This place is so relaxing. Staff on hand to assist but everything is so relaxing you don't really need anything. Located in a quaint little village which I loved. Can't fault this at all, and the gardens were to die for!

We spent a month in Villa Gunung. The staff are amazing, making us breakfast every morning and giving the place a tidy. Made supplied us with a local phone to get us going and helped us with transport and general information. The local people live right near so we got to know them and they are exceptional! The pool and location are just what we needed and it was always great to meet new guests at the other villas as they passed through. I couldn't recommend this place highly enough. We will definitely be back.

My wife and I stayed with our 2 1/2 year old daughter for one month. Made is an excellent host and attended promptly to all of our needs and requests. The staff at Matahari are all wonderful and we were made to feel very welcome. Breakfasts, cleaning and laundering were all spot on. The views are indeed astonishing - mountain ranges, the volcano (if you are lucky), ducks, chickens, rice workers, sunrise in the east and sunset in the west. The villa is basic but well maintained and cared for. We had everything we needed. The thatched roof is stunning. The outdoor bathrooms are really nice - especially the showers. The gardens are lovely. Beds are large and comfortable. The villa depends on natural airflow for cooling. You will be at one with the elements. We went to bed not long after dusk and woke early. Local roosters woke us up most mornings. The pool is great for kids, with a large toddler section that our little girl loved. I’m a swimmer and I managed to get some laps in. The locals are very friendly and inclusive. We though it was lovely bumping into the staff on the street after they had finished work. We also got to witness the rice workers in the dry season, harvesting and maintaining the fields. The drive to Ubud centre is usually around 10m. Made's driver Komang was a fantastic guide and helped us to get settled in to Bali. He took us on some great day trips as well as helping us get to restaurants and grocery stores and back. There is a good organic market near by and we shopped there every Saturday morning. It’s a good idea to rent a scooter, but only if you’re up for a little adventure. Traffic can be oppresive at times and scooters can get around most congestion. If you’re not feeling up for going out or for cooking, all the local restaurants know the villa and ordering and delivery was easy. We came to Bali looking to experience the local culture and and to soak up the tropics. The villa was an excellent place to start our adventure and I would recommend for other travellers wanting to dive in to Bali.

Great location, quiet (except the local animals), beautiful views over the rice fields. Small, basic but comfortable (very good mattress). Pool smaller than expected and squeezed between two other villas. Quite far from Ubud centre. Fast access to some very nice restaurants if you have car or moped. Breakfast was very good and flexible between 8 and 10am but one day we had booked a pick up at 8am and breakfast was cooked at 7:30. Late check out very handy because this was our last stop on a round trip and our flight left at 0:35 am.

Our stay at the villa was great! The view of the rice paddy fields and mountains were amazing and the perfect place to have breakfast in the morning. The villa was secluded and quiet, however a short drive into central Ubud. The villa was very open and sometimes unwanted critters would get in but netting over the bed and bug spray are provided. Laundry service was fast and breakfast was delicious! Overall, we really enjoyed our stay here and would defiantly stay again.
