House is located in safe industrial neighborhood and we include two Monterey Bay Aquarium Passes!
This is located in a safe INDUSTRIAL/residential area in Monterey. It's eclectic. Our property is clean, well kept, charming and private. The Cottage is cozy, approx. 800sq. feet inside. In front there is a front porch bordered with a grape vine covered arbor. We have outdoor furniture and a barbecue surrounded by a nice garden which is great for bird watching, sipping wine or tea, reading or barbecuing. Our neighborhood is INDUSTRIAL mixture of Industrial and homes/apartments. Right off highway One and conveniently close to all the Monterey Peninsula has to offer. Within walking distance to the prestigious Naval Postgraduate School and to Del Monte Beach.
The Cottage is non smoking house. There are two bedrooms on the garden side, and a new remodeled room on the Zen Garden side of the house that features a nice queen bed, that is comfy and private. All bedrooms have comfortable beds & fresh, clean quality linens with flat screen televisions that feature a variety of premium channels, (HBO, other premium channels, SPORTS & Network & local stations), and in one room is a ROKU on the t.v. where you can log onto your Netflix and Amazon Prime accounts .
The cozy living room features hard wood floors, gas fire place, and we have a blue tooth, speaker/karaoke player that can pair or hook up to your devices. There is also an ihome in the zen garden for music (blue tooth/or manual hookup).
There is an indoor and out door shower.
The SMALL but beautiful bathroom (tub and shower with all amenities) was recently remodeled in slate with a nice new tub. There is a large dressing mirror with amenities in the adjacent room as well. BEDS: 2 comfortable new beds (a full and a queen) with one new over sized day bed (twin) in another room. Sleeps five.
Full kitchen stocked with just about everything you need to prep a meal & cook. Propane BBQ on deck. There is coffee & espresso maker, (coffee, tea & sugar/sweeteners, many spices & olive oil, coffee, with some condiments available). There's a toaster, coffee/espresso maker, Fiesta ware plates, most everything you need to cook with, a blender and large microwave.
Washer, Dryer, Iron and we provide beach towels, blanket, yoga mat. There is a Roku -with Angry Birds and other games, speaker/karaoke system to pair with your devices.
Zen Spa is private. There is a fountain, fire pit, candles, incense, outdoor refrigerator (we leave you water and some beverages), in ground Japanese soaking tub. It can range in temperature from 105-107 degrees. It's hot! There is a private out door shower (warm or cold water) and fluffy white towels. It is a nice place to lay in the sun weather permitting.
AQUARIUM PASSES - there are two passes for our guests to use while staying with us. With these passes you use of the member's entrance, discounts in the store, early admission on many select summer days and the opportunity to attend special member's only events like Jazz by the Bay at night with wine and food served (no-host).
We can accommodate special requests for an additional charge: massages (from trained massage therapists), private yoga sessions, & hikes.
Pets are welcome per HOST'S APPROVAL, and deposit. They should not be left alone and the guest has to pick up after them.
Close but separate from, the cottage is our business C&C Repair. During the day you may hear the sound of an occasional truck or the sounds of commerce, however, I do NOT hear highway traffic or distracting noises very often.
We are very well located on the Peninsula: By car its:
2 minutes from the Airport.
about 8 minutes to Laguna Seca/Mazda Raceway.
8 minutes to Pebble Beach & Carmel (all depending on traffic, of course).
Walking distance to beach, Monterey Recreation trail, Fairgrounds, Monterey Fish House (same block), and the beach! Again, this IS an industrial neighborhood for the most part. People have asked if there's noise. It's quieter than staying at a high rise in San Francisco!
Cabs are easy to come by most times of year. Bike trail one and 1/2 blocks away (Bikes can be rented locally).
The bike trail will take you to all the most scenic areas on foot or bike, i.e. Cannery Row, Aquarium, Pacific Grove, downtown Monterey. You'll want to drive to Big Sur, probably even Pacific Grove, Pebble Beach and Carmel. Again, these are all minutes away.
Cottage, Zen Spa area (as described above)reserved for our guests only, outdoor shower, 2 designated parking spots.
We are readily available and responsive but allow maximum privacy and are available as needed. David and I know the entire Monterey Peninsula and Big Sur well and are happy to assist guests as a concierge would and posses a wealth of knowledge and tips if guests have questions about the area.
We usually leave you alone! Monday through Friday, David works right next door and is easily accessible. I will greet guests upon arrival or provide a lock box code for self-check in.
I wrote an honest and transparent description of our place so please read the property description well because both hosts and guests alike depend on good reviews. David and I want to create a great experience for you.
There is a lock box on front door. We will advise you in advance what the assigned three digit code is. IMPORTANT: When placing the keys back into the box, Press "P" on the keypad first, then the three digit number to lock them securely inside.
There is a 2 car driveway. The cottage is on a corner, end of Encino. The front door faces Del Monte. Since it's a Gatsby era cottage there was never a garage but we built on an additional room off the kitchen adjacent to the Zen Garden. Our guests have the cottage, a well stocked kitchen (blender, espresso maker, coffee, toaster, stove, oven, BBQ, etc...), fireplace inside, outdoor and indoor shower, Japanese soaking tub (only for you), nice bath tub in bathroom, a lovely garden with birds butterflies, flowers, grapevine arbor and roses during the blooming season. Nice deck in front to relax with a book or glass of wine and BB!Q. There's a fenced yard and driveway.
Interaction with Guests
We leave you alone but are around to lend advice about what to do around the Monterey Peninsula and are readily available to address your questions.
It's eclectic! When we say it's a safe industrial, we mean there are apartments, houses, a rug cleaning business and a nice automotive garage (that we own) close by. There's also the beach within walking distance (you cannot see it from the cottage because it's over a hill), we have an AMAZING restaurant on our block as well. Walking distance to the Monterey Fairgrounds and close as heck to the airport and Mazda Raceway!
I love our space because it's like a private oasis in the middle of industry. At night it's peaceful and the Zen garden tall thick walls provide privacy and a pretty good sound barrier.
Bus stops are close by and run on the hour. A taxi drive to most of our neighboring cities/attractions will cost $10.00 or less.
Other Things to Note
Two great referrals I like to share with our guests:
Massages and Hiking!
Internet access: Cottage Network/password: in manual.
David and I are happy to refer two amazing massage therapists who can provide a variety of massage treatments using essential oils. You can have single or couples massage and they do it at the cottage or in Zen Garden. Couples massage, romance package couples massage , "Mini" massages, 15-30 minutes each, with a minimum of 3 persons (for woman's escapes or retreats). In addition they offer private, personalized Yoga, fitness sessions as well as Yoga/massage combos, and 1/2 day yoga/hike excursions that connect you with some of the natural landscape & beauty of our area. Jody is also available to prepare and deliver amazing vegetarian organic meals. Read our reviews on Airbnb to see how wonderful they are. You would have to contact them direct as David and I only offer the referral. Gina (phone number hidden)) or Jody (phone number hidden))- book early if you can.
Hiking – Ventana Wildnerness Hikes – A friend of ours, Stephen Copeland's family donated thousands of acres to the Big Sur Land Trust and he is the only licensed independent hike guide in the Big Sur area. He works with Ventana Lodge and Highland's Inn on the Big Sur Coast in conducting private or group hikes (recently we led a big (website hidden) group on a retreat staying at the Ventana Lodge). Stephen has allowed us to give his phone number to our guests should you want to book one of his magical hikes. Upon request, Stephen or one of his hike guides can arrange a private or group hike to places that most people are not allowed to venture to or even know about!
Stephen Copeland (phone number hidden).
What's included with your stay: Pebble Beach is a fun drive – 17 mile drive takes you around all the splendors of the Pebble Beach coastline and Forest. You may use our Resident Pass, just follow the rules as outlined in the house manual.
There will be two Monterey Bay Aqarium Passes for you to use while you are our guests. This will allow entrance through the members gate as well as discounts in the gift store.
The above referrals are independent of us or Airbnb. All arrangements have to be made through them. We are only providing the referral!
PLEASE BOOK ONLY if you and your guests have read the entire listing and it sounds like the right fit! Take good care of our place. We love it and so will you. Clean up after yourself but relax and enjoy! Your housekeeper Gladis, will have the place clean and ready for your arrival and will clean sheets, towels, floors, and the rest upon your checkout. It's nice if you're able to wash up your dishes and leave the house almost as you found it. Leave the deep cleaning to us.
First of all, enjoy your stay and let us know of any special accommodations you may need to make your stay for enjoyable.
IT IS IMPERATIVE GUESTS READ AND ACCEPT RULES particularly with regard to the SPA AREA as there is water and open fire pit. We particularly want children to be safe in this area and never left unattended. On sunny days it is sometimes difficult to see the fire in the open, raised fireplace so use caution around that area. The spa area is tiled and can be slippery and of course any water source is a concern when children are occupying the space. The filter next to the stairs can create a suction if you sit directly next to it and may kick off the jets. It is a Japanese hot soak with jets, but it is not the typical hot tub that creates a lot of noise or bubbles (more Zen).
Sadly, the Monterey Peninsula is experiencing a severe drought. We ask that guests be conservative with water as much as possible.
The housekeeping fee is for Gladis, your housekeeper to clean the space really well, Microwave, oven refrigerator, change out and wash all linens, etc… I don't expect the housekeeper to clean up my dirty dishes or garbage laying around when I stay somewhere and I hope my guests will be mindful of that as well, (David and I even tidy up hotel rooms).
Please keep property in good condition as we have left it like that for you.
Not suitable for loud or large parties.
The cleaning fee does not include having to do guest's dishes or pick up extra messes (a very dirty stove top, oven, extra spills or grime,in refrigerator or in/around other surfaces), please do not leave garbage laying about.
Guests are responsible for any/all damage to property in or outside the property.Loss of any passes we loan will be subject to a replacement fee.
Turn off heater, space heaters, lights, fireplace, BBQ, propane heaters after use. Clean out clothes dryer
We want you to be comfortable in our space. If you were to have a bad spill on something, we do have cleaning supplies and old towels at your disposal. If it's a difficult stain (red wine), just call us as soon as you can and we'll take care of it. We know mistakes happen.
Please do not use white towels for cleaning.
Laundry facilities there for you to use.
WATER CONSERVATION - in Monterey we are on water conservation. We ask you to be mindful of this.
Please NO *SMOKING inside or Zen Spa. *If you like, you may smoke with door closed in the garden. Please clean up butts.
Please keep gates closed.
Turn off heaters and fireplace when not in use and when you leave.
A landscaper comes in occasionally (yard only) to do maintenance. His name is Peter.
Pets, if approved by owner, must be with guests at all times. Please clean up after your pet. We have provided bags for this. There is a dog daycare very close to our house.
Finally, we are available and responsive to your needs! Please tell us what you require to make your visit enjoyable and comfortable.
