The Space

A great place to stay on your I-20 travels, just 5 miles north of Ruston, and for anyone who is visiting Louisiana Tech University. A bridge that you can drive or walk over leads to a 900 sq. ft. 4 room cabin six ft. above ground with porch and deck overlooking Cypress Creek. Nestled in the woods, it includes one king bedroom and a 9 x 13 artist studio available with art table. Large living, dining and kitchen area. Bathroom includes a large antique porcelain soaking tub with a laundry area on one end. Cabin completely furnished with antique furniture, Chambers gas stove, microwave and everything for cooking. Large windows in every room. A retreat place meant for lovers, artists, musicians, and writers with no tv, telephone or internet. Bring a book or enjoy our nice selection. Also a wide variety of CD's are available, and an electric piano for those musically inclined. A great place for nature lovers. We are five miles from the Super One grocery store, Crescent City Coffeehouse, and our library. Six miles from downtown Ruston with fabulous boutique shopping, including a bicycle shop. We do provide a small selection of food for your breakfast. Special requests are accepted.

  • What a fantastic getaway! My daughter and I spent an entire week at Shelby's adorable cabin and will definitely be back! Throughout our phone/ online conversations, Shelby was incredibly friendly and helpful... We stayed too busy to actually meet her, but there's always next time!

  • This was a sweet spot. Tired of the loud hotels, my boyfriend and I were looking for a non traditional lodging experience. We got lost here. A trip to the grocery store and simply enjoyed the surroundings. Attention to detail in the cabin. Wonderful cd collection. Good vibes. We would definitely stay again!

  • Shelby's cabin and art studio provide the perfect mix of solitude and comfort in a secluded but not too detached setting. The music collection, the changing scenes from window to window, the kitchen that begs you to cook (fully stocked with pots, pans, etc. and some minimal condiments), the giant clawfoot bathtub in a cozy, relaxing bathroom, and the other tiny details makes this cabin a wonderful place for private reflection.

There's a large porch, complete with a rocking chair and a view of the trees, creek, and neighboring horses.

What can I say? The cabin on Rockshop Rd. will rejuvenate and heal what ails ya. Don't think twice about this place.

The washer and dryer are a nice amenity.

Thank you for keeping this cabin in such great shape for us, Shelby! It was a pleasure to meet you finally.

  • Shelby is such a kind lady. We really enjoyed the artistically decorated cabin. Would do again......

  • We stayed at the Cypress Creek cabin for the entire month of November while renovating property in nearby West Monroe. It was the perfect place to come and relax after putting in a long work day on the project. As Thanksgiving approached we were a little nervous about cooking our meal on the vintage Chambers stove, but Shelby assured us that it was in good working order. We ended up baking two pies and roasting several Cornish hens in the oven and all came out perfect. It was a memorable Thanksgiving.

The cabin is exactly as described. Its a great place to get away, listen to the awesome CD collection, read a book or just sit on the porch and watch the horses accross the road.

We would definitely stay there again.

  • Shelby's cabin was exactly as described, and located in a scenic and wooded area north of Ruston. The place was clean, quiet, and comfortable, and had everything I needed to work and relax. It was close to Louisiana Tech and easy to find. Thanks Shelby for a wonderful stay!

  • My wife & I were looking for a quiet place to unplug and getaway for the weekend. I couldn't have found a better spot. The cabin is an amazing place full of charm and very peaceful. Shelby is an excellent host and has an awesome cd collection :) Thanks for sharing your place with us. We hope to make it back soon!

  • I chose to stay at Shelby's cabin because the pictures presented what appeared to be a great place to get some R and R and get some writing done and that is exactly what I got...It was and is a beautiful cabin. You can tell how much love has been poured into making it just right. From the stove and bath tub, to the minutia (like the cd player stocked with great variety of tunes and the healthy helping of candles to set the mood) this place makes you feel like you've just arrived home. There's a great big porch with chairs and a perfect view of the trees and nature (there's a road about 50 yards away, but it doesn't take away from the ambiance).

The cabin is close enough to services (a grocery store not far) to feel connected, but crafted in a way that gives the feeling of wilderness...except that inside you have ALL the comforts of home! The king size bed is super comfy. As an added plus, if you like state parks there are several in the area (a little bit of a drive eta 30 min to Claiborne Park). I kayaked on lake Claiborne and watched the sunset on the (email hidden)elby's cabin is a wonderful home base to tour the area, or a wonderful retreat to escape busy life.

  • Shelby's cottage is beautiful. It immediately felt like home (and that's a quality you don't find easily). It may be the perfect place to write, to think and to escape from the hectic world. Shelby had even left a selection of foods for my arrival - such a sweet touch. The cottage is small but has everything you could need and the peaceful surroundings are stunning.
This may become my go-to getaway place. Thank you Shelby.

  • We had an amazing 4 day stay at Shelby's lovely cabin! It's tucked away in the beautiful wood side, but close enough to grab groceries whenever needed. The cabin was so relaxing with great music and books to get lost in for hours . Everything was so well organized and well equipped it truly felt like home away from home the moment we stepped in. Also love the no shoes policy! Would definitely stay here again if we ever find ourselves back in Louisiana.
