Great ocean road beach house

House - Entire home/apt · Barnett Place, Jan Juc, VIC 3228, Australia

The Space

Spacious and tidy 3 bedroom house 5 minutes walk to Jan Juc surf beach. The house is fully furnished complete with deck and barbecue. The 2 rooms include a double bed, bedside table, chest of drawers, and clothing hanging rack. The couch in the living room also folds out into a comfy double bed. There is a third room which could be used for additional guests. I have an air bed but you would need to provide extra bedding. 6 guests can be easily accommodated. I provide tea, coffee, sugar, fresh linen, and fresh towels.
The house is surrounded by native garden and is in a very quiet area. It's a 5 min walk to the local cafe and 15 min walk to Torquay town centre. Public transport is available with buses and the V line train service to Melbourne taking 80 mins allowing for the best of both worlds to be enjoyed!!
This is a beautiful part of Australia right at the start of the incredible Great Ocean road with world class surf beaches, bush walking, vineyards, and incredible scenery right on your doorstep!! I can provide information on local sights and things to do if required.
Note; When booking i do ask you specify the number of guests staying. The house is in a quiet family neighbourhood and I don't allow extra guests and/or parties.

  • Andy's place is fantastic to stay in for a Jan Juc break. The house was really clean and everything we needed was provided. Andy met us when we got there and has been great to communicate with before and after. The house is a short walk to the beach and shops and the birds in the surrounding trees were beautiful to wake up to. Totally recommend it.

  • Andy was very easy to deal with and replied quickly to all our questions. We were also able to rent the place for one night. The accommodation is very simple with a nice deck and BBQ. But the real winner is how close it is to Jan Juc Beach:)

  • Andy was very friendly and welcoming. His house was comfortable and well located - only a very short walk to the beach. It was sparse in decoration but perfect for what we needed for the weekend stay.

  • Andy's house is tidy, clean and it's very comfortable and relaxable sleeping on the couch. We spent a very pleasant and wonderful night here.

  • At the very last minute, we decided we would stay overnight after a friend's housewarming in Torquay. Andy's house came up and he very graciously agreed to have us use it for just one night. He was very quick to respond, very friendly and helpful with our questions! There is no bed in the 3rd bedroom but you can use the blow up mattress or the sofa bed.
Check with andy what you need to bring with you in the way of tea/coffee/milk and toiletries.

  • Nice beach house, spacious and clean, and close to Jan Juc beach.
Andy was a good host and waited for us despite our late arrival.
A good stop on the great ocean road.

  • The pictures and location made it all look too good to be true.

The place is well located to beach and walks along the beach front. However we had a number of issues:

    1) There wasn't any wireless internet available - despite this being advertised as as being available. The host clarified that this is only available when he is present and as we rented the entire house it wasn't provided. Suggest this be clearly advertised as such.

    2) We have 2 young kids and the place is not fit for kids - loose wires in living room, large tv not wall mounted, low to the ground and easily accessible by kids, dirty bathroom cupboards easily accessible by kids - kid height, unlocked and were extremely dirty and hadn't been cleaned at all for a long time (dirt was thick and sticky).

    3) Food was left in the fridge some of which had expired and also un-labelled food stuffs. Host failed to mention some of this was his food which he requested us to not throw out. Our son has severe food allergies and we had to throw out a lot of food on arrival as we couldn't risk having an incident. These were not just condiments.

    4) The aircon unit hasn't been fitted correctly with water dripping internally when the aircon is put on. The water dripped onto our suitcase under the aircon - we subsequently had to put a large pot under the aircon to avoid water damage which no doubt we would have had to pay for. Host failed to mention this or suggest a solution. With young kids walking around having water dripping from the aircon was not ideal.

The communication with the host wasn't pleasant and as he was away on holiday was unable to assist or suggest alternatives, albeit he was contactable.

    Response from Andy:

Lance was my first negative hosting experience. He damaged my property and became obnoxious when I brought it up with him which i feel has escalated to this false and exaggerated review. Much of what he has mentioned in his review is simply not true.
I have 13 reviews on my page at this stage with 12 describing my house as “very clean” and “tidy”. They also refer to me as being friendly with great communication, except Lance.
I’ve hosted many gracious and happy guests and enjoy being able to meet people from different backgrounds and share my home and local area. I’m very disappointed to have had a bad experience with Lance as I try to provide the best experience I can for people. I guess you can't please everyone !!

  • We had a great stay at Andy's house... It was a good size and very clean to stay in. The bed was comfy and it was a good waking distance to the local shops and restaurants. It was also a decent walking/riding distance into Torquay. Overall The house was in a quiet and convenient spot and was very clean and comfortable.

  • Andy's house was perfectly located very close to the beach (5-10 min walking). Jan Juc is one of most reliable surf beaches on GOR with high swell consistency. There's almost always something to surf if you dont feel like searching out other options... The main advantage is the outside deck with a great BBQ. The house itself is basic, good, clean and has comfortable (and tidy) beds. Did not get to meet Andy himself, but the arrangement was great and Andy easy to communicate with.
