The neighborhood is really nice and quiet, streets lined with many beautiful historic properties.

The space
The Mustard Seed Room was once the winter kitchen of this circa 1865 Historic House. There is yet the beautiful pantry, now walk in closet. With a private bath on the other side of the bed it boasts a claw foot tub, vanity and washer & dryer.

The first floor has 4 main sitting rooms, kitchen and solarium. There is a music room with a piano and front parlor with a pump organ. All new kitchen appliances, gas range, dishwasher and a sit at counter for breakfast or discussing the days events.

We are a ''shoes off at the door'' house. It is peaceful and we look for the same in tenants. We have hosted professors from SU, medical staff on short internships and med students on rotation.

The neighborhood has a number of restaurants, a pub like atmosphere at Rileys 7 blocks away. Attilo's Italian restaurant around the corner on James St. Thanos Greek market and deli is down the street, and Lacy's a Tapas restaurant also located one block down.

You can walk to a small grocery around the block. A local brewery and wine shop will be opening in the 100 block of Green this year.

The Hawley-Green historic district is near the university and medical centers. The medical shuttle comes 3 blocks from the house. It is a unique neighborhood of 1820's- 1880's structures when this area housed the movers and shakers of Syracuse, Congressman, Mayor's Judges and prominent businessmen.

The Russell-Farrenkopf House welcomes guests for overnight, weekend, and extended stays in a smoke-free and pet-free environment. Rates are per room and
include utilities, Wi-Fi, and laundry facilities. The house has a total of four bedrooms that are individually rented, three baths, a fully-equipped kitchen, living room, dining room, parlor with enclosed solarium, and a private porch.

Located in the historic Hawley-Green neighborhood, the Russell- Farrenkopf house is 2 blocks from Route 81 and 690 and walking distance to downtown, Armory Square, Syracuse University, SUNY-Upstate, hospitals, the Carrier Dome, and cultural centers along the Connective Corridor. Fantastic restaurants and services can also be found right in Hawley-Green (ask your host for recommendations).

Built in 1865 for a prominent Syracuse building contractor and his family to overlook the Erie Canal and nascent city of Syracuse, the grand styles of the Victorian era--French Second Empire and Italianate are exemplified in this design, characteristic of Horatio Nelson White, architect for many landmark structures in New York and San Francisco. Over the years as the city grew, the house saw the best of times turn. By 1975 it had become an abandoned tenement with many of its treasured features obscured by the grime of neglect and indifference. It might even have been razed had it not been for the uncompromising passion of Joan Farrenkopf, who took the restoration of this great house to heart. The Hawley-Green Historic District is now developed as the city's downtown place to live.

The neighborhood is really nice and quiet. In particular, the street is lined with many beautiful historic properties. There is a "Syracuse University Students ONLY" bus that picks up on the block, stopping directly at the main campus bus stop, Campus Place. Total commute time on the bus is about 20 minutes. I often walk (30 -- 35 min.) or bike ride (15 min.) as well when the weather is nice. There is ample on-street parking and I never have trouble finding a spot. Close to awesome restaurants, bars, coffee shop, hair salons, day spas, highways, and downtown.

Hi I am an artist and subtle energy therapist. My husband and I are sailors. We enjoy nature and the water. I am devoted to historic restoration. It started in Syracuse's Hawley-Green Historic District. The Russell-Farrenkopf House was restored and now hosts Airbnb! The beautiful victorians are an inspiration! Al land surveyed on the island of St.John for many years and knows it well. He works on wooden boats. We have lived in a boat, treehouse and called a tent on a platform home. We love life and enjoy great people.
