Itala's place is located in the quieter part of town - which is great because we got to sleep through the night- but it is also within walking distance to the Plaza de Armas and Saksaywaman. Her house is comfortable and welcoming. Itala was very helpful and available during our stay. She shared her knowledge as a local Cusconian and answered my end-less questions on Peruvian culture! She also helped us book a last-minute tour to the Planetarium and arranged a local taxi to the airport on our departure. I would definitely recommend staying at Itala's house when in Cusco.

Maison Fortaleza is a gem. My husband and I stayed there for five days and we loved every minute of the trip. The breakfast was delicious with lots of options (coffee, juice, breads, avocado, fruits, yogurts, cereals, etc.); the guesthouse was clean, safe, and spacious; the shower was warm with great water pressure; and the internet worked well throughout our stay. Furthermore, the location is superb. It is one block from San Blas (bohemian area of the city with great food and shops), just up the hill from the Plaza Nazarenas (good cafes, restaurants, and shops), a ten-minute walk from the Plaza de Armas, and about ten minutes from Saksaywaman (awesome ruins at the top of the city). The place is quite cozy as well, with a fireplace in the sitting room, a library for guests, and a lovely patio if you want to take in some sun. Perhaps most impactful to our stay is the fact that Itala is truly one of the most beautiful individuals we have had the pleasure of meeting. She was generous with her time and advice, and she sat down and got to know us throughout the course of our stay. She is an experienced guide, so she had loads of useful advice about Machu Picchu, Cusco, the Sacred Valley, etc. She's also fluent in a ton of languages. There were two minor downfalls to the stay. First, we believed that there was a washer/dryer based on the listing, so we planned on doing two weeks of laundry in Cusco. It turned out that there was no washer/dryer for guests, so we had to take our clothes to a lavandería and pay for the service. Second, Cusco is full of stray dogs that love to bark at night. Every now and then they would wake us. Itala kindly provided us with earplugs, though, so this wasn't so much of an issue after the first night. We would encourage anyone to stay at Maisón Fortaleza (in fact, in our post-Cusco travels, we have done just that!). It's an awesome base from which to explore Cusco and to relax in your downtime.

Loved staying at this guesthouse. The hosts were abroad, but Gilda was there and was very sweet and attentive and made an amazing breakfast. Showers were always hot and rooms were cozy and spacious.

This was the perfect spot to come back to after our four day hike in the Andes. The room was clean and quiet, but most importantly had a hot shower! I was so thankful to be away from the noise of the city, but we were still only a five minute walk from the main square. Itala went above and beyond for us and even held our luggage for us during our hike. Such a lovely and welcoming lady! I highly recommend staying here.

Clean, quiet, conviently located. Really nice place with great bed, shower, nice healthy breakfast, etc. Best it was the host, Itala, who went way beyond to be helpful. Super nice lady who really knows Cuzco & Machu Pichu & how to maximize your visit. Thank you again for all your help.

Very nice eight-room guesthouse up the hill from the main square. Very nice family proprietors. Modern bathrooms, appropriate furnishings, and comfortable beds and rooms. The only potential issue is street noise in the neighborhood but that is subjective.

Response from Jean & Itala:
Thanks for your review. I'm very sorry for the street noise, it is not often.

My name is Itala, I'm a peruvian, originally from Cusco and I've been working as a tour guide for 25 years. With my swiss husband Jean we make a multicultural couple and we have 2 children.
We love to welcome our friends in our house so our Airbnb guests will be treated like friends and we also like them to feel at home. We can also advise them about what to do in the Cusco region (arts, archeology, restaurants, music, local market). We speak spanish, french and english...
