Interaction with Guests
As your hosts, we want you to have a wonderful stay while visiting this retreat setting.
We live below the rental space. We cherish the tranquility of the property and our own privacy as much as we respect those same needs for our guest's ultimate benefit. That said, we are happy to assist you with requests and we are here to help in any way we can. Otherwise, we will not be seen or heard unless you want to see or speak with us.
The house is located in a very quiet, residential area at the end of a private road. The house itself is perched on the edge of a canyon and borders wilderness area. Most of the homeowners are retired and many are only here part-time. There are many wild critters in the area including deer, fox, bobcat, mountain lion, coyote, skunk, wild boar as well as (a few venomous and) many harmless reptiles. We have abundant bird life in the area and are fortunate enough to have a bird's eye view of a Redtail Hawk's nest used every year by a mated pair of hawks. We cherish and respect all of the inhabitants of the area... human, and especially furred, feathered and scaled. Please tread lightly on their land.
There is no public transportation in our neighborhood. Free, safe parking is available on the street next to the driveway. There is taxi service (expensive) and an Airport Shuttle service available. We will provide you with their website for costs and schedules.
Other Things to Note
Cell phone reception at the house and in the neighborhood is unreliable and often unavailable. You are provided with a phone that accepts incoming calls and allows you to make local calls.
We are animal lovers and have four cats and two small, well behaved dogs. You are welcome to enjoy them outdoors or ignore them. If you are also an animal lover, we ask that you help us continue to keep your space free from pet fur and dander by keeping our pets outside and making sure to keep screens and doors closed... We would not want to have your vacation dampened by their potentially unwanted behavior towards your belongings. If you do interact with our pets, we also request that you do not give them food as they are all on special diets.
No more than two guests on the premises (unless special arrangements have been made prior to making reservations)... Please meet up with friends elsewhere.
By booking the guest studio, you agree to read the house manual provided in the space, which includes guidelines, instructions and more upon your arrival.
No cigarette or cigar smoking indoors or anywhere on the property.
No pets, please. We have plenty for you to enjoy!
This is a very quiet residential area. Please be respectful of and courteous to our neighbors with regard to noise, driving speed and parking.
Sorry, no children under the age of 12... We live on the edge of a canyon and there are no guard rails.
When cooking in the kitchen of the studio, we ask that you refrain from cooking fish.
No RV parking.
Much of California is enduring severe water shortages. We ask that you PLEASE be mindful and conservative in your water usage.
Our WiFi is not strong enough for streaming, downloading/watching movies on your computer or using video conferencing. It is fine for checking email. This is a great place to unplug!
Contact us prior to making reservations if you have special needs, concerns or feel it necessary to negotiate any terms or prices. Prices may fluctuate depending on season and local events.
What an incredible first time Airbnb experience! Jill and Kevin went above and beyond to make our stay enjoyable. The Hawks Perch Haven was clean, cozy, and welcoming with a gorgeous view! There was a lovely gift basket waiting for us upon our arrival with delicious goodies including some wine!
Kevin and Jill also recommended some wonderful restaurants and beautiful places for my girlfriend and I to explore during our stay. We really didn't want to leave!! I would definitely recommend this place to any couple looking for a relaxing getaway. I'm sure someday we will come back for another visit!
Our stay at HawksPerch was excellent, the care and effort our hosts put into creating a superior experience was evident by the meticulous detail of the room appointments and information guides.
We used the apartment as a launch pad for exploring Big Sur as well as Carmel and it was a perfect. HawksPerch was the quietest night sleep we have had in years. As a result we opted for leisurely mornings to watch the birds, have breakfast and enjoy the view. Even with late starts the location allowed us to beat the park crowds on a holiday weekend.
Kevin and Jill were extremely helpful helping us navigate our first Airbnb experience, we hope to return to HawksPerch to explore the area more. Highly recommended for a quiet and relaxing holiday.
Lill and Kevin were really great and very helpfull hosts. The Place was really quiet and very well equiped. The welcone basket was really nice and we really liked the good food. We really recommend this wonderful place.
Our stay at HawksPerch was exceptional. From the thorough information and instructions provided to the well-equipped kitchen and delightful details that made us feel welcome, HawksPerch provided the perfect setting for a relaxing and memorable honeymoon. We felt at home immediately, and any questions that came up were answered quickly and thoroughly. The studio is clean, private, scenic and comfortable. We wanted for nothing! We will definitely stay at HawksPerch again in the future and recommend it very highly. It is hard to imagine a more wonderful retreat than this!
Kevin and Jill made us feel incredibly welcome at the HawksPerch. They are gracious, attentive hosts and truly care about making your stay the best it can be. The apartment is very nicely done - high quality and aesthetically pleasing- stocked well for cooking, and just perfect for two. The surrounding canyon and redwood grove was a huge draw for us and this spot was truly a haven for rest, rejuvenation and relaxation. We were thrilled with our time and plan to return.
The photos are totally accurate. The unit is comfortable, very clean, and well equipped. The nearby private canyon trail is scenic and handy.
Both Kevin and Jill went out of their way to be welcoming and helpful.
Kevin and Jill's studio was, indeed, the perfect little haven! First, our two hosts were about as kind, welcoming, and accommodating as you could ever want. The warm reception we got (including a most lovely gift basket), and the extent of the preparations they have made for their guests made us so glad they were our hosts! Second, their property and the adjacent areas are GORGEOUS! Stunning canyon and ocean views from the studio, access to an amazing private 5-mile hike (or shorter stroll) which ends in a beautiful redwood grove, easy access to Point Lobos State Park, Big Sur, Carmel, Monterey, Pacific Grove and so on...it was simply a great place to stay. Choose HawksPerch Haven, you'll love it!

I was one of three girls with the name of Kevin in my high school graduating class.
I feel blessed to live with my partner of eleven years on this sacred piece of land at the edge of wilderness overlooking a canyon and the ocean. My wife Jill & I write and create various expressions of art while care taking the property, our menagerie of pets and other creatures that also call our property home.
We love sharing our blessings with like-minded people who appreciate and can benefit from “fillin' up” their souls with the many gifts this property offers.
