Mayfield Studio is a stylish, spacious self-contained apartment set in beautiful rural surroundings but only two hours from London, one hour from Birmingham and Bristol.
'3 for 2 nights' weekdays throughout January & February
The Studio has slate floors with underfloor heating throughout. The living area is double height with a large 'L'shaped sofa with TV & DVD and a dining table and chairs. Many guests use the Studio as a bolt-hole and quiet place to work or study. The double bedroom is on the mezzanine floor & there is an Ercol day-bed that can accommodate another person. There is room for a travel cot. The bathroom is slate lined with a walk-in shower. There is a small kitchen (kettle, hob, fridge, toaster) to prepare breakfasts and light meals. I am happy for a nice dog to stay as well. There is safe storage for bikes and a hose for washing them down.
The Studio is self-contained with great views from the wrap-around window on the mezzanine. Guests can have access to my garden and outside table and chairs if required and can park safely in my courtyard. Excellent pubs, cafes & restaurants are all in walking distance.
Interaction with Guests
Complimentary bottle of wine and local beer in the fridge. There will be fruit and biscuits and tea and fresh coffee in the kitchen. A choice of breakfast foods are provided so that guests can remain completely private & eat breakfast whenever they like. Cereal, juice, muesli, bread and milk are always available, as well as a full english or a vegetarian option to cook as required. I supply organic, fair-trade and locally sourced food wherever possible.
Painswick is a beautiful Cotswold stone village dating back to the 1100's. There are fantastic walks from the village including the Cotswold Way. Nearby towns are Stroud, Gloucester and Cheltenham all offering places to eat, farmer's markets, many Arts festivals and racing at Cheltenham. Bristol and Bath are a 45 minute drive away.
There are frequent local buses to the towns above and trains from Stroud are 90 minutes to London. I can arrange local cabs for journeys to and from stations or pubs and restaurants.
Other Things to Note
There is Wi-Fi. Books, magazines, dvd's, board games, local maps and guide books are provided also a high-chair, wet-weather gear and wellies if required.
Absolutely fantastic stay, it was exactly what we were after and couldn't have been improved! Sara was fantastic, just the right balance of making us feel completely welcome, but also allowing us to just chill out and relax in private. The studio is ideal, for a weekend away from it all. We had both had really busy months prior to the stay, and the studio was just brilliant. You can so easily explore and there seems to be lots to do but equally you can just relax in front of the tv like we did. All in all a brilliant weekend, and touches like a bottle of wine to enjoy really just make the stay! Thank you
We had a lovely stay at Mayfield studio, it was the perfect base for our weekend trip. I found it more spacious than it looked on the photos, very comfortable and modern. Sara was very welcoming and helpful (even lending us one of her pans when we needed something bigger to prepare our dinner), and the food provided for breakfast was fantastic. The bottle of wine and beer provided were a really nice touch too. We stayed here with a 3 month old baby and it wasn't a problem. We would definitely stay here again.
We had the pleasure of staying at Mayfield Studio for a long weekend to celebrate both my husband's and my birthdays. It was the perfect boltholt - stylishly designed, meticulously maintained and Sara was chirpy, personable and helpful, with lots of thoughtful touches throughout the studio.
A real gem of a find - we would certainly recommend to others!
Absolutely amazing place in the centre of Painswick. Sara was so welcoming and helpful. Her attention to detail was just perfect, from the breakfast to even a cookie filled biscuit tin.
Already planning my next visit :)
We had a perfect weekend at Sara's place. It all started with very fast response from her to our short notice request to stay. Sara then have us directions and greeted us when we arrived. Extremely welcoming and very friendly. Her advice and local recommendations were spot on too. Sara also stocked up the kitchen with local produce to make breakfast, selection of cereals, fruit, chocolate, teas and coffee - really really nice touch.
The studio itself was stunning - very spacious, great interiors, located in painswick which is probably one of the most picturesque British villages I've ever been to.
A great place for a relaxing weekend, for walks, good food (Stroud farmer's market and Sara's restaurant/pub recommendations), for being inspired to paint... You name it.
Thanks Sara for a great weekend xx
A really nice place to stay, beautifully decorated, spacious and bright. Sara took great care of us and supplied delicious local, fresh and organic produces for breakfast. A lot of attention to details. We had a lovely time around Painswick with our 2month old baby and our dog. Thank you Sara.
We had 2 fabulous nights in the studio and were longing for a third. This is the perfect base for exploring this part of the Cotswolds, including some great pubs. Sara provides all the recommendations you need to have a great time. I'm definitely planning on returning.
I have always worked in the design world, in corporate identity, for Conran Design Group and freelance styling for magazines. I went back to college in 1999 and re-trained as Garden Designer which I continue to do. I have recently completed a Foundation course in Fine Art. I have lived in Painswick for ten years in four different houses. I like to draw & paint, grow fruit and vegetables, make things, up-cycle furniture, cook, walk with my dog and practice Iyengar yoga. I love travelling & in the past year I have spent time in Barcelona, Amsterdam & one month in Old Rajpur in the foothills of the Himalayas. I live with my two large sons when they are home from University.
