to East Sixth Street. 30-minute walk to Sixth Street and South Congress. There is a bus line, but our public trans is less than stellar. We're about 6-7 blocks away from the Saltillo Metro Station. Lyft and Uber both have strong presences here, and the city is fairly compact. It'll cost you probably $6-8 to get downtown. You can also rent a bike bike right up the street, and sometimes find Car2Go and Zip Car in the neighborhood.

Other Things to Note

The house is old, and is pier and beam construction. It is not hermetically sealed, and the bathtub is original with some of the enamel worn off. If you require hotel-room sterility, you won't find it here.
