Welcome to a cozy and colorful home on the near east side of Madison, Wisconsin. This old house, built in 1925 has character and wild gardens. Private room with full bed, WiFi, many amenities and 3 miles from downtown, on bike path and bus lines.
Housemates include myself, two cats and many plants. You will have access to a comfortable living room, beautiful gardens, and an outside eating area. I have a very small room (about 5 x 8 feet) that can be used if there are 3 people in your party. It has a single bed.
In season you may help yourself to fresh vegetables in the garden. WiFi, a fully equipped kitchen, an acoustic piano, tv, and laundry facilities are available for your convenience. There is a large walk in closet for your use.
Interaction with Guests
I very much enjoy getting to know people, but am often away from home and am busy with various projects. I am considerate of not imposing on people's time but friendly and look forward to meeting you!
The neighborhood is close to Lake Monona and a block away from Olbrich Gardens and Starkweather Creek with mostly single houses and a couple small apartment buildings. The neighborhood is very walk-able with several locally owned restaurants including Cupcake Cafe, Glass Nickel Pizza and Sala Thai Food. There is a small gym at the Goodman Center, a 5 minute walk from the house. There is also a full gym at the YWCA about a mile from the house.
Several bus lines stop within a couple blocks provide a quick ride to downtown and University locations. I have an old bike that you are welcome to use and Madison's bike share program is a 3 minutes walk and the bike path runs along Emmet Street and downtown is a 20 minute ride.
Other Things to Note
There is a train track near my house. I'm finding out exact schedule of the train so light sleeping guests will know if the train horn will be disruptive to their sleep. I've only had one guest out of 30 comment on the train.
I prefer guests to remove their shoes although I'm flexible on this account if it causes any hardship. I try to respect natural resources by recycling and composting. I ask that guests shut off electricity when not in use and be thoughtful about water use.
Our stay at Beth's home was very comfortable. She accepted our request to stay even though it was very last minute which we were grateful for. We only spent one night at the house and were out for most of the day but Beth was very helpful and kind!
Beth was at the house when I arrived, and made me feel at home right away in her friendly way. I was in Madison to spend as much time with my son (he was a 5 minute walk from Beth's place), so I used the house mostly as a place of rest at night - and how restful it was each night in the very comfortable bed!
The house was lovely, with a three season porch that looks out across the road to the Capital Bikeway path. Lots of fun places within walking distance -- the lovely eateries and cafes on Willy Street and the fantastic Olbrich Botanical Garden just a stone's throw away. If you love walking or biking, it's the perfect location.
I did spend an hour or so one morning in the living room (coffee in the cupboard), and I enjoyed the company of her two cats. Beth's and my schedules ended up not meshing during my stay, so our only face-to-face was when I checked in. We kept in contact through notes we left each other on the kitchen table. She was prompt and informative in communications with me via email prior to the trip.
Two thumbs up!
Beth did an amazing job of making me feel welcomed at her gorgeous house. It was walking distance from great art shops, restaurants, and parks. I highly recommend this area if you are looking for a relaxing and creative atmosphere.
We had a fantastic stay at Gaia House. In fact, it was so nice we wished we were staying another night. Beth is a wonderful and accommodating hostess. She went above and beyond to make sure we were comfortable and had a great stay. Her fun house, beautiful art and cute cats were an added bonus :) I would highly recommend Gaia House for your next Madison trip.
My sister and I had a wonderful experience staying with Beth. We were only there for one night, but she shared food for breakfast and was very accommodating, opening her house to us. We will definitely stay with her if we ever find ourselves in Madison again.
Beth has a warm and welcoming home! This bright and beautiful spot is filled with inspiring art and natural objects. Beth was very accommodating when I arrive later than expected and was very attentive to any needs I would have. Also, she's an excellent cook!
Wonderful!! The room is cosy, very clean & well decorated (very comfortable bed too!) The neighbourhood is quiet, residential and very close to cafes, public transport, etc.
Beth is so welcoming, very helpful, easy going & she is such a warm person. She gives the guest space & along with that she is always happy to have interesting conversations.
I felt completely at home at Beth's home. Highly recommended!!
I'm an artist and work at Overture Center a large art center in Madison. I administrate community and education art programs. I enjoy making art, gardening, reading. My recent art exhibit was about the many aspects of Gaia.
