If you want to feel you are not just visiting New York, but you're really inhabiting the city, then you can't do better than Nanci's apartment. Surrounded by fascinating bric a brac, from burlesque posters to vintage shot glasses, this is obviously a well loved and well lived-in apartment. If you're looking for a spotless, antiseptic contemporary loft, this isn't for you. But from the car horns and shouted conversations from the street below, the faint yapping of a small dog in a nearby apartment and the smell of cooking wafting in through the open window, this is authentic Upper West Side living. It will accentuate your experience of Manhattan, in a way the cookie cutter rooms of a Hilton Garden Inn simply can't. Yes there are a lot of stairs and the block's communal parts are a little careworn, but I would be back in a heartbeat. Thanks Nanci.
Great from the start to the end! Nanci is very helpful to organize the arrival. The flat is very nice and well located. Ideal for a first contact with NYC.
The apartment was as described. Location is great. Owners took care of any issue raised promptly. Recommended.
We decided to stay here after reading ute & ulf's review and it didn't disappoint. Yes, the 4 flights of stairs can be exhausting at the end of the day and then you have the loft bed but the apartment is in such a great location that those 2 factors pale in comparison. We were out all day and most of the evening so to collapse at the end of an evening in a toasty haven was great. It is extremely safe and there are great cafés surrounding home base and also a brilliant laundry next to the levein bakery which made you feel like you're living a New York life. Marty & Nanci were always available to answer any questions and were wonderful to deal with, nothing was ever a chore for them. A great place for a New York experience.
Great location and exactly as described in listing. Thanks Nanci and Marty!
What a fabulous discovery! Location perfect! Facilities great! Decor eclectic! Hosts couldn't be more welcoming and helpful. We had a fabulous stay, seeing the Thanksgiving Parade from the end of the road. Walking to and from the city taking in new neighborhoods on the way. Plenty of places to eat, lots of variety! Would really like to return! Thank you Nanci and Marty
The location of this apartment is fantastic! It's in the Upper West Side, which contrary to some reviews, is full of restaurants, shops and places to visit. The subway station is right across the road so it's extremely convenient. You can get the 1,2 and 3 lines plus the station is often the first stop on the express line from downtown which is really handy.
The apartment is at the top floor so be prepared for a little cardio workout everyday! It is very spacious, with a comfortable bathroom, wardrobe space, lounge room (with cable TV) and loft bed. There is also a computer to use which is very handy.
The only issue we had was with the heating in the apartment. For some reason, we couldn't change the temperature of the in built apartment heater so it was extremely hot everyday in the apartment despite us leaving the window open. It might be an issue that's been fixed since our stay though.
Overall, would highly recommend this place!
The studio is very well located, next to the famous Levain Bakery,
2 min from the 72nd subway station and 2 blocks from Central Park.
Is is in a quite street, and the neighbourhood is really nice. There is all you need.
We had a very good time in New York.
Thank you Nanci and Marty.
We had a lovely stay with at Marty and Nanci's place. Their apartment is in a fantastic location of Manhattan. It's smack in the center of Upper West Side and on the same block as the famous and delectable Levain Bakery. It's only one block from the subway and buses and a short walk to Central Park. The apartment was perfect: great charm, bright and airy, probably best shower/water pressure in Manhattan. Marty and Nanci are absolutely wonderful hosts too. We had a 4 hour delay from JFK and they worked with us the entire time to make sure we got in safely to their place. They were extremely helpful throughout our stay too, pointing out the local dry cleaners and delis and was even so kind as to mail some shirts I had forgotten after we left. I can't say enough about their hospitality, generosity and kindness. You're in great hands if you stay at their place. Highly recommended.
