A bright and exceptionally high studio with two huge windows from ceiling to floor located in the heart of Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea. 5 min from Tube. Ideal for couples with one child or three friends. Extra-guest can be accommodated for a night or two.
The high ceiling makes your thoughts and imagination go beyond the typical limit we expect. You can here the echo of your voice when it is silent. This is old style Victorian building. And lovely sounds of the church next door will make all that difference.
There is one double, one single bed and additional single mattress that is possible to pull out in case there are four of you. It is a good solution for children or for an additional person joining for a night or two. There are kitchen amenities, which include: fridge, microwave, kettle, toast and small cooker. There is a small bathroom with a shower and toilet.
I am quite accessible if I am not travelling. Feel free to ask any question you like!
Besides the very good transport links there are so many places that you can go just by walk as there are many pubs and restaurants within minutes.
V&A Museum, Royal Albert Hall, Science Museum and Natural History Museum are within 10-15min walking distance towards South Kensington Station.
If you like skating one of the best rings in the City just 10 min walk away!
As you get off the station you shall see a big Waitrose supermarket offering high quality food if you'd like to grab a quick bite for home or forgot to pack something. For more unique grocery shopping experience you can walk to High Street Kensington (15 min) and explore the fabulous Whole Foods Market - a real treat for you and your loved ones if you fancy to grab some goodies to take back.
The local church next door offers great recitals ( some free) and yoga classes (£10 drop-in). And you can hear its lovely sounds from the apartment. It adds special feel to the place.
The location benefits from great transport links. It is both very close (5 min) to the Tube station and to many places (to walk) that you might have planned to visit!
If you arrive via Heathrow Airport you do not need taxis during tube hours as Piccadilly line stops right at Gloucester Road Station. It is close enough to walk even with luggage on wheels!
It was a pleasure staying in London at GeonCa's apartment. I could not have been more pleased with the location or the incredible assistance she provided to insure that our stay was a memorable one. I highly recommend staying in GeonCa's apartment if you are staying in London. Thank you so much.
Liana was a wonderful host as she was extremely responsive, thoughtful, and flexible. The location was awesome as it is near the tube, restaurants, and attractions like Hyde Park, the Natural History Museum, and the V&A.
Lets talk pros and cons:
On the up-side, the location of this place is fantastic, just down the street from the Natural History Museum, close to Hyde Park, close to the tube etc etc. In addition, Liana is truly a great host, super responsive on the setup and while we were in the apartment. She is great.
On the down-side - this is a very small place, it is in an old building, and both the apartment and the building could use some work. On the building side, the door to the building is open. It opens to a busy street, and it is open all night long. The result? A quite lost, probably quite drunk, complete stranger knocking insistently on our door at 3 in the morning, because he was confused about where he was. He was quite polite and apologetic when I answered the door, but when we let him know we were all full, he proceeded to knock on the other three doors that open in the same area...
Other bits - I would go with 3 people on this place, no more, unless you plan on spending very little time here. It is all one room (and not that big) with the kitchen, shower, and bathroom being little closets linked to the main room. The toilet / shower closet needs the most updating - the toilet wobbles on the floor, the floor is in need of repair, and the shower is super super small and a bit funky.
Bottom line for our family - this turned out to be a bit small, a bit funky, and, because of the open door to the building, not as safe or quite as we would like, but all the issues we had could be fixed pretty easily, and Liana was a great person to work with.
Thank you for the review Joshua. Please note that our location is super-safe for London! We have never had issues with safety. I leave the door open sometimes. And I warn the guests that their door is the only security from the street. I recall mentioning this to your wife and friend when they checked in. Apologies for the incident but such surprised happen even in 5 star hotels once in a moonlight and I think you were unfortunate. As to locking the main door to the building, it has a lock! But for some reasons it is not being used and I cannot insist as it should be a matter of consensus among residents. I am considering putting extra door on the floor now, so there would be double protection for the flat but not for the entire building! If this is very important for potential guests they should ask me for an update. I think some guests have high expectations of space comparing to their homes and this is not the first review that Josh points out a small toilet. This is London and sometimes we get small space compared to other cities. The room is not small and ceiling is super-high. The toilet floor is scheduled to be re-done. It is not critical maintenance as hygiene of the bathroom is in perfect shape . Hence it would be done when the flat is empty and I can get reasonable rates for the work.
My girlfriend and I stayed there in early November. The location is the apartment's greatest asset: 2 mins from Gloucester Road tube station (Piccadilly, District and Circle lines). Hyde Park is a short walk away. The neighborhood is super safe with many restaurants, cafes and stores nearby.
As described by the host and other guests, the apartment is a studio located on the first floor (access via stairs) of a Victorian building. It has a small kitchenette (equipped with sink, fridge, stove and microwave) and bathroom. Great for a short stay. It's very clean and the bed is big enough for two people. The large windows facing the street let a lot of daylight in.
If you are a tall person, the bathroom size may be an issue: you may have trouble getting in and out of the shower and the door may touch your knees while you're using the toilet :)
The common areas of the building, on the other hand, could use some love. A fresh coat of paint and new carpets in the staircase would go a long way. But of course, this is beyond the host's responsibilities.
Liana was very welcoming and helpful at all times. She checked in often to make sure everything was going well and accommodated all of our requests with a smile. Thanks!
Liana has been a very very nice host who really wanted me and my boys to have a nice stay in London. The appartment was very clean and indeed very well located. I recommend this appartment!
We stayed at the apartment for three days in October 2013. Liana is an excellent host and she was extremely flexible in terms of check-in and we felt really welcomed.
The location of the apartment is top of the line, only a couple of minutes off from Gloucester Road tube station. Everything was clean and tidy and there were some basic supplies in the fridge which we appreciated.
Main drawback of the apartment is that is quite small. But in London this is something you have to accept from time to time.
Liana is very good host she has very prompt response for guests in any enquiry. The flat is clean, it is a bit too small if you don't mind the small living space, especially the bathroom. However, this flat has everything you need like when you are at home and the most important thing, location is perfect!
My boyfriend and I stayed at Liana's studio for three nights in London. Great location, as it is close to the Gloucester stop on the Picadilly Line. There was also a Barclays Bike Hire right outside the door which is a really nice option. The flat itself is clean, albeit smaller than we expected but it was plenty of room for us. Definitely a good alternative to all the expensive hotels in the area. Liana was very accomodating, even though we were delayed at the airport she was able to change her plans just to wait for us to get to the flat. Really appreciated that. She also checked in on us and made sure we were adjusting well. Thanks Liana! We enjoyed our stay at your place and we definitely enjoyed London. =)
The Victorian Studio @ Kensington's location was fantastic! This was our first time in London so it was nice to be in a central location close to the metro. You literally only need to walk one block to get to restaurants, bars, shops, and museums. There is a public bike rental rack (Barcaly Bikes) conveniently located across the street, great way to get around own. The host, Liana was very sweet and accommodating. During the trip I was feeling a bit sick Liana was such a sweet heart that she provided some buck wheat to help my recovery along. The studio itself was smaller than we expected because we are 3 big guys 6’-2” and over but it was cozy. During the stay we had an issue with an appliance and Liana immediately remedied the issue the very next day and not only fix the problem but made the beds and tidied up the room for us. Thank you for your hospitality Liana, you are welcome in my home in San Francisco anytime.
Liana was a wonderful host- after my previous accommodation fell though, i had to find accommodation at short notice. This was the first time I had used airbnb and within 30 mins of submitting a request, I had a reply from Liana to all the needs I had requested. I was competing in a triathlon so had sporting equipment and on top of that I had my 4 year old daughter. Liana was extremely accommodating and was very easily accessible on phone and through the messaging service.
On arrival in London, we arranged to meet. Although the front entry of the building is old, the room itself was extremely clean (Liana had also taken extra care as she was concerned about my young child). The room had everything that I needed and Liana also provided some items for the fridge which was a lovely surprise. She also provided extra cooking pans. She made everything available to me based on my needs. The room was surprisingly quiet for such a central location.
A pre-arranged time was organised for check out- unfortunately with the event I was competing in, the officials locked all athletes in the transition area so we could not leave the venue. Liana was so helpful to myself and my family with my late departure- she was even kind enough to supply a small gift for my daughter.
I would recommend Liana and this room to friends travelling to London who are after a clean room in a central location. Thank you.
