About This Listing
Welcome to a cozy and colorful home on the near east side of Madison, Wisconsin. This old house, built in 1925 has character and wild gardens. Private room with full bed, WiFi, many amenities and 3 miles from downtown, on bike path and bus lines.
Housemates include myself, two cats and many plants. You will have access to a comfortable living room, beautiful gardens, and an outside eating area. I have a very small room (about 5 x 8 feet) that can be used if there are 3 people in your party. It has a single bed.
In season you may help yourself to fresh vegetables in the garden. WiFi, a fully equipped kitchen, an acoustic piano, tv, and laundry facilities are available for your convenience. There is a large walk in closet for your use.
Interaction with Guests
I very much enjoy getting to know people, but am often away from home and am busy with various projects. I am considerate of not imposing on people's time but friendly and look forward to meeting you!
The neighborhood is close to Lake Monona and a block away from Olbrich Gardens and Starkweather Creek with mostly single houses and a couple small apartment buildings. The neighborhood is very walk-able with several locally owned restaurants including Cupcake Cafe, Glass Nickel Pizza and Sala Thai Food. There is a small gym at the Goodman Center, a 5 minute walk from the house. There is also a full gym at the YWCA about a mile from the house.
Several bus lines stop within a couple blocks provide a quick ride to downtown and University locations. I have an old bike that you are welcome to use and Madison's bike share program is a 3 minutes walk and the bike path runs along Emmet Street and downtown is a 20 minute ride.
Other Things to Note
There is a train track near my house. I'm finding out exact schedule of the train so light sleeping guests will know if the train horn will be disruptive to their sleep. I've only had one guest out of 30 comment on the train.
I try not to use toxic chemicals in my house. I have a few ants in the summer - not very many if I keep my kitchen clean.
Note that I don't have air conditioning. my house has good cross ventilation and fans tend to cool the house well.
I prefer guests to remove their shoes although I'm flexible on this account if it causes any hardship. I try to respect natural resources by recycling and composting. I ask that guests shut off electricity when not in use and be thoughtful about water use.
Beth's home is lovely and inviting. We enjoyed her artwork, garden, and friendly cats, and were quite comfortable in our room. It was nice to have kitchen access and some refrigerator space, as we visited the amazing Dane County Farmer's Market during our visit. Olbrich Gardens is right around the corner from Beth's, and the Capitol City Trail goes right past the house. Unfortunately we did not get to meet Beth, as she was out of town, but she had a friendly house-sitter who made us feel welcome.
Beth is a wonderful, welcoming host. She made me feel so at home and was happy to talk or leave me to my own devices. Her cozy home is bright and filled with plants, art, and two sweet (email hidden)e bed is comfortable and the room is spacious with her beautiful art on the walls. She lent me a bicycle for the weekend, which is perfect as her house is right on the bicycle path that leads all through Madison. I easily rode to my weekend workshops at the Goodman community center. We rode to the amazing Madison Farmer's Market on Saturday morning. She is also within easy walking or bicycling of many great restaurants. It was a wonderful weekend, Beth, thank you!
Beth's home was a perfect match for me. It is a very quiet and beautiful place to stay. The bed is super comfy. There is amazing art everywhere. I used the kitchen to warm up some quick meals and found it very easy to use and welcoming. I just felt very much at home. When I return to Madison I will try to stay here again. One thing that should be mentioned perhaps is that there are fairly steep stairs leading to the front door and the bedroom is upstairs. I had no problem with this but it might be a problem for some. Thank you Beth for making this a great stay for me.
