This was our first Airbnb experience, and we were most pleasantly surprised! The atmosphere surpassed any hotel, our room were nicer than pictured, and location in Cusco could not be better (short walk to everything). Maison Fortaleza is laid out like a hacienda, around a central courtyard; the family lives in their private wing, and guests stay in a separate wing with 9 hotel-like rooms. The beautifully-appointed guest rooms are very private with a lovely view of Cusco city. Breakfast is delicious and often comes with local fruits that you won't find elsewhere. We were fortunate to stay here when Itala (the owner) was in town. Itala is a retired tour guide, and she is most knowledgeable about Peruvian history and geography. She was an invaluable resource and really helped us make the most of our trip. We would most definitely stay here again!

Amazing place to stay. Right in the heart of town, beautiful view, and a wonderfully decorated courtyard. Itala made us a wonderful breakfast as well. Cannot recommend highly enough!

We absolutely loved this place and would recommend that anyone stay here. Itala is so nice, accommodating and friendly. She goes above and beyond to make your stay comfortable. The breakfast every morning is also superb and was something we looked forward to daily. The room is very comfortable with a cozy bed and down comforter. There is a heater in the room that goes on in the evening that keeps the room comfortably warm. The shower is also fantastic. It's hot the whole time and the water pressure is even better than my shower at home. The location is just a short walk from the center of town. The dogs can be a little loud at night but I think this is normal for cusco. If you're a light sleeper i would recommend downloading a ambient noise app on your phone (we listened to crickets) or bring some ear plugs.

TL;DR--stay here. 1st) The room is comfy and has a nice view into the hills. 2nd) The place is clean and has nice lounging areas to hang out, plan, read, chat, etc in. 3rd) Itala. Thank God for Itala! Incredibly kind, helpful, and interesting woman. It'd be a crime not to mention how helpful she was in helping us recover our lost bags from the airport. It was a treat exchanging stories and ideas with her. Next time we're in Cusco, we'll be back :)

My name is Itala, I'm a peruvian, originally from Cusco and I've been working as a tour guide for 25 years. With my swiss husband Jean we make a multicultural couple and we have 2 children.
We love to welcome our friends in our house so our Airbnb guests will be treated like friends and we also like them to feel at home. We can also advise them about what to do in the Cusco region (arts, archeology, restaurants, music, local market). We speak spanish, french and english...
